I think we will have flashback to Ifield killing in the next episode.

Not least because Ifield-actor is too big a name not to feature more heavily than he has done up until now.

buggerthebotox · 24/04/2017 13:58

No links to previous series be buggered! SPOILER ALERT for those who haven't seen previous series.

Haven't seen the new trailer yet, but I'm told Steve's ex Sam features, as does Violent Crime boss Hargreaves. Hargreaves is my bet for the "H" character named by Dot. He despises AC12 and was very "in" with Dodgy Dryden in S2. He tried to suppress evidence relating to the ambush, suppressed info relating to the paedo shot by Waldron, and knew Steve was onto him. Nicola Rogerson, who apparently also features, was his Sergeant.

Sam was Steve's gf and a Sergeant in Murder Squad. I believe she stopped the investigation into Oliver Stevens-Lloyd's death. Oliver was onto the abuse in the children's home. Sam dumped Steve when he was banged up as "The Caddy"; could this be because she felt compromised by his role in AC 12?.

I also noticed that "Lakewell" was one of the names captured on that screen.

I think Jimmy L is heavily involved. He could well be, being a criminal lawyer. I also thought Nick started his working life in criminal law? IMHO everything stems from S1 and Jackie Laverty. Whoever killed her is involved in this. Hilton is involved enough to want Farmer framed as a fall guy. Roz is involved enough to have picked out Farmer. Jimmy and Roz are involved with each other, and Nick is involved with them. Could Nick be some kind of fall guy/go-between himself? A kind of legal Caddy?

I'm told Steve's ex Sam features

yes, that was my 'I told you so' moment!!

WhatABallsUp · 24/04/2017 14:03

I love this thread and have lurked for a long time. I thought of this this morning: how can Huntley put her husband under arrest when she's already got people under arrest for those crimes? Can you do that? Just keep piling 'em up in prison til you decide who did it?
Regarding Hilton actor, he's from Glasgow (or nearby) and I think his English accent is what's making his acting seem not so good to some people. It doesn't sit comfortably with him somehow. Normally he's very good, I think.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 24/04/2017 14:04

It's Stephen Lakewell though - who is he????!!???

ElenaGreco123 · 24/04/2017 14:07

Has the body of Baswinder ever been found or is it in the freezer with Jackie Laverty and bits of Leonie? Surely they could check out who may be vulnerable to blackmail in these cases?

pepperpot99 · 24/04/2017 14:09

My brain is seriously on the verge of self combustion with all these theories and suggestions Grin. I have NEVER been so invested!

I also agree that someone else - the 'gang' - killed Ifield because he was onto them. They though Roz was already dead so left her there and when she regained consciousness she knew she would be blamed for his murder so had to cover it up.

Lakewell: is he part of the ring from last series? he wasn't on Waldron's list IIRC. I'm pretty sure he is at least one of the balaclava men. Did Lakewell sexually abuse Michael farmer? I bet he did. I still think Farmer is doing to die in prison one way or another, sadly. Sad

Jodie- there is something really weird and unpleasant about her grovelling and continual lurking......summat going on there.

Neil: come on Neil, step up. We need you to fight the good fight.

Maneet: I think she'll come good and fess up her Judas activities to Steve and Kate.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 24/04/2017 14:10

Paul Higgins - yes, he is from Wishaw ; really not far from where Martin Compston comes from! They could just have set it all in Scotland!

Maybe it was felt a Scot sounds too trustworthy and they wanted Dunbar to stick out with his trustworthy Celt thing going on...

KRG13 · 24/04/2017 14:14

I'm starting to think Maneet isn't such a loss tbh

From what I can gather she watches cctv. A lot.
In ep 4 she triumphantly hands over a cctv image of balaclava man from 'nearby premises'. Well isn't that pretty basic stuff?!

Same as the spotting of certain number plates etc it seems like the police version of being the first to spot the sea on a day trip out!

Nellooo · 24/04/2017 14:14

LOLZ.

KRG13 · 24/04/2017 14:17

Also she kept Dot's secrets for waaay too long in series 3 before hinting to Steve that someone was putting pressure on her to keep stuff buried

Dodge af

wowfudge · 24/04/2017 14:18

Just a thought - sparked by reading another online thread about LOD: we don't know what Roz's maiden name was, do we? She talks about her family, maybe she means her wider family and not just her kids.

PolaDeVeboise · 24/04/2017 14:18

Well I did not know that - a local boy! He cannot POSSIBLY be a real baddie! :D

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 24/04/2017 14:26

Aaaw my theory smashed with the Mum comment Sad and I think Baswinder's body must have been found otherwise it wouldn't likely have been a murder enquiry to start with?

Two more things, Ifield's missing fingers, is that a link to previous series when Steve's were threatened. Missing fingers, missing hand, spooky.

One thing that's really puzzling me now is that I assumed the car driver who knocked down Hanna was BM, one man, but this morning I've read someone saying that one car knocked her down and BM leapt from another vehicle and abducted her? Can anyone clarify?
Back later.

KRG13 · 24/04/2017 14:32

I've just googled Hargreaves because I couldn't remember his face- of course, Archie from Emmerdale Grin

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 24/04/2017 14:44

"...Also, why did Roz duck out of sleeping with Hilton? She made the big point of it being 'a moral question'. If she were totally calculating she would have done it to keep him on side. She seemed to think she could best him."

Buttery,
Maybe even fearless Roz couldn't face the hideous prospect of combining OilyHilton with her suppurating wound

(There's evidently an anatomy theme this series: Ifield's fingers, Roz's arm...and Hilton probably has RSI of the wrist, being such a complete and utter wanker.) Wink

-I'm hoping methodical Maneet, (guilt-ridden about leaking the info, though through no choice as Hilton threatening her family) shows her usual loyal integrity, is now quietly 'researching'/ fact finding offscreen, comes up with small-but-critical piece of evidence at the eleventh hour, takes it to Ted/ Steve/ Kate, confesses her betrayal-under-duress, saves the day, is forgiven by all.

Can but dream...

-Have fond liking for Farmer's Nana Smile

-Agree with PPs upthread: MN threads enhance the LOD experience.
So many intriguing, complex theories; equal to Jed Mercurio's standard for sure.

SapphireStrange · 24/04/2017 14:48

Pasting this in from the previous thread (didn't realise everyone was over here now) [loser] Grin

Something is way off about Ifield. He appeared to be a dedicated forensic officer who probably wanted to be a detective, but he turned very easily into something much more sinister when he thought Roz was dead. Surely it takes a special kind of mindset to even consider going to get an electric saw to dispose of body
I thought this, but my DP thinks he just panicked. He has a precise and logical mind, meaning he was able to think through disguising himself, buying all the right stuff, etc, but when it came to it he wasn't really a killer –or would have killed Roz only out of desperation and panic.

I think Hastings suspects Maneet, as he should. In fact the others should too - the department's leaking and she goes off unexpectedly early on mat leave? Does he? He came down pretty hard on Jamie and didn't seem interested in exploring other possibilities. Did Maneet just go off on leave early; she hasn't left the team or anything?

Also Maneet kept Dot's secrets for waaay too long in series 3 before hinting to Steve that someone was putting pressure on her to keep stuff buried I'd forgotten about this. I was thinking she was a thoroughly good egg; in the previous series she saved the day, didn't she, by unearthing some crucial evidence? That scene when she came in to work really late to talk to Hastings, with her existing small child/baby.

Was it wrong of me to laugh when Lakewell called Arnott Ironside? That made me snort too. Grin

Roz was seriously delusional/irrational going on about a divorce and how Nick 'letting' them amputate her arm was grievous bodily harm. Is she genuinely delirious through pain/painkillers, or does she realise she's being cornered and has gone right on the offensive?

I'm very sceptical about them dragging Hastings through an investigation/disciplinary on the basis of someone blinking twice, when practically everyone in the place has a name starting with H. Is it just me or is this series slightly jumping the shark?

On another note, hot DAMN Ted looks hawt in his police-issue coat.

DubiousCredentials · 24/04/2017 14:53

Enrique I just rewatched the start of ep1 and it's def the same car that knocks Hana over that she's bundled into. Want to watch the whole episode again but got to get the dcs from school now AngrySad

ovenchips · 24/04/2017 14:55

My (probs cockeyed) theory is that Roz 'I'm doing it all for family' is referring to Jamie (sometime AC-12) who is her secret son she had when v young. She is protecting him by trying to frame someone else for the murders of the young women. Jamie's build and walk most closely resembles Balaclava Man's IMO.

Could Patrick Baladi/ Jimmy Lakewell be the father of secret son and has helped set up Michael Farmer? He may now, after Thandie Newton has started the process, also turn on her husband / his friend (Nick?) to frame him for murders now that Michael Farmer is no longer credible.

I reckon Hilton is crap and disreputable and uses v underhand tactics to keep tabs on things, but not involved in any of the murders.

No inspiration on who killed Ifield though.

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 24/04/2017 14:58

"... Also Maneet kept Dot's secrets for waaay too long in series 3 before hinting to Steve that someone was putting pressure on her to keep stuff buried I'd forgotten about this. Oh! In that case, ignore my theory (am new to Series 4 only). Is highly unlikely Maneet would be saving the day twice running.

Whywaitfortomorrow · 24/04/2017 15:12

Maybe Ifield was involved in original case with Michael Farmer and Jade Hopkirk and evidence was overlooked that time ? Maybe that's why he was trying to out Roz, like he wasn't going to let her get away with it again. The way he said 'sad little wanker' during argument with Roz has been puzzling me.

Did anyone notice Ted calling Maneet 'darlin' when she asked for early mat leave ?

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 24/04/2017 15:16

I did notice the 'darlin' and she didn't flinch.. it was stuck in to prove he does it to everyone, perhaps?

Surely Roz is way too young to be Jamie's mum!!?

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 24/04/2017 15:22

I did notice, but I think that was just paternal and friendly...Roz would've interpreted it as patronising/ dismissive, but, having known Ted longer, I'm pretty sure Maneet wouldn't have taken it as anything other than Ted showing warmth?

Unless, as PPs suggested, he does suspect Maneet as the leak, and wanted to heighten her guilt at betraying close-knit colleagues, before they investigate her further?

Wormulonian · 24/04/2017 15:26

I think Hilton alluded to something else holding back Roz's career in the past (in Episode1) - perhaps she was involved in the Jackie Laverty case and took leave for "family reasons" when things went awry.

CopperRose · 24/04/2017 15:29

Am liking the theory that Jamie is Roz & Jimmy's secret child.

Roz was initially being coerced by that secret, then got in too deep?
