Enrique, Hilton only appears is Series 1 and then disappears (so JM has brought him back for a reason)

In series one, he is juts the same : weasly and interested in 'recriming' and statistics. He falls out with Kate in episode 1 because he tells her to put something on the back burner and when she does and the man lodges a complaint (these are not huge spoilers) he has a go at her for putting it on the back burner. I think this is helpful backplot for what might have been going on with a more nakedly ambitious Roz and Hilton

Gates is a black officer and this is also interesting. it is Hilton who implies he has been promoted and has to be untouchable because Gates is 'from the south'. he says this several times to Ted! I am not sure whether we are supposed to have noticed or care that Roz Is also 'from the south' and a woman, so she meets Hilton's diversity targets. Or whether her race is actually completely incidental as LoD juts scooped up a big star who happens to be black. There is no specific race angle in any of the dialogue about -or towards- Roz. But certainly her gender - and Kate's - are an issue.

Elendon · 24/04/2017 11:12

I think the actor who plays Hilton acts the part really well. Hilton is an arch weasel. He will do anything (like Roz) to get him out of trouble. I bet he has something really insidious on Maneet, which is why she is so troubled.

wowfudge · 24/04/2017 11:15

I think he has suggested to Maneet that if she wants to be taken seriously in her career after time off for maternity leave she needs to demonstrate her loyalty to the ACC as AC12 is on rocky ground and she wouldn't want to be affected by the fall out now would she?

Elendon · 24/04/2017 11:16

Off now. Will catch up later. I think there may well be another thread. This is not the end!

CopperRose · 24/04/2017 11:28

Ifield was going to expose something, that's why he was killed. I think it was pure coincidence Huntley was in his flat when they came for him. Someone professionally cleared up. Huntley was either allowed to go or somehow escaped.

Yes! Yes! Yes! wowfudge.

Roz woke up and had tussle with Ifield (getting wound on arm) but then fled.

Real murderer came & finished Ifield off & cleaned up the scene, leaving Roz's blood spatter as a way to manipulate Roz into doing dirty work (up until that point, Roz genuinely believed that Farmer was the right man but after Ifield murder she was complicit in fitting up farmer).

...although, how did clean up crew/badduns know that blood spatter on unit was Roz's??

Were they already in the house when Ifield got back from buying dismemberment kit, so had seen the Roz evidence?

NoWordForFluffy · 24/04/2017 11:31

I think that as she came round, there was already someone there, about to do Ifield in, which is what saved her.

Her wrist wound was inflicted as Ifield was attacked and she was escaping.

Maybe!

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 24/04/2017 11:32

The difference between series 1 and now - other than budget!- is that we would have been shown nearly all of that happening to Roz in series 1. We knew stuff from the get go about Gates. Shown it rather than guessed /inferred. It has similarities though in that his world of control unravelled around him.

I love Roz and LoD but I think it may be being too enigmatic and silly for its own good...

Whywaitfortomorrow · 24/04/2017 11:35

But Roz has bloodied oversuit, laptop and phone (and fingers ?).

Vango · 24/04/2017 11:36

Roz woke up and had tussle with Ifield (getting wound on arm) but then fled.

But then who chopped off his fingers?

KRG13 · 24/04/2017 11:38

Good theorising there, I think that sounds credible. Roz could be being blackmailed with threats against her family, but is now prepared to throw Nick under the bus because he had her arm cut off Grin

Interesting that the only real show of emotion from her before her arm was her reaction when she realised Tim had emailed AC12 with his suspicions (when she checked his laptop). She sobbed then, that could have been the moment she knew that her children were actually in danger as the secret was out.

Everything since has been cold , steely determination to do whatever is necessary to divert suspicion from the bad guys

CopperRose · 24/04/2017 11:46

But Roz has bloodied oversuit, laptop and phone (and fingers ?).

Hmmm...

Right enough.
Could they have been given to her as part of the blackmail??

I also think there's something in the kids not being Nick & Roz's, but maybe Roz's sister or similar - orphaned perhaps, or removed from their own parents due to drugs/imprisonment (Roz took a career break to take on and look after them).

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 24/04/2017 11:52

KG13, if you are KG13 what have you done with KG 30?????

BlueKarou · 24/04/2017 11:55

Pretty much watched this series all in the last week, having arrived a bit late to the LoD party. Just wanted to ask - am I missing much having not seen the previous series? I hadn't thought so until last night's episode which suddenly started referencing things I figured I might know more about had I watched from the beginning. Am managing to keep up, but curious as to what I've missed.

AliCat36 · 24/04/2017 12:15

Pretty sure Nick asks the kids 'where's Mum?' at one point - at their ages they'really unlikely to call her Mum if she's not.

Ceto · 24/04/2017 12:29

I came across something saying they had got into trouble previously about having a child actor involved in potentially traumatic scenes, which might account for the fact that we aren't seeing Roz's children.

Ceto · 24/04/2017 12:32

When Nick said he was going to shop Roz, I thought she was going to kill him - I'm sure she'd be capable of it, even using only one hand. Getting him arrested is surely dangerous, given that he now has every incentive to tell the police everything he knows. She presumably hopes she will have more credibility than him, but she can't be sure that there isn't something he or the cops know that will prove he's speaking the truth.

hackmum · 24/04/2017 12:34

I agree about Roz not killing Ifield. If she had done, I reckon we'd have seen it in flashback. So possibly the real killer(s), who know that Ifield is on to them and want to get him out of the picture. Roz somehow gets caught up in the crossfire. Not sure where Hanna comes into it, but perhaps Roz just uses Ifield's phone to tell her not to come to do the cleaning job. Though I also wonder whether Hanna was there at some point.

But then again, Roz must have got her injuries somehow and there must be a reason Ifield's fingers were chopped off.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 24/04/2017 12:44

Yes, Ceto - there's a disturbing child in series one : very chilling but they did cop a bit of flak for it.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 24/04/2017 12:47

My eyes and brain can't keep up with that!!

But I see people..... interesting (do want to say I told you so about one of them, but have said it gloatingly on the other thread)

What is Jodie saying??

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 24/04/2017 12:48

Oh oops : you just took it off.

Jodie is saying nothing! Nothing!

the jury will disregard my previous statements

BusterTheBulldog · 24/04/2017 13:00

SAw this theory re Jamie on the guardian comments. Not sure if relevant or not?

KRG13 · 24/04/2017 13:32

ILike I had KRG30 overwritten!

I'm rewatching ep 4 now to refresh my memory and will watch last nights straight after

Arkengarthdale · 24/04/2017 13:47

I love this series but these threads make it even better! I await the thread updates with nearly as much excitement as each episode Grin
