So, I reckon Tommy Hunter isn't dead and the whole thing in S2 was just to make the police think he was, but it was a different person under the blanket.

The overall thing involves some police big cheeses, but Hunter is the man on the ground. Hunter also starts with H of course....

That puts Hargreaves back in the picture as his team were "looking after" Hunter, and might explain why he's suddenly back in the next episode.

CopperRose · 28/04/2017 12:54

I ❤️ the language on these threads, it makes me proper lol.

Goodies, baddies, stitched up like a kipper, wronguns, evil doers, etc

😂😂

Arkengarthdale · 28/04/2017 12:56

Please will someone remind me who Hargreaves is? I've just re-watched Series 1 and only remembered bits of it - what superbly powerful telly Line of Duty is.

hackmum · 28/04/2017 13:04

ktel1: "I can't help but wonder if Thandie Newton's portrayal of Roz, which elicits no empathy or understanding, is a reflection of the character or the actress."

I mentioned in the other thread that I'd seen a Line of Duty panel talk recently. Someone asked Thandie about playing Roz, and she said that initially her instinct had been to show more emotion, but Jed Mercurio kept telling her to hold it all back, so that was how she played it.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 28/04/2017 13:04

He isn't in series one other than very briefly.

he is more of a fixture in 2. He is a hard nosed Northern copper and he clashes with people. Especially Ted.

He is mean to Steve after his partner dies.

Unlikeable in all ways. And probably bent.

ktel1 · 28/04/2017 13:08

Hargreaves is in charge of major violent crimes. He was in season 2 , investigating the murder of Tommy Hunter.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 28/04/2017 13:10

Anyone else seen 'Fight Club' ??
Maybe the balaclava men are Project Mayhem and Tyler Durden will pop up next episode

it's about as feasible as anything Marilyn comes up with

Wink
buggerthebotox · 28/04/2017 13:21

Hargreaves is my bet, too, followed by HastingsShock. There's a S5 commissioned, so plenty of scope....

I like the theory upthread that has Huntley (Nick) as part of some criminal network. I was thinking along those lines too. I also liked the theory that Tim was "demonstrating" how to cut up a body to someone else....I can't believe he really thought Roz was dead.

Can't wait for Sunday night! Just as well it's Bank Holiday next Monday-we need time to recoverGrin.

Ollycat · 28/04/2017 13:24

As a late adopter to LoD I'm now wondering if I need to watch all 3 previous series between now and Sunday!

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 28/04/2017 13:26

Oy, Beans! Wink

You ain't heard nothing yet: more far-from-feasible theories being mulled over.

May reveal best of the bunch this evening

Elendon,

No worries!

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 28/04/2017 13:27

CopperRose we're all very technical you see about the inside workings of the Police*

*TV Police of course Grin

There's so much to get our heads around but the big questions are.
Was Hana targetted and if so, what's the connection, or is she a random victim? Who is behind taking the victim to Michael Farmer's house* and why? It seems fairly clear now that Farmer is unable to put up a good case for his innocence, not only on this case but potentially the case he was first convicted for. I'm favouring that he is literally the 'fall guy' for bigger criminal fish.
I hope the clues I've picked up on aren't red herrings though Wink

Someone asked Thandie about playing Roz, and she said that initially her instinct had been to show more emotion, but Jed Mercurio kept telling her to hold it all back, so that was how she played it

That's interesting. She does come across as very, very cold and emotionless. I keep harping back to Denton but that character was so much more nuanced.

I actually like TN but she seem to be playing a better robot in LoD than she did in Westworld Confused

ktel1 · 28/04/2017 13:40

I think TN is doing a good job , she's a good actress, and I realize that the character of Roz is supposed to be cold .

I just wonder if she is just lacking a certain dimension .

For instance , I wonder how Keely would play the same role. I just think that we would see a little more of something lying beneath the surface.

Not a criticism of TN, probably more admiring Keely I suppose.

Ollycat · 28/04/2017 13:42

S1 Ted's first words to Steve - "is it Steven or Steve" surely meant to contrast with JnJ.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 28/04/2017 13:52

Yup Olly and as I said upthread in S2 he calls Georgia Georgina and she instantly corrects him so it's just s trop of the programme, I think.

ButtonMooooon · 28/04/2017 13:55

Just watching episode 5 again. Do we know how long Jodie was working with Roz before we saw them on screen? Just throwing around ideas she's an AC12 plant and the thing with Kate was just done so they thought they'd uncovered AC12s involvement

Just clutching at straws that something can't be that brown nosed Grin

Arkengarthdale · 28/04/2017 14:32

Ah Hargreaves, the guy who played Janet's husband in Scott and Bailey. He was horrid

CopperRose · 28/04/2017 14:44

THAT'S WHERE I RECOGNISE HIM FROM!!!

(Thanks Arken Grin)

ktel1 · 28/04/2017 14:56

He was Archie in Emmerdale

FeralBeryl · 28/04/2017 15:02

Ollycat yes!! You must! Smile

I'm still harping on about Denton and Akers so SPOILERS for series 2 and 3 ahead.

Did we ever find out why Akers phoned Kate on the night? I wondered whether she'd got scared and wanted a way out. Though as far as she was concerned it was just going to be a calm handover, no guns, 'everybody wins'.

Rewatching, Akers was pretty bold to approach Denton to join in. Denton already had a record of reporting corrupt police officers - if she hadn't gone along with it she would have reported Akers straight away after that convo. You would have thought Cottan could have identified someone more obviously likely to be led astray!

ktel1 · 28/04/2017 15:47

lol I see Adrian Dunbar is doing the premier league predictions with Lawro this week.

He's a fellow Arsenal fan!

I17neednumbers · 28/04/2017 15:57

Oh hang on Akers didn't call Kate - she asked Mr Akers to call her and get her to call back, didn't she? Did we ever find out why though?

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 28/04/2017 16:35

Alongside continuing with our interesting/ thought-provoking or plain crazy theories, do you suppose we should consider how best to deal with acute post-LOD withdrawal?

Only approx. 54hrs until cold turkey begins. Sad

Am easing out via the methadone of this MN thread, and re-watching all 3 series of "This Is England" (Vicky McClure's finest hour, IMO...she'll always be Lol for me!).

Imi22sleeping · 28/04/2017 16:40

Adrian dunbar worked with him once good actor bad human being 😩
