Omg WAIT

Trish says she saw a bright light didn't she, and they were trying to work out whether it was headlights? So it must have been a phone light for the camera.

Graphista · 04/04/2017 00:22

Lila that idea was already discussed on first thread.

If Broadchurch is full of 'surrendered' or complicit women that would persuade hardy to leave with his daughter while at the moment he wants to stay.

HelenaDove · 04/04/2017 00:27

I have been heartened by the posts that have said there is no way that someone in Beths position would behave like that in RL.

FeralBeryl · 04/04/2017 00:55

Oh that was incredibly sad Sad
Hope he's bumped Joe Miller off before he's committed suicide if it wasn't a dream
I think Katie (young copper) or surrendered wife lady are going to save the day somewhere. Katie is a good cop deep down and needs to show something massive to redeem herself. Surrendered wifevisnt as daft as she makes out, if her horrid cabbie husband has hurt her son in any way, she's going to cause trouble.

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 04/04/2017 02:07

A few thoughts:

  • Pretty sure Mark's watery suicide was via cliff jump. And the visions of older Danny in boat (and drowning himself), symbolic of Mark 'crossing' to the other side and joining him in death?

  • Feel so sorry for Chloe...imagine the guilt she'll feel about that last phone call. Sad
I initially thought perhaps she got help and Mark's rescued after all, but I think that would devalue the impact of such a moving end sequence.

  • Oh the irony: the only sensible, mature locals would seem to be teenage girls Leah and Chloe.

(For some reason, I'd assumed Leah was at Uni/ college...but she's another pupil at that school: might she have also become aware of amateur porn filming [or worse, been previously coerced/ blackmailed into taking part in them herself], not previously realising her own father's involved, but beginning to suspect now...

Perhaps Cocky Twine Boy gets Ice Cream Girlfriend to befriend and groom/ recruit local teens...reason for the I.O.U.s they both mentioned?).

  • Could someone clarify if Miller actually saw a bit of Tom's phone porn (dinner table scene), or merely heard some of it, before she became so angry/ disgusted with him that (apparently) destroyed it and laptop (kitchen smashing scene)?

Seems bloody odd that she wouldn't first watch the entire thing, after hearing Dim Taxi Clive provided it... Hmm
Surely, when mainstream, free, online porn's so widely accessible to all, including teen boys, it would ring major bells with her that it must have an illicit extra element, or why would Tom and DimTaxiClive's(Step)Son risk it?

*Still think Trish's filmed rape is as yet unseen, except between the perpetrator (s) and accomplice(s).

If next week's episode uncovers the porn ring, that's another irony that Miller'll then be deemed as closely related as DC Katie to someone suspected in a police investigation. Poor Miller.

(Obviously meant Mark drowning himself, not him hallucinating/ dreaming Danny doing such).

Oh god, you could see it on Mark's face when Joe said "I'm not brave enough to kill myself"

DubiousCredentials · 04/04/2017 08:01

When Joe told Mark that Danny was already dead on the beach by the time Mark was lurking in the car park with the Aussie woman, so he would never have been able to save him, I thought that by the look on his face, Mark would have some sort of comfort from that, as he had always blamed himself for being so close and not realising or doing anything. Obv got that one wrong didn't I. Really moving scene at the end. Poor Chloe though.

Dozer · 04/04/2017 08:36

DH was hopeful that the boat was a dream sequence, but I'm sure he jumped. I dislike it when TV and films use "afterlife" type images about death, especially suicide, it seems to be trying to present an unrealistically comforting image.

Excellent scenes between mark and joe: joe showing his selfishness ("I can't go to jail").

Very very bad thing for Mark to do to chloe to phone her just before jumping. He was in a bad state.

Vicar is going to have guilt about this.

Cary2012 · 04/04/2017 08:42

When Miller was reading the riot act to Ed's daughter, I thought that this would come back and bite her, via her son, and I feel this very strongly.

Beth was very unprofessional with the victim, and it shows that she's completely out of her depth in her support role.

Don't like Cath, thought it was great when Trish dismissed her via the garden.

Totally unmoved by the ending, although feel sorry for Chloe.

Better episode all round.

Dozer · 04/04/2017 08:50

Miller's lecture was hypocritical given that she ruined the case against her friend's son's murderer!

Beth's behaviour berating the woman who hadn't reported was totally wrong, and she should be fired for it. I hope it's reported to the supervisor.

I am worried about Katie, hope she doesn't get into danger investigating while off the case, or get attacked by nasty aaron.

If I worked long hours like DT and had a lonely teen when there was a serial rapist about I might well let her return to her mum's - his reasoning for her to stay was very self absorbed. No mention of her education, for example!

Halsall · 04/04/2017 09:06

Weighing in here to note that Ellie's son claimed his friend (creepy taxi-driver's son) got him the porn.

But he didn't. He (Ellie's son) showed the friend the porn film and enthusiastically told him it was a new one, a couple of episodes back. So who did he get it from?

My money's on Charlie Higson, very much playing against type here. He's as dodgy as all get-out and he has something deeply incriminating hidden on Trsh's computer, hence his desperation to get hold of it. Fishing twine twat is also involved, or at least has been, knows what he's up to and now wants out.

I think Ellie might need to get the forensic IT lot in to recover whatever's on that smashed phone. She did a good job on it Grin

I suspect Lenny Henry is a red herring and didn't do anything bad well, other than take 5,000 covert pictures of Trish over the course of a decade

sucue · 04/04/2017 09:09

I still think that Joe Miller may not have murdered Danny, he's covering for his son. This is the last part of the trilogy and I can just picture Miller's face when she realises in the last episode.

Disclaimer. I'm useless at mysteries, but I'm pretty sure that if Mark had jumped he wouldn't have landed in the sea.

Dozer · 04/04/2017 09:09

Yes, Ed is a red herring, unless he doesn't drink because of an alcohol problem and turned to the drink that night!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/04/2017 09:26

I think mark will survive his suicide attempt, and that he will have done something to Joe Miller beforehand. He may have taken sleeping tablets/alcohol etc and attempt to just drown but I think he'll wash up on the beach and be saved. I don't like him personally, I'm sure he's a fantastic actor but he's just too shifty for me.

Ellie didn't smash the laptop enough, evidence will still be able to be retrieved. I remember watching a documentary about porn and someone saying there that it is very hard to make a computer unable to be examined. I think young dc Katie will try to suggest Ellie was hiding evidence and use that to ruin her career. This will add up with her skewing miller's trial too and she'll give up policing.

Millers son is dodgy as anything, but I don't know what I think he's done, apart from maybe being a 'sharer' for taxi man's porn among his friends.

LH knows something but he didn't do it. It still hasn't come out about his caravans and seasonal occupants.

I think it was the Ex. Not sure how/why but I just think it was.

NormaSmuff · 04/04/2017 09:33

yes i thought trish was being filmed too.
i thought Leo had involvement as well as the ex husband although he is far too dodgy to be real.

Edsheeranalbumparty · 04/04/2017 10:26

I think the portrayal of Trish is fantastic actually. It's another rape myth that only 'good girls' ever get raped. Trish is actually obviously a bit of a bitch - she shagged her best mates husband on her mates birthday! She is a flawed character and it's quite refreshing to see a rape victim portrayed as someone so 'normal' - rape can happen to anyone, they don't have to be a completely lovely person: it's still rape.

If that makes sense?

NotJanine · 04/04/2017 10:29

Seeing as Miller saw the video on her son's phone I think we can assume it wasn't Trish or anyone underage.

The sock wasn't mentioned this week was it? Have they forgotten about it?!

hackmum · 04/04/2017 10:41

I was wondering about the sock, NotJanine! It's a crucial piece of evidence so yes, rather than immediately send it for DNA testing, they're obviously they're ignoring it. I expect it will pop up again next week.

Definitely not going to be Lenny Henry. Usually with these things it's none of the people you suspect, so not the taxi driver, not the ex-husband, not Jim. Possibly not even the taxi-driver's stepson, dodgy though he is (all the men are dodgy, aren't they?)

What are the vital clues so far? The smell of vodka on the rapist's breath, the football team sock (both of these suggest a young person to me), the fact that all three rapes happened in summer, the car breaking down and the breakdown service not turning up...anything else?

Edsheeranalbumparty · 04/04/2017 10:42

Are there really only 2 episodes left? There seems like an awful lot of things to resolve, particularly if it's going to turn out that Joe didn't kill Danny either!

Had a horrible thought - in both series 1 and 2 the final episodes showed the crime in question actually being committed fairly explicitly, i hope that doesn't follow suit for this series?

CoolCarrie · 04/04/2017 11:16

Could the rapes end up being the unsolved? But then we would feel cheated, and I don't imagine the writer would pull that injustice on the viewers again.

CremeEggThief · 04/04/2017 11:26

Nooo, CoolCarrie, don't say that! We NEED closure!Smile

LilaoftheGreenwood · 04/04/2017 11:27

The football team sock, I'd forgotten about that.

The blue twine thing is annoying because that stuff is simply all over coastal towns being used for everything, everyone who has any outdoor gear or needs to tie things up (which is everyone) will have some. It would be realistic although a bit annoying if it sort of sinks away as a clue.

I remember for S1 we ended up with a vast conspiracy involving whole community (which I much preferred to actual ending!) Maybe the writers read the thread and are pulling one together now.

sucue · 04/04/2017 12:25

When Joe Miller said he couldn't go to prison, I thought it was an odd thing to say if you killed the boy and were really repentant, especially if you were speaking to the boy's dad.

Not so odd though if you knew you hadn't done it.

The cab driver's wife is very strange, there's more to her I think.

CarrieBradshawsScrunchie · 04/04/2017 12:38

Miller and Hardy have been pretty crap, I think! Haven't investigated the mystery cottage, the sock, the taxi/breakdown truck thing... failed to look for the other cricket bat, got too bogged down with that flippin' twine... useless!
