I dislike both of the Latimers, and was completely unmoved by Mark's suicide.
To the poster who mentioned Virginia Woolf.... she weighted her pockets with stones before she went into the river.

I thought if you got out a boat and floated your survival instincts would kick in. You can't just close your eyes and die can you?

I am now leaning towards Trishes ex. I think Ed saw what happened, but has been blackmailed to keep quiet due to his stalkerish tendencies.

He just said he didn't mean to kill Danny. But after the recording was turned off.

I agree the broken down car thing is supposed to point to either Mr Breakdown Truck or Mr Taxi.

What gets me is that waiting to rape someone in the middle of a field in the middle of the night is very stupid unless you know someone is coming that way. So some common feature between Call Centre Woman and Won't Report Woman could be that they'd called a taxi and it hadn't turned up, or as WRW said the breakdown truck. Still not quite sure how that would go as someone driving behind would have to be quite close to see someone go into a field and they'd have noticed the vehicle. URGH it's all too horrible really.

On +1 Surely garage man would be obvious suspect for unreported rape in the field. Taxi man saw something but is being threatened.

Breakdown trucks already broken down hasn't it. The taxi man teased him....

I'm still suss about her husband. Presumably the boy cleared whatever it was (but was himself suspicious of the man) but wonder if the police are cleber enough to resurrect it.

Point made on fb - ed doesn't drink so unlikely to be rapist as rapist smelled strongly of drink.

Even in a small town there's more than one breakdown service.

Surely it's not Ed. I am still clueless to who it is. I've given up trying to guess.

So many families who lose children are destroyed by it, and split up. That last scene was so sad.

We're not going to find out who it is until the last episode. It's got to be someone that we have no reason to suspect so far.

Was anyone else wincing when the sons laptop and phone were getting smashed up ? I still feel there is a link - the rapes could have been filmed and be something he'd watched/ been sent

I knew it was Joe fairly early on in series 1. From when they had Alec round to dinner and Joe seemed to be trying to tease info from them both.

But I haven't got a clue this time. After tonight I'm thinking it may be taxi man and as a pp mentioned, he picked up he'd call for a breakdown truck on his radio. Alternatively, itcould be Jim as he has a breakdown truck.

I think it's porn if some sort on the laptop. Unlikely just to be mainstream though otherwise the police wouldn't care. More likely it contains images of abuse and/or children.

I'm clinging to the hope that last scene was Mark imagining suicide, and next week we'll see him walking away.

No way would someone doing Beth's job in RL behave like that. No way. That relationship is all about trust and the service wouldn't allow that at all.

Yes Missanne I was thinking the same about the phone/laptop.

I'm going to go out on a really horrible limb here and say that my theory is that Lucas the taxi driver originally attacked Trish, knocking her unconscious and dragging her down to the river, but that he forced his (step) son to rape her while he filmed it. Horrible shifty Leo is in possession of the video, (but has asked his girlfriend to hide the device they filmed it on - one of the "favours" he owes her) possibly filmed it with Lucas, or perhaps is responsible for running the porn ring. Either that or the other way round: Lucas raped Trish and forced his son to film it.

I agree, Beth behaved terribly towards the rape victim, but is that because she is desperate for another crime not to go unpunished in Broadchurch?

No vicar this week. He's going to be gutted if mark actually has killed himself.

But Trish was unconscious and the sounds from the porn clip are female. Would she be making any noise?

It's not the same porn clip cattychatty , the one of Trish is being kept hidden somewhere. Or if they had any sense has been destroyed. Taxi man and Twine guy I suspect have been making and distributing quite a bit of porn, perhaps even had a request for a particularly nasty kind.

I think the last scene was a figment of Marks imagination, there was no boat and he didn't climb out of it into the water.

Mark jumped off the cliff into the water. I think when it showed the two of them together in the boat it represented Marks hope of meeting up with older Danny in death. When it showed him climbing out of it into the water that was supposed to be when Mark had landed in the water from his fall.

I hope it is a dream sequence and he doesn't go through with it.

It could be that the porn is Trish but not when she was raped. Alec's daughter's (can't remember her name) nude selfie could be the key here - what if a number of the women in town have been persuaded to let themselves be filmed having sexed by their no-good husbands/boyfriends/lovers, not knowing that it is all fodder for slimy Lucas's local porn ring?

E.g. the other slimy one who runs the fishing tackle company, his girlfriend clearly does whatever he says.

Lucas's wife is a bit surrendered wife. So is Aaron the convicted rapist's from what we've seen of her.

Trish could have been persuaded by one lover or another to do it for fun, maybe even Jim when they had their morning shag on the day of the party.

None of this would directly explain the history of rapes in the area going back a few years though (other than cultural background), there has to be a perpetrator still.

a. Now that Eds daughter (havent caught all the character names) has been suspended its going to be easier for Sicko (the one who got into the car) to stalk her or worse.

And the scene where Mrs Latimer was saying to that rape survivor "how would you feel if other women got raped because you wont make a statement" shows how that even in certain professions the responsibility for the rapists behaviour is still laid at the door of the victims when the rapist and the rapist alone is responsible.
