So disappointed with this series. It isn't a patch on the other series. I find Trish so annoying she really irritates me.

2014newme · 04/04/2017 12:44

The mark suicide etc is yawnsome. A distraction from a good plot.
Now we will have Beth and chloe devastated all over again sa😴e old, same old. Move it on!

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 04/04/2017 13:01

The 1st and 2nd rapes both happened in 'the field'.

GrumpyJim and TaxiClive are both in the most advantageous jobs, as breakdown recovery service and cabbie, for hearing [and/ or tipping off 3rd party attacker(s?)] about times and whereabouts of any lone, vulnerable women.

"Seeing as Miller saw the video on her son's phone I think we can assume it wasn't Trish or anyone underage."

True, if she'd seen close-up faces, NotJanine (and I agree is definitely not pre-adolescent child porn, thank God) but 14/ 15 yr olds could be passed off as legal, late teens, I suppose.

The amateur filmer(s?) could purposely have angled camera to disguise identity in the eventual footage? Or pixelated? (Yet threatened those filmed with releasing an uncut version, if they didn't keep quiet?).

In Miller's DS's clip, the female didn't sound at all gagged/ muffled, so not Trish's rape. (Or either of the other 2 women). Doesn't mean it was necessarily consensual, though, sadly.

Can well imagine ArrogantTwineBoy (with help from IceCreamGirlfriend, perhaps?) grooming the underage teen girls with attention, expensive presents etc., convincing them to send compromising selfies, then blackmailing them to go further: pimping them out to other Broadchurch ring members in RL? Football team players? On film?
Vile Angry

Hardy's DD refused to take part, was exposed as consequence, and had to break silence about her picture to her DF. Who better hurry up and make a connection.

Poor Mark and Chloe. I've loved the Latimers' story. I think it's been very effective at showing how devastating the after-effects of crime can be.
although Beth should be sacked for accosting the other rape victim

I've no idea who raped Trish except it isn't Lenny Henry.

hackmum · 04/04/2017 13:09

You're right, Carrie, it is annoying that we've been given all these clues and then for some reason they've failed to follow them up. I agree with 2014 as well about the Mark suicide. I think the main problem is the decision to extend the series over eight episodes, so they're padding it out with stuff that detracts from the main story. Compare with Line of Duty which, for all its faults, goes at a cracking pace.

DubiousCredentials · 04/04/2017 13:17

Maybe the first two rapes were committed by the rapist, who since has realised that there is a market for viewing material of this nature so has somehow roped in an accomplice to video the rape and also distract Trish. From the clip it's hard to see how the light that Trish saw could be anything other than a mobile phone flash/torch imo.

Agree it's annoying how clues have not been mentioned or followed up.

oldmum22 · 04/04/2017 13:18

This is what I think happened..........Old bloke that owns the venue has crewed up with cocky twine man and girlfriend to produce amateur porn . Ellies son is on the fringes, maybe distributing. Cabbies and garage man are both players so my money is on either one of those as the rapist. Garage man might just get off on having sex with Trish in the morning and raping her at the party. Garage man may be the one that was called for the woman whose car broke down maybe. Katie knows something about the registered sex offender which has not yet been revealed. The one thing I am sure of , is that Lenny Henry is innocent of the rape . Looking forward to next week .

Bestthingever · 04/04/2017 13:27

I thought the storyline with Mark and Beth was really touching. She's found meaning and purpose in her life while he's been unable to move on. The scenes where he was imagining talking to teenage Danny were really poignant. I have a ds who is the same age was Danny is supposed to be and it's unbearable to imagine not seeing him growing up.
Incidentally, I'm very grateful to the writers for the storyline about teenagers having indecent images on their devices. It prompted an important conversation last night!

DubiousCredentials · 04/04/2017 13:28

What was is that dodgy young woman pc came rushing over to tell Hardy on the beach that she said she should have told him before?

PollyPerky · 04/04/2017 13:32

never saw previous series. had high hopes after all the hype here about this one. Bit disappointing.

Reminds me of an Agatha Christie- loads of suspects being set up and most will be red herrings then the real culprit will be someone we hardly know .

Cops' work seems a bit amateurish at times. I actually fell asleep watching it last night.

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 04/04/2017 13:33

Dubious,

I think it was that he beat his wife on one occasion?
(Could be wrong, though...memory not great!).

DubiousCredentials · 04/04/2017 13:37

In the first series there were lots of red herrings and dodgy goings-on, but they all had a story didn't they? Which although they didn't all tie in with Danny's murder they made the series gripping and interesting I thought. E.g. Old bloke in the paper shop who they thought was a paedophile, Pauline Quirke character turning out to be Nige's mum, Miller's sister with the money(?) problems etc. We're not getting the reveals as we go in this series, so it is feeling dissatisfying to me as they are all still suspects with two episodes to go.

DubiousCredentials · 04/04/2017 13:38

Thanks Thalia, I don't remember it being referred to again but I expect dh was talking to me and I missed it.

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 04/04/2017 13:40

To clarify:
Admitted to Hardy that Ed, her Dad, beat her late mother (he claims just once)...maybe to demonstrate he does have an aggressive streak?

Think it was straight afterwards that he confronted Ed (in custody) about it, and Ed knew that fact could only have come from his daughter, DC Katie.

Dubious, you've just reminded me of the old bloke. I felt sorry for him. Young lad having sex with young girl one month short of her 16th birthday. I'm not excusing underage sex or grooming but in that particular case it was obv two young people in love who subsequently married and had a child and lived happily until tragedy struck.

DubiousCredentials · 04/04/2017 14:04

Yes it was sad. They were all stood in the car park waving metaphorical pitchforks at him Sad

We've still not had any more info/scenes about the newspaper have we. The editor made a brief appearance last week when Mark told her he was off to Liverpool Scotland so maybe she'll be back in next week.

LIZS · 04/04/2017 14:06

She was at the press conference.

Splinters6 · 04/04/2017 14:10

She was but I found it a bit far fetched when she told them that Jocelyn was in London working on a big case when Jocelyn's eyesight was so bad 3yrs ago that she could barely cope with the Miller trial.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/04/2017 14:18

I think it is Ed

He is obsessive, his clothes were muddy and we don't know why he doesn't drink and the case will fall apart becuase of his daughter

We shall find out about a porn sharing between taxi driver, ex husband and teenagers the one who owns the fishing tackle shop has his girlfriend involved

And Beth was taking about how she felt not about her client felt sorry for them both but poor Beth she can't see this but she was wrong (could happen but these roles you are able to recognise what is your issues and what are the clients)

DubiousCredentials · 04/04/2017 14:25

Remember though, Ian (ex husband) was seen hastily shoving all his clothes from the party into the washing machine in an earlier episode.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 04/04/2017 14:32

We still don't know why Trish's ex's gf sent Trish a text ...
I don't feel like they have dropped strands of the story. DNA results don't come back quickly and in RL Miller and Hardy wouldn't be sitting round chatting about the football sock unless it proves to be significant.

TreeTop7 · 04/04/2017 16:05

Excellent acting from Andrew Buchan and Matthew Gravelle last night. Very poignant ending. Poor Chloe, how much she's been through in her short life! We may see Trish supporting Beth now, in a weird kind of turnaround.

I have no idea who attacked Trish. I do think that the quiet, curly-haired wife with the EA husband will be key. I think that the teen porn story featuring Daisy et al, is a red herring - I reckon it's just a topical sub plot designed to give Hardy and Miller a domestic storyline each, to flesh out the characters' lives a bit.

Maybe the garage's financial issues are important. Cath referred to them last week, saying that she could make her husband's life difficult if she chose - if it were just a failing small business those words wouldn't be so menacing....maybe there has been impropriety there, or it's a front for something cash-in-hand.

Dozer · 04/04/2017 16:57

Ex H is a controlling fucker, and her "friend" Ed is a creepy stalker.

I don't understand why Cath would agree to stay and move away with Jim, when even before she found out about his having sex with Trish she described her relationship with Jim to the police as "loveless".

Edsheeranalbumparty · 04/04/2017 17:09

When those boys called round for Daisy a few episodes ago, one of them was Clive's stepson. I'm sure there is some sort of significance? I wonder if the step son is being coerced into making dodgy films or something? Daisy told Hardy that 'someone found' her phone though and it had a picture on it, rather than someone else filming her?

God, it makes me so nervous for when my kids are older, i just hope i do a good enough job with educating them about this stuff!

Mind you, i remember there being so many red herrings and people coming up with all sorts of intricate ideas in the last 2 series, i think the actual reveal might be quite simple.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 04/04/2017 17:11

I think Cath agreed to stay with Jim because she has fallen into the 'pick-me dance'. and so they could have another scene between SP and JH as they are both excellent
She'll come to her senses before the end of the series.
