Previous Homeland thread - new thread for the sake of inter-episode tidiness.

Oh I keep meaning to watch that. I like Damien Lewis. I've just rewatched band of brothers.

Travelledtheworld · 12/03/2017 23:49

Band of Brothers ! That's a real classic. DH watches it at least once a year.
I saw Damien on stage in American Buffalo a couple of years back.
He was great, but John Goodman was even better....

Are we going a bit off topic here ? NO!

ZilphasHatpin · 12/03/2017 23:55

It's ok, it's relevant. We're examining the character development of Brody and the impact of his previous stage and screen experience Wink

avamiah · 12/03/2017 23:58

I can't wait for Better Caul Saul .
Next season here in UK is 4 April I think ?

Lweji · 13/03/2017 00:17

He also played a baddie in the Forsyte Saga. I just couldn't watch it. Damian is always good.

Same as Saul.

ZilphasHatpin · 13/03/2017 00:58

Just watching billions. Another homelander is in it!! The guy who was in Berlin, grey hair, we weren't sure about him to begin with, really dry humour. Can't remember his name.

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/03/2017 03:15

Who was the man with Dar right at the beginning when they were watching the PE on TV and he called her a cunt?

HalleLouja · 13/03/2017 06:26

Zilphas the fishy basement was the place the FBI agent went to where there was private sector intelligence gathering. Then Mr FBI got murdered. Obviously Dar is trying to bury that.

Fiderer · 13/03/2017 06:40

Am cross that Dar is Darth as feared so much a pantomime baddie. His beard doesn't help. Saul has a whopper of a good beard. Dar's is small & sly.

Gosh what a loss to the intelligence community I am.

Didn't see the Quinn exchange coming, he was still v young when Dar met him. Hopefully Astrid helps him.

The Brody ref was prob just code between Javadi & Saul. Though the whole Brody execution was public knowledge so hardly subtle "Eagle flies high at noon" stuff.

Lovely tidy thread Hassled Wink

Ciutadella · 13/03/2017 06:51

Why did he need to murder Bastani? If he (Javadi) is applying for asylum he has nothing to fear from Bastani blabbing, does he? So I couldn't see any need to kill the 'loose end'. Also, how does Saul know Javadi is telling the truth about the parallel programme - might he not, just conceivably, have another agenda (such as, for example, obtaining asylum)?

Saul seems to be relatively lowly in the CIA now if he can be summoned in for interrogation. I've forgotten the precise details of his career trajectory - he retired, worked as a consultant, went back - but at one point I thought he was pretty high up. Does anyone remember - wasn't he at one time in the running for D G - but Carrie scuppered it - not quite sure how?

Um, I thought the social worker had a point. Asking Quinn to babysit just so that she didn't have to wait 10 mins for the nanny to arrive was not good judgment on Carrie's part. And now she comes to mention it, sleeping with a loaded gun next to her, hmmm. Does it matter that Dar was her source - Frannie does need protection at the moment?

Lweji · 13/03/2017 07:19

Amir knew too much. He could talk to Iran or the US. Under torture everyone talks, but dead people don't.

But, surely, the Iranians will miss some of their people. And Javadi will have to make up a story to ask for asylum, although he looks more worried about money.

Ciutadella · 13/03/2017 07:32

I think the CIA may do for Javadi anyway - though Saul may manage to get him to see the PE first.

But a more pressing concern is that Javadi may be lying anyway, I feel....He's not really the first person you would trust to determine your Middle East foreign policy!

Fiderer · 13/03/2017 07:43

There were several "acting out of habit/training" bits.

Quinn with Frannie.
Carrie with Frannie & the gun.
Javadi & Bastani.

All went arseways, also suspect Javadi will not have his million dollar US life.

diddl · 13/03/2017 08:54

I'm not the only one who didn't feel sorry for Carrie about losing Frannie am I?

Mind you, Carrie winds me up something terrible!

ZilphasHatpin · 13/03/2017 09:01

Today 06:26 HalleLouja

Zilphas the fishy basement was the place the FBI agent went to where there was private sector intelligence gathering. Then Mr FBI got murdered. Obviously Dar is trying to bury that.

I have no recollection of this! Was it this series?

Question about batsani. How did he know where javadi was when he was being tortured? Was he following him? Why? Who sent him?

Fiderer · 13/03/2017 09:13

diddl - no, you're not alone.

10 minutes till the nanny comes so I'll leave my daughter in the care of a demonstrably unstable paranoid man. When NY is in the midst of a terror attack & I'm involved with the case & the alleged bomber. In 2017, where it's all out in the open if you have a phone, let alone access to court documents.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 13/03/2017 09:14

I agree it lacks a subtlety, Dar is too much of a comedy villain in this season.

HalleLouja · 13/03/2017 09:30

Zilphas it was the previous episode when the FBI man (Conlin?) went in search for the jeep linked to the bombings. Am probably just bad at explaining things...

I think Bastani just happened to be there as one of the Irani intelligence people and rescued Javadi.

Anyway Saul and Javadi met and Dar doesn't know what has happened yet.

Lweji · 13/03/2017 09:39

Remember when Carrie was falling out with Saul and was kicked out and got into hospital? And it turned out that it was a plan to turn Javadi?
I didn't either. :)
But it came up when I was looking up where had he come from and his links to Brody.

Dar is such an obvious villain that I wonder if something else might be going on. Although Carrie does seem genuinely distressed, so if there is a huge plan, she's not in it.

ZilphasHatpin · 13/03/2017 09:47

Oh I remember that lewji! You could be right! Maybe it's another move.

Thanks halle I think I must have been sleeping through half of last weeks episode although I do remember conlin getting killed.

lostlalaloopsy · 13/03/2017 10:06

Dar Adal is such a bad guy. Do you remember at the end of season 4? After the attack on the American Embassy, and Carrie was in the street watching the lead terrorist getting a hero's welcome and Dar Adal was in the car with him!! I never understood why nothing more has come up about that!

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 13/03/2017 10:08

That was because they made a deal with him, Loopsy.

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/03/2017 10:24

But who was Sweary Man right at the beginning with Dar?

I asked up there ^^ but no one answered meeeeee

TheSpottedZebra · 13/03/2017 10:27

Wasn't he a general or something? From right at the beginning of the series, when Dar met with all those (similar looking) men, and they were all talking about the PE and her dovishness?

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/03/2017 10:41

Ah. Thank you Zebra. So not integral to the plot then?
