Previous Homeland thread - new thread for the sake of inter-episode tidiness.

Sister is in Rome with her husband.

Pigeonpost · 12/03/2017 22:50

Carrie told the CPS lady her sister is in Rome for a year as her professor husband is on a sabbatical.

Dar is a shit. I didn't have him down as a kiddyfiddler though. Yuck.

ZilphasHatpin · 12/03/2017 22:55

Ah, I missed that. Thanks.

I didn't have him down as a kiddyfiddler though

Me either. Like a PP that felt like a bit of an afterthought to me. There didn't seem to be the groundwork for it in previous seasons.

ZilphasHatpin · 12/03/2017 22:55

And I need to know about brody!!

Charley50 · 12/03/2017 22:56

oh Carrie you blew that one. Dar - is he really a peadophile? Could you get to the top of CIA (or whatever his is...?) ..
Carrie having ever been an agent gets more ridiculous every episode. And poor Quinn he really does deserve an AI holiday in the Florida Keys or some other loveliness.

nightswimming1 · 12/03/2017 22:58

I didn't get he impression he was suggesting Dar was a paedophile. Just that Quinn was a young (not underage) man. Brilliant scene.
Dar is well scripted. Heart breaks for Carrie but equally want a bit more exciting... can't wait for next week !

HalleLouja · 12/03/2017 22:59

Poor Quinn at least he is with Astrid who does love him.

Dar is pretty much the devil poor Carrie. Plus PE wanted Carrie to give dirt on Dar even though it wasn't legit for her to do so but wouldn't help her.

The other story line with the fishy basement seems to be successfully buried by Dar.

offblackeggshell · 12/03/2017 23:00

That was a properly scary episode. But I completely missed how anything we saw makes Dar a paedophile? I mean I know he is the baddest of bad men, but what did I miss? (Caveat I was writing a birthday card so know I must have missed something!)

ZilphasHatpin · 12/03/2017 23:09

What was the fishy basement?

Quinn called dar a dirty old man and dar said something about how we are all beautiful when young and that he never forced himself on anyone.

Does Carrie have any leverage with PE? Does she have dirt on her?

I am depending on Astrid to see dar for the bad man he is and rescue Quinn.

TheSpottedZebra · 12/03/2017 23:09

The Brody thing was Bastami letting Saul know he knew all about/was on the side of Javadi.

The paedophile/abuser thing was on the deck, when Dar and Quinn were talking. Dar said that Quinn had no self pity, that was the first thing he liked about him. Quinn said- not the first. Then it went from there, Dar saying he never forced himself on anyone...

I agree he's not necessarily literally a paedophile. But he did abuse Quinn, who was young and vulnerable.

Lweji · 12/03/2017 23:12

I've watched it twice now and I had missed the Brody reference.

Not sure why he'd mention Brody. It could have been just so that Saul knew it was really from Javadi. But what is the connection between the two?

Ah, he masterminded the Langley bombing, according to Homeland.wikia

ZilphasHatpin · 12/03/2017 23:12

He definitely preyed on a vulnerable young man in order to manipulate him/recruit him. But I guess that's a lot of how the CIA works.

UnGoogleable · 12/03/2017 23:15

But I completely missed how anything we saw makes Dar a paedophile? I mean I know he is the baddest of bad men, but what did I miss?

When Dar was talking to Quinn by the lake, he said something about Quinn's character being "the first thing I saw in you" to which Quinn replied "It wasn't the FIRST thing you saw"

Then Dar said something about everyone being pretty when they were young, and he didn't force himself on anyone.

So from that, I assume that Dar abused Quinn. Not sure if he was underage - does anyone remember how old Quinn was when Dar took him in?, but the inference was clear.

ZilphasHatpin · 12/03/2017 23:18

there is more to the brody reference. He said "greetings from Sargent brody". If he just wanted to let him know that he knew all about javadi/brody he would have said something like "our friend told me about his association with brody" etc. But "greetings from Sargent brody" implies brody exists!! As in he sends greetings at this present moment in time. I'm not letting this candle burn out am I? Grin (I'm going to be disappointed aren't I?)

ZilphasHatpin · 12/03/2017 23:20

I forget javadi's part in previous seasons. Was he involved in brody's death? Was he an ally to brody?

I really need to watch homeland from the start again.

Travelledtheworld · 12/03/2017 23:20

I am sure Quinn was a teenager when Dar took him in. Perhaps 16?
And then he trained him as a killer....

Lacking in love. Poor Rupert.

ZilphasHatpin · 12/03/2017 23:21

It's why he has that awful moustache. No-one who loves him enough to tell him to get rid of it.

Travelledtheworld · 12/03/2017 23:23

Yes. He needs a change of clothes too. Been wearing those baggy sweat pants for too long.

UnGoogleable · 12/03/2017 23:27

Let's hope Astrid sorts him out. I was so relieved to see her actually taking care of him, rather than Carrie's efforts of just jibber jabbering at him.

Zilphas love your username by the way. Although you should have called yourself ZilphasFuckingDress

Lweji · 12/03/2017 23:28

Let's see. Brody was executed in Iran. But could he live?

I don't think the future dead guy knew about Brody, He just told Saul whatever Javadi told him to say.

Javadi is a soulless murderous SOB, and this episode reminded us of that.

I should watch Season 3 again.

ZilphasHatpin · 12/03/2017 23:29

Although you should have called yourself ZilphasFuckingDress

Ooh!! That's a good one! I think I'll reserve it if no other bastard has got there before me. Grin

I am as certain of Astrid' goodness as I am of Saul's. They are good! I bet she even has Saul snacks. Or would they be Astrid snacks? Astrid appetisers?

offblackeggshell · 12/03/2017 23:30

Thanks for the explanation - that was exactly when I wasn't listening, just looking. Blush

ZilphasHatpin · 12/03/2017 23:33

I don't think the future dead guy knew about Brody, He just told Saul whatever Javadi told him to say.

Agree with this. He was just repeating the "safe word" he had been given to get Saul to come with him. But that message, those words, were deliberately chosen by javadi. Why those words that implies brody lives? Surely Homeland writes wouldn't be as careless as to use a phrase like that without realising what it would mean for me the audience? They choose words deliberately. Perhaps just to make sure everyone turns in for ever episode.

Travelledtheworld · 12/03/2017 23:38

Anyone else seen Damien Lewis on an American cable TV show called Billionaire ?
He's a very nasty character. Ruthless.

Travelledtheworld · 12/03/2017 23:38

Sorry, Billions !
