Will anyone here be watching?!

OP posts:

I think Ian breaking in will lead the investigation to the porn- trish will report the break in and it will lead to Ian, who rather than be accused of all sorts (because it looks bad doesn't it?) will confess to whatever is on his laptop. Not sure whether it's linked to trish's rape though, but there's definitely something to do with either trish or her teenage daughter on there. It will also lead to Leo being looked at, as he put whatever on there and was going to remove it, so they will look more closely at his rope shop and also his football team (socks). I feel like the net is closing in.....

ElspethFlashman · 29/03/2017 17:30

But he didn't break in, did he? He just walked in. And presumably it used to be his house until fairly recently. Of course that wouldn't stop DT & OC giving him squinty looks.

I suspect he won't even be noticed though and it's a red herring cliffhanger. He'll just sneak out again.

DrAbbyYates · 29/03/2017 17:39

He didn't break in - he had a key - but Trish perhaps doesn't know that he has one. I'm sure in the first episode when they asked if anyone else had keys she said only her neighbour did.

TenThousandSteps · 29/03/2017 17:48

Does Ian have a key because Clive (taxi man) has given him Trish's key? Perhaps Ian went to him to say he needed to get something off Trish's laptop but can't get hold of it and Clive gave him the key to 'break in' to steal it?

Davros · 29/03/2017 18:02

The laptop man is not the taxi driver

Cagliostro · 29/03/2017 18:27

I thought the scene with Cath and Trish was incredibly well acted. Pure venom from Cath.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/03/2017 18:32

Hmmmm yes that makes sense about the key- although she may still either wake up to see him there, or notice the laptop missing? Or he may leave 'evidence' behind.

Graphista · 29/03/2017 18:53

It's a tourist town we know from first series that there's hotels, b&b's etc so Ian coulda found somewhere else to stay (I'm sure there's a premier inn somewhere nearby Wink)

But he is desperate to get hold of that laptop.

JDelanysCleanHorse · 29/03/2017 18:57

I think Ian was after Trish's laptop as he's had spy software on it. When he was first being interviewed by the police didn't he say she was having sex with strangers off the internet-how would he know this?

I like Ed-unrequited love is the worst.
Bet he felt so much better after beating up Jim.
I don't think Ed raped Trish.

Not sure about the bloke who owns axehampton-I think it was someone younger & stronger. The possibility there were two are more likely.

Sairelou · 29/03/2017 20:01

Hang on, didn't the creepy rope/football guy say that the business was his Dad's but it was passed to him to run because his Dad is getting old?
Could his Dad be the owner of the Manor House at Axehampton?
And creepy rope guy lives in the cottage (hence the wink to the taxi driver)?

Sairelou · 29/03/2017 20:03

And the errant football sock is a red herring because he could be getting his mum to do the washing and it was dropped somewhere during the handover of the dirty kit?

WhenLoveAndCakeCollide · 29/03/2017 20:05

Graphista - I don't think they know that DC Harford is the daughter of Ed Burnett. When she first saw his name on the party guest list, her reaction was uncomfortable, and then she went to see him in secret that night. If they knew, I'm sure it would have been mentioned at some point.

I may be wrong of course, but I hope I'm not.

If I'm right, I think they will find out at some point that she is Ed's daughter, and Alec's reaction will be interesting!

Dozer · 29/03/2017 20:27

All the male characters are creepy aren't they!

Though I don't think he did it Ed seems controlling and sinister. Perhaps he has something in his past that his daughter, who it doesn't seem he has a good relationship with, is hiding.

Was in manchester piccadilly station today and saw a man who looked very much like the convicted rapist actor, but his beard was darker. Shudder!

Dozer · 29/03/2017 20:28

I hope they prove that red herring rapist breached his parole conditions and that he goes back to jail.

Mimimouse4 · 29/03/2017 20:41

I'm going for a different point of view and I don't think she was raped.

I can't really work out why but something doesn't sit right with her. She's been sleeping around a lot, seemed to enjoy telling Kath about her and Jim and the way she asked 'do you believe me'

Is she trying to get revenge? Make someone jealous or involved in some kind of porn?

Not too sure but I don't think she's so innocent

DrAbbyYates · 29/03/2017 21:04

Mimi I'll be deeply disappointed in the programme-makers if that is the case. They have done so well to present the sympathetic, sensitive treatment of rape victims by the police. This is the kind of stuff that encourages victims to come forward. The resolution that you suggest would be really irresponsible.

Dozer · 30/03/2017 06:19

Yes, there's no way that'd be the storyline.

SapphireStrange · 30/03/2017 10:17

Ah so dts duaghters pic was probably what the teenage boys were looking at earlier in the series?

SapphireStrange · 30/03/2017 10:17

Oops, posted too soon! I meant to say: it looked to me as though they were watching footage, not just looking at a static pic.

Abraiid2 · 30/03/2017 10:28

I find it hard to believe that Trish is the object of so much male desire.

SapphireStrange · 30/03/2017 10:35

But what is she holding over him with the 'I could set fire to your life' comment mean? What's he done only she knows about? I wondered about that too. Maybe he raped one of the other women. I don't think he's Trish's rapist though.

I'm still finding it hard to buy the story that he came to look at the boiler and he and Trish had sex. I just wasn't convinced by her saying 'I just wanted sex.'

She's not telling anyone Lenny Henry is her dad (why don't they know already in a small place? This is really annoying me! I'm sure it's going to turn out to be significant and be presented as a shock reveal, but it's something that Ellie and Alec really should know about already.

I also think that the vicar has had sex with Trish. Why do you think that, Elendon? Intriguing! I hope the vicar isn't just there to provide a focus for a 'decline of the church' thread.

Was the landowner the same guy who lived in the cottage and appeared last week. No, someone else lives in the cottage but the cops haven't found them yet. Interesting theory that rope boy might be the house owner's son and be living there.

Ian - fits in with the seasonal aspect. How? Also, I agree that Ian had spyware fitted on Trish's laptop; I don't think it is linked to the porn storyline.

iklboo · 30/03/2017 11:07

We're going to need a new thread soon!

CeciliaMiddleton · 30/03/2017 11:27

I hope the vicar isn't just there to provide a focus for a 'decline of the church' thread. -- I also thought that! Why was he so disappointed when he was denied access to Trish?!? Thought that was really weird, and he's been such a whiter than white character up until now, would be a good twist

VanillaSugar · 30/03/2017 12:08

Boat boy is manor house owner's son - yes, I want this to happen: but surely the police should have twigged that they've got the same surname?

VanillaSugar · 30/03/2017 12:09

Maybe the vicar has nothing but a walk on part this series which is why the actor is so pissed off GrinGrin
