It's interesting to hear that about the four planned series of The Crimson Field pix as now I recall an article about it before it started saying that the BBC had planned it as part of their WW1 commemoration and intended to create one series for each year of the war. That was yet another good drama that someone didn't see fit to recommission. The problem is that so many of these short series that get axed feel like they are unfinished at the end probably because the writers had a much longer timescale in mind.

Ilovelblue · 14/03/2017 23:02

Has anyone watched The Replacement tonight? It was pretty good and I got quite hooked. I can't say that about many drama series really. I think OG has spoiled us a lot. Just like CJ/BA has spoiled us for other male TV leads (as kazza and Yorks both point out).

Been clearing out lots of my junk at work. It's amazing how much clutter you collect. I wouldn't care but I moved desks about 15 months ago and had a decluttering session then. It's becoming very real.

Somebody looked very puzzled yesterday when I said I was leaving and said "Well what will you do?". It was as if he thought I spent all my waking hours in work. I just laughed.

I feel completely ok about it all at the moment but how I will feel on Friday is another matter. I just hope I'm not a blubbering wreck.

SoEverybodyDance · 15/03/2017 00:05

Ilove best of luck with the VR, you must be part in shock and part hugely looking forward to doing all those things you wanted to do... I bet you're going to get into some amazing gardening projects...

I am the total opposite of you, having been mostly off work for the last few years bringing up my little boy, I am in shock at just having been offered a full time job! I am wondering how I'm going to do all the things I used to do and yet really looking forward to the camaraderie of being in a team again! It is indeed a strange moment...

Alwaysfrank · 15/03/2017 09:40

I was feeling a bit down last week (for no good reason I might add - probably hormones!) so I treated myself to re-watching the whole of series 1 in one go on Friday (with a few fast forwarded bits). I know I sound like a broken record on this but the whole package- the story of course- but also the scenery, the soundtrack, the banter, the script itself was just perfect. It brought it home to me how superior in every way it was to S2. To be honest I can't get too excited about S3 unless CJ has a proper role this time. If only we knew the pub conversation between BA and TG after the play. If I'd realised at the time it was him I would have been eavesdropping for England!

Good luck with your last few days ilove. I don't know you in RL of course but from what I know from here you could make a business of either gardening or cake-making if you wanted!

icemist · 15/03/2017 13:29

Will you not watch it then always if he's not in it?

Alwaysfrank · 15/03/2017 18:07

Probably, just with realistic expectations!

Rhubarb01 · 15/03/2017 18:38

Evening! I have to say that after having a little binge watch of OG2 over the weekend (episodes 1-3 on Sunday and 4 &5 on Monday) and having taken a step back from all our over-analysis and criticism of it and just viewed it as a drama in two parts, I actually really enjoyed it. I just watched it for what it was and I thought it worked quite well as a two-parter. I think I'm just going to have to watch OG3 as something different again as I suspect it will be different to series 2 - that sounds obvious but you know what I mean. Looking back at series 1 it does seem a very different kettle of fish (a very good and attractive one!) but I still think that's because we knew Molly really well before she went to Afghanistan. We might view OG3 differently because we will know Georgie and her story much better not that I think it will stop us doing the in-depth analysis on here Smile.

kazzaD66 · 15/03/2017 22:54

I see what you're saying rhu but I have never seen the the original one off drama introducing Molly, so S1 was completely new to me but I still think that it is far superior to S2 for so many reasons - the great camaraderie of 2 Section, the soundtrack (still love London Grammar), the brilliant Dawes family and of course, the fantastic chemistry between CJ and Molly, to name but a few. I guess we've just got to wait out and see what happens (both in terms of cast and story line) Confused

Rhubarb01 · 16/03/2017 00:29

Kazza I completely agree about series 1 on all counts and apart from the obvious lack of Molly I also really missed the absence of a soundtrack on series 2. I'm not sure what I might have thought about series 1 if I hadn't seen and been captivated by the original story, I suppose I was just judging by the fact that I felt a bit disengaged by series 2 because the main characters were effectively strangers. I did grow to like Georgie's family more in my recent viewings although I still can't forgive "God's pencil" or understand why her parents would be so pushy about her getting married when it was such a bad time for her to make that decision and also so easygoing about the fact that she just jilted the doctor at the altar - I can't imagine many people not having an almighty row about it afterwards.

Oh well, burning the midnight oil here and time to pack it all in. Have a good Thursday everyone! ilove hope the last couple of days go well.

Rhubarb01 · 16/03/2017 07:08

Morning - yes it's me again! Did anyone see the Panorama special that was on last night immediately after the news? It was about the Appeal court decision in relation to the Marine convicted of murder. I'm not going talk about that case but the journalist and ex-soldiers interviewed presented quite an eye-opening account of what it had been like in Afghanistan at that time and the severe pressures under which soldiers operated. It made me think about series 1 again as so many of the things they were discussing were touched upon in that series although I think the vision of life at the CP in OG was probably slightly rosier than the reality.

Ilovelblue · 16/03/2017 08:27

I saw bits of Panorama Rhu but was trying to set up a new laptop at the time (always been lucky to have work ones so far) and didn't concentrate properly. Some of the ANA stories were rather gruesome.

Ilovelblue · 16/03/2017 08:35

I was in the minority I know in that I enjoyed OG2 for what it was and didn't try to compare too much (and was also a fan of Elvis). However 'God's pencil' made me cringe and also when her mother said Georgie couldn't be pregnant as she was marrying a doctor. I think Mrs Lane was more fond of telling everyone Georgie was marrying a doctor than anything else and that's why she was keen to hurry things along. Oh and two weddings that didn't happen? Just a group hug when she didn't turn up to the church? Hmmmmm, doubtful.

Ilovelblue · 16/03/2017 08:40

Thanks for your good wishes everyone about finishing work. It feels very real now as people start to say goodbye. I will be a wreck tomorrow I think.

pixieg1rl · 16/03/2017 10:19

I watched the pilot last night; I always enjoy that one as it really shows Molly realising what she can do.

When s3 came out remember we all talked about how it didn't answer why CJ had changed his mind about leaving the army? S1 never really explained how and why Dave changed his attitude to Molly refusing to go along with his plans to marry her off or be in the army.

pixieg1rl · 16/03/2017 10:23

And if you're still lurking woof, The Last Kingdom starts tonight. Not only an eyeful of Uhtred, but also Rik Rankin is in this series as a mad monk. 😜

Rhubarb01 · 16/03/2017 14:04

pix as much as the last series didn't explain why CJ stayed in the army I assumed that he'd had time to reconsider as he recuperated and it had just been an immediate reaction to the situation when he was at a very low ebb in hospital and Molly was stroking his fevered brow. There is a parallel with Georgie's situation when she says she's leaving and the scene where she and CJ are crossing the parade ground. CJ tells her not to do anything hasty and think about her career. I think that might have been the 'Appr'priate Moment' to say what had made him change his mind after Afghan.

As for Dave? Mmh - don't really know what convinced him.

Rhubarb01 · 16/03/2017 14:06

On the other hand perhaps Dave thought that once Molly had a reasonably well paid job she'd be good for tenner now and then?

pixieg1rl · 17/03/2017 07:01

Have a great last day ilove. I hope you do absolutely no work and get taken to the pub for lunch

Richtea19 · 17/03/2017 07:22

I'll be thinking of you today ilove. I expect I will be full of all sorts of different emotions. I hope you have a great last day and just think, no more Monday mornings!!!!
Xx

Rhubarb01 · 17/03/2017 07:36

Have a good day ilove. Just remember dear old Scarlet O'Hara "Tomorrow is another day!" only one with less stress and annoyance and also one which doesn't involve an early morning alarm call. On to fresh fields and pastures new!

SoEverybodyDance · 17/03/2017 07:54

enjoy your last day ilove i hope you have a lot of fun!

KeziaOAP · 17/03/2017 07:55

I love enjoy your last day as much as you can, think of not having to rush off to work and all the leisurely gardening you'll be able to do xx

Ilovelblue · 17/03/2017 08:22

Thanks everyone. I actually had the presentation yesterday. I'll be back later! It's too frustrating typing on my phone.

Last journey to work......
