University Challenge, especially Monkman

Is it just me who thinks that Monkman, the captain of the Wolfson college, Cambridge, team is the best thing on TV?

I love Monkman , everyone in my family does.

Before bedtime my young kids stayed up to watch Monkman. They laughed so hard at his expression and said he looks angry - the furrowed brow.
He did try to smile though, and his answers were good.

He's Canadian so I'd be surprised if his mum was on MN.

I'm rooting for Team Monkman over Team Seagull. Bobby Seagull forfeited my support when he led his team to victory against Corpus Christi Oxford, which is the team the Gasp0de family supports. They are in the last chance saloon next week, fighting Balliol for the last semi-final place.

Disloyally, I have to say that if it came to a CCC vs Monkman Wolfson final, my loyalties would be very torn.

Agree, Monkman does look like a relative of Roy Cropper :)
Maybe Rudd will be on Only Connect at some point? There seems to be a bit of a natural progression from UC to OC at the moment.

Seagull is studying maths and plans to go into teaching. Somebody on twitter has suggested he'd be brilliant on TV as the next Johnny Ball. I agree!

Call me a saddo, but I'm really getting excited about the possibility of a Monkman / Seagull final. So much so that I'm planning to make it an occasion.
I'll get a nice bottle of wine in, some nibbles - and the phone will be unplugged. In my house it's going to be the televisual event of the year. Can't wait!

I've heard that our heroes, Monkman and Seagull, are up against each other in next week's semifinal.
So one of them will be knocked out in just a few days time.

So pleased that Monkman emerged victorious from the clash of the titans! DH was supporting Seagull because he is jealous of my Monkman worship.

My money is on a Monkman vs Goldman (captain of Balliol) final, with Monkman for the win.

That means that Balliol would have to beat Edinburgh in the second semi final next week. I don't get the Boyle thing, he reminds me of Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees. I prefer Pope, the Australian physicist on the Balliol team. But my heart still belongs to the magnificent Monkman. I decided tonight that his dress sense was inspired by John Craven, when he used to present Newsround in the early 1980s.

I think Seagull should do a maths show on TV for children. He gave up a career in the finance to teach. What a guy!

Re Seagull giving up his lucrative financial career to teach - so did DDs maths teacher. It's prob not as uncommon as you think. He probably saved enough money to do so!
