Is it just me who thinks that Monkman, the captain of the Wolfson college, Cambridge, team is the best thing on TV?

Yes Val was excellent, wasn't she? She does Round Britain Quiz on R4 and she's amazing

What you need to do is save it for Saturdays at 4pm. Warm up with Mastermind, get into your stride with UC, then get totally bamboozled by Only Connect.

That sounds like a brilliant combination actually - although I'm not enjoying Mastermind so much these days. John Humphreys is very dour and the contestants a bit, well, boring - compared to UC! I like the general knowledge rounds though

I've remembered who Bruno is. He's great - really cool.

And can I put a word in for Chaudhri? He really is Monkman's right-hand man, with superb knowledge.

I love it when Monkman barks "NOMINATE CHAUDHRI". 😂

It took me ages to come to terms with Only Connect moving to a Friday.

Bourdic · 06/02/2017 22:35

We record Only Connect on Friday and then watch it straighafter UC live on Monday only way to cope

MontalbanoFan · 06/02/2017 22:39

Good thinking, Bourdic.

Val McDiarmid and the fabulous Adele Geras wiped the floor with the opposition in the Christmas celebrity contest. Mary Archer didn't stand a chance!

Genius idea Bourdic I would be very tempted to watch OC over the weekend then impress my family with my incredible knowledge Wink

Mary Archer had been very good in her preliminary round and she looked very confident entering the final. Val McDairmud wiping the floor with her was one of my television highlights of the year!

I want to go down the pub with Sophie Rudd and Bobby Seagull. Monkman can come too, just to make up our pub quiz team

Report
KurriKurri · 10/02/2017 22:09

Oh I've found my home. I bloody love Monkman (MONKMAN !) and Seagull. (Also a soft spot for Edinburgh's Boyle) And Sophie Rudd is amazing - she knows everything - I love her.

And as for Val McDiarmid at Christmas - I was screeching 'Go Val' at the screen at the top of my voice. She's brilliant, if you needed someone to quiz for your life, you'd pick Val.

I'm also struggling to come to terms with them moving Only Connect. Monday night was quiz night in the Kurri house, and now it's been messed with. Angry

I put in my best ever Only Connect performance tonight.

I was yelling "Tonka beans!!!" at the top of my voice.

I think they heard me in the end.

Report
cowgirlsareforever · 10/02/2017 22:52

I was shouting "they're all beans' too. It took them forever to get that clue.

Rudd dropped a few clangers last night by jumping in too soon . . . but then completely redeemed herself with that triumphant "Fritz Lang!" at the very end.

So many sweet characters this series. The girl with the broken arm (forgotten her name, sorry) is another lovely contestant.

Davros · 21/02/2017 14:23

Good old Rudd. She was jumping in too soon a lot but obvs hoping to beat the others to the buzzer. What a finish!!

bookworm14 · 21/02/2017 14:26

I loved Rudd's triumphant finish last night, and her reaction! Hope Warwick win overall as they've been brilliant.

Rudd smashed it with the last gasp answer. Fantastic performance from her.

Report
KurriKurri · 22/02/2017 12:34

Rudd was brilliant - it was all or nothing that last question - so brave to jump in when she'd got it wrong a couple of times. Good for her Smile I was rooting for Warwick.
(Especially when Paxo had earlier allowed Bristol to waste several minutes working out their darts answers and getting them wrong.)

It was incredibly brave Kurri I was rooting for Warwick too.

Report
WateryTart · 22/02/2017 13:02

Rudd very nearly blew it last night. I'd have been so cross if she had. Too quick on the buzzer, she must calm down before the next round.

Warwick is my Alma Mater so I want them to win but if they can't then MONKMAN!

Good point well made Watery
Monkman is also a favourite of mine. There have been some excellent characters this series. I hope to see some of them on Only Connect when they're all grown up.

The applause in our sitting room when fabulous Sophie Rudd saved Warwick on Monday! She rules!

I felt a bit sorry for Thomsett, the clever bloke from Bristol, though. He is really clever but is always smiley and never gloats. Also, the other bloke on that team, Rolleston, is nice and was very gracious when Sophie buzzed in with a slightly wrong answer then he picked up the clue and got it right. He gave her an apologetic nod.

I do love the spirit in which UC is played. The attitude of the contestants could teach so-called sporting heroes a thing or two.
