I really enjoyed the book so looking forward to this. It's in 4 parts with Emily Watson playing the main character and Ben Chaplin as her lover. BBC1 9pm

Emily Watson is an amazing actress, it's all in the micro gestures and micro expressions. Haven't read the book so no idea which way the story goes. Wasn't expecting that violence at the end. Chilling.

The rape scene was horrific. I really felt for Yvonne. It was necessary to the story but horrible (as it should be).

The rape scene was horrendous and unexpected. The earlier sex scenes were curiously unsexy.

Why does someone have to be "lovely for their age"? Why can't simply be "lovely"?

Not read the book but enjoyed (until the last few mins) this episode. Although is the 007 guy supposed to be sexy? I found him very cringey/ stomach turning... particularly when he goes in for kisses. Shudder.

She is lovely for her age! What's wrong with saying that? I've never seen her in anything before and assumed she was younger than me, but she's a lot older.

There is an image used in this book.
A gorilla , holding its infant, is in a cage where the floor becomes roasting hot. At what point will the gorilla stand on the infants body to save itself? I.e. At what point would we throw our loved one 'under the bus', to save ourself? It's an image, perhaps in the book, or an author interview that really disturbed me.
I found this story so cruel, that concept so disturbing, I couldn't really 'enjoy' the book.
I don't remember the end exactly, but if that is a spoiler, I'm sorry, and please report.
