I really enjoyed the book so looking forward to this. It's in 4 parts with Emily Watson playing the main character and Ben Chaplin as her lover. BBC1 9pm

Good article about it here.

This is purely a guess, but BC was an ex policeman (I think). Don't they have their DNA on a database to rule out in crime scenes? So the DNA from his blood in Yvonne's car would have been a match.

NormaSmuff · 11/02/2017 08:07

a neighbour saw the car, well it was sat there for a while, so the police found the car, checked the CCTV and analysed the blood stains.

Gwenhwyfar · 11/02/2017 08:28

"What a crock of shite.

Not a single character had a redeeming quality. They were all selfish twats. "

Oh dear. I really liked Yvonne. Even Mark had some redeeming qualities in the way he tried to help her after the rape. The husband was unfaithful, but he supported his wife through a very embarrassing murder trial. There was also a good friend.

I thought it was a great programme and one of the grippiest dramas around at the moment. Maybe personal drama's not your thing?

hollyisalovelyname · 11/02/2017 09:13

Why was she arrested in the restaurant?
How did the police know she'd be there?

Cagliostro · 11/02/2017 09:36

I really liked it. I feel a bit bereft now, not sure what to watch (finished Unforgotten last night)

NormaSmuff · 11/02/2017 09:44

same here, feeling bereft

thisonehasalittlecar · 11/02/2017 20:20

Nope, not buying it. They couldn't have impounded the car before they arrested her, yet they have Mark in custody already when they're questioning her. And the blood in the car is (I'm assuming) George's, so even if they managed to do a full forensic sweep on the car, find the blood, and run a DNA test on it, there is still nothing to link her to Mark.

Another thing I was shouting at the telly, holly!

Nobody has replied to my question and I've asked it twice!!!Smile

Destinysdaughter · 12/02/2017 07:19

I think it was probably just for dramatic effect, it's pretty unlikely in real life!

Cel982 · 12/02/2017 08:19

Yeah, the speed and manner of her arrest was massively unlikely, I agree. Even a rush-job DNA test takes longer than that Smile

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/02/2017 11:10

Can someone explain why Mark's previous convictions/charges were brought up in court - I didn't think that was allowed until after the verdict.

NoProbLlama · 15/02/2017 07:40

Late to thread but ... I've just rewatched the ending and changed my mind.

First time I watched it, I thought Yvonne was horrified because she hadn't meant she wanted MrX to literally kill George. However, when you see the sly look on her face in the very last shot, she looks like she got exactly the outcome she wanted i.e. George deaded.

Ciutadella · 15/02/2017 08:25

I don't think she can have intended him to kill George can she - you wouldn't drive your hitman to the address in your own car with number plates registered to you and then sit and wait for the hitman and drive him away would you? If she'd intended him to kill George she would have gone about it in a different way I think.

ChicRock · 15/02/2017 09:54

But you've got to remember, she thought he was "a spook" so I think she thought it could all be done neat and tidy and some of his "spook" colleagues would come and clean away any evidence or he would go back and tidy up after it was done.

Ciutadella · 15/02/2017 10:03

Good point chic, though if thinking straight it might occur to you that spooks would be unlikely to drive up in broad daylight in their girlfriend's car to carry out the hit! But I suppose that may be part of the point - in that terrible position she was not thinking straight.

loinnir · 15/02/2017 12:40

Costley had been in the police. I thought he would have wanted to plan the " warning off" (or murder) a bit better in advance and clear up more successfully after.
