I really enjoyed the book so looking forward to this. It's in 4 parts with Emily Watson playing the main character and Ben Chaplin as her lover. BBC1 9pm

Good article about it here.

Well exactly. The fact that she got into a cab with him after the rape would be totally used against her in court. Rapidists often do things like this, walk someone home, get them a cab even make them breakfast!

She wouldn't have a hope in hell of getting a conviction for this. And men who rape know this...

I'm getting all itchy and impatient reading this thread: I'm used to binge watching box sets, not having to wait a week between episodes!

MrsBotox · 30/01/2017 14:41

Does XMan have a name? Von said George knew she was having sex with someone else but 'didn't know your name'. Does she know his name or is she so convinced he is a spook she accepts he can't ID himself? Who would hook up with someone and not ask for a name? Daft.

Blockbuster1 · 30/01/2017 14:47

Spooks can identify themselves. They are just given an alias employment.. (read the info on the Intelligence Service application site!)

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/01/2017 15:04

Why have they changed Yvonne's husbands name from Guy to Gary

Wonder if they shall reveal her lovers name

Blockbuster1 · 30/01/2017 15:25

There are 70 1* reviews on Amazon mainly saying it's a load of tosh. The X man is evidently called Mark.

PassTheCremeEggs · 30/01/2017 15:48

There are also 717 5* reviews though...

QueenoftheAndals · 30/01/2017 15:56

How many episodes are there? 3 or 4?

JakeBallardswife · 30/01/2017 16:02

I am a little confused by it. At times its really running quickly and others its really really slow. I don't understand why she hasn't told her husband or why she didn't go to Estonia with him if she's not currently working and if she's scared to run into George.

Delatron · 30/01/2017 16:10

Because he is shagging his student?

Though agree, I wouldn't have wanted to be in that house alone.

OreoHeaven · 30/01/2017 16:31

Watched Ep1 and 2 last night.

Throughout the introductory bits where she was going to a secluded part of a building with a stranger I couldn't help yell "what are you doing?!"

I did suspect George would try it on as they went to his office but I was absolutely not expecting that brutal rape. Horrific.

I have suspicions about BC. He's definitely not all he's making out to be. I think she has either been targeted and him and George are in cohoots or that BC is a serial affair instigator out to blackmail or something. The whole second phone and dummy camera is all a bit unnerving.

OreoHeaven · 30/01/2017 16:32

4 in total.

Letseatgrandma · 30/01/2017 16:38

I was thinking about this earlier. She seems to have been targeted for something which I can only think of is work-related as she's obviously high up in the genetic research field. George might want to get rid of her which is a motive, but would he really rape her to get her to leave work-that seems unlikely?

QueenoftheAndals · 30/01/2017 16:50

I wonder if the evidence she was giving in ep 1 is more important to the plot than we've been led to believe?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/01/2017 17:34

Just watched it- it was great!

GrumpyOldBag · 30/01/2017 17:36

Hmmmm. I now reckon the dummy camera in Apple Tree Years was a real camera and will turn out to be a crucial element in the plot - but don't know how ...

GrumpyOldBag · 30/01/2017 17:36

Yard not Years, obviously ...

rollonthesummer · 30/01/2017 17:41

Yes-that must be a real camera. I just can't see where it's all going!!

Dulra · 30/01/2017 18:20

Agree that shag in apple tree yard has to be significant they snagged loads of places so why continue to harp on about that one and name the book/drama after it Grin

minisausage · 30/01/2017 19:28

I feel like they were in cahoots as x had sex with her that night she got raped. Or george wasn't supposed to rape it wasn't part of their plan iyswim

minisausage · 30/01/2017 19:33

Also what has she done to her son? Her mother suffered MH, is this what's happening to her?

minisausage · 30/01/2017 19:34

BC is a figment of her imagination? Now My mind is really racing

Redlocks28 · 30/01/2017 21:11

I really enjoyed episode two-I have been thinking about it all day!

At the party, when she was sitting next to the rapist (texting x), she dropped something and a group of people laughed/cheered. Was that just because she dropped something or because she bent forward and they could see she had no knickers on??

OreoHeaven · 30/01/2017 21:50

Not uncommon to receive cheers when glasses/bottles/dishes crash or get knocked over.

Merlin40 · 30/01/2017 22:04

Did anyone just see the trailer shown on bbc1?
