So what are we supposed to do now.......................we had Tom Hardy screensaver of the week once. I may have to reinstigate that.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 26/02/2017 19:41

Sorry, we had that at my work.

OneWithTheForce · 26/02/2017 19:46

Whats in it for him? . Just freedom from prosecution ? The Americans want Nootka also dont they?

Well he also has the gun powder too. I'm wondering about the treaty. Will that stand up when he gets to America? Will he be recognised as the landowner? On the face of it I can't see how they can argue with it. But I guess there'll be many spanners thrown into those works.

Stuart strange sounds like a Ronald Dahl character Grin I thought his surname was Stuart.

Btw, the American doctor, he dipped his head in blue dye, then at the end it showed him suspended over a vat of red dye. But I couldn't tell if he had dipped his bottom Half into the dye. (So he was red, white and blue) Had he? It was what I expected but I couldn't tell.

Did we ever find out the nationalities of James & Zilphas mothers?

Laska5772 · 26/02/2017 20:11

I think JD's is native American (from Nootka) . I am not sure if Zilpha had the same mother , some thing tells me not.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 26/02/2017 20:12

so JD was working for the Americans all along anyway and killed the American doctor because he was a double agent ?

He wasn't working for anyone other than himself. He killed the American doctor because he betrayed JD.

James' mother was an American Indian from the Nootka tribe; Zilpha's mother isn't particularly relevant.

JamesDelaneysHat · 26/02/2017 20:15

Yes JD'S mother was called Salith or Salish, I think. She was from Nootka. Brace tried to refer to her as 'Anna' in an early episide but JD corrected him and gave her real name. We didn't learn much about Ziltha's mother but my impression was they definitely had different mothers.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 26/02/2017 21:01

Salish. I've just rewatched episodes 1 and 2. So many things I missed.

I did get the incest implications on first viewing but I missed that JD and Gregory recognised each other when JD is at the EIC. Also missed him burying the diamonds, getting the safe and then digging them up again.

JamesDelaneysHat · 26/02/2017 21:15

To be fair, it was all a bit confusing in the early episodes. To say the least.

springydaffs · 26/02/2017 21:28

I am ashamed at how much I missed bcs I was shielding my eyes from the brutality. =80% of the thing.

Zilpha began to swim up. She'll be back. That's my nugget of wisdom in amongst you clever clogs.

Completely captivated by this. Red in tooth and claw. Utterly gorgeous cinematography.

JD cut open DR stomach when he was hanging there

wineusuallyhelps · 26/02/2017 21:41

Does anyone know why they're going to the Azores and not America? Didn't understand that bit.

CremeEggThief · 26/02/2017 21:49

Brilliant episode last night.

I hope the chemist pulls through.

Charley50 · 26/02/2017 21:52

Me too Creme I love the chemist.

diddl · 26/02/2017 21:53

I'm sure that they have different mothers.

Was it said at one point a "Malay" for Zilpha's mother?

I only wonder as she looks as if she could have non white blood, whereas him, not so much!

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 26/02/2017 21:57

Does anyone know why they're going to the Azores and not America? Didn't understand that bit

The Azores is mentioned in the 2nd episode when he visits Dumbarton for the first time.

JD mentions Colonay sent him and Dumbarton says "so not yet in hell?"

JD replies "no, Ponta Delgado in the Azores"

wineusuallyhelps · 26/02/2017 22:01

Aha lass, I see! Thanks.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 26/02/2017 22:26

Having said that I'm not sure who Colonay is other than something to do with American spy network and why JD wants to see him.

PassTheCremeEggs · 26/02/2017 22:29

I think Zilpha is dead. The swimming up bit came as part of James' vision of her - her "singing" to him. I think the image of her swimming up was to show her meeting him in the water - representing him hearing her singing. If that makes any sense at all... After that bit where she swam, the shot was of her definitely drowned. I think that was the moment he knew she was dead.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 26/02/2017 23:12

Bloody hell.

I've just googled him in Wuthering Heights. I can see why he would want to do Taboo as a vanity project to erase the memory of that terrible wig.

UnGoogleable · 26/02/2017 23:17

Ooh loved it, the cinematography ( is that the right word?) was absolutely beautiful. Whoever said each scene looked like a renaissance painting was absolutely spot on.

I think Zilpha is dead and I don't care cos I don't like her because he kept saying she wasn't dead because he hadn't heard her... and then there was the scene of them meeting in the water, so that was him 'hearing' her, and then he accepted she was dead and cried.

And Lorna basically said 'get over yourself, you've got us all into this mess now pull yourself together'. Love her little half smiles, she's fab.

DumbledoresArmy · 27/02/2017 08:56

Was anyone else really hoping JD got it on with Lorna?

Really sweet the scene when he placed his hand on her.
Interesting as he really didn't show affection to anyone other than Zilpha.
Tbf though Lorna did do him proud, which he will know.

But will it be a relationship like mother/son?

nightswimming1 · 27/02/2017 12:46

I was - the fact he warned Cholmondeley off was a bit promising but then the trail went cold.
Still love the memory of "take that fucking dress off" Blush

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 27/02/2017 12:54

Was it said at one point a "Malay" for Zilpha's mother?

No, it was either in relation to one of the many people wanting to kill him and/or Winter.

I'm sure that they have different mothers
.
Zilpha said he was her half brother and they must have the same father , not mother, for Geary to have expected Zilpha to get anything out of Delaynay snr's estate. I don't think Zilpha's mother was mentioned.
