My telly is too small to see faces properly so I'd didn't realise therapist woman was wig lady until it unravelled.

braceybracegirl · 08/01/2017 22:43

Oh I see thank you. Who is Sherringford?

Scorbus · 08/01/2017 22:43

Sherringford was not strictly in the original Sherlock books although alluded to. Sherringford was the name Sherlock was going to be called by ACD.

Gallavich · 08/01/2017 22:44

Yesss that was great. Back on form! Cumbersnatch is brilliant, and freeman is getting really sexy in his middle age. Euros is Sheerinford then. Just fast paced enough to need a couple more watches to pick it all up, as Sherlock should be.

CaveMum · 08/01/2017 22:44

Here's some info on the actress, Sian Brooke:

Sherlock acknowledged Mary when they left, and that made it ludicrous. If dead people can just drop by for a chat Moriarty and Magnussen may as well drop in for lunch next week.

CaveMum · 08/01/2017 22:46

A thought has occurred to me: at the end of Series 3 Mycroft says "an East wind is blowing" (or similar) Was that just Gatiss/Moffat dropping a hint or was it a deliberate code warning between Mycroft and Sherlock?

I KNEW Sherrinford was going to be female!

Didn't know it was going to be bus lady / fake therapist mind. But it was obvious that something was up, because no therapist casually asks after a patient's friends and family like that.

Great episode. Felt more like one of those case-based episodes from s1-2. Obviously highly influenced by Savile - hiding in plain sight, keys to the hospital, staff knew what he was up to, favourite room was the morgue. Quite chillingly close, actually. And not a reference that will be picked up by viewers outside the UK, I expect.

Liked Mary loads more now she's dead. The way she provided clarity to John was kind of a narrative cliche but quite fun to watch.

CalmItKermitt · 08/01/2017 22:47

He was acknowledging that Watson was still acknowledging her.

Clawdy · 08/01/2017 22:48

Confused here - only two of the actresses were the same surely? Wasn't the therapist disguising herself as Toby's daughter, and also the bus girl? She couldn't have been Toby's real daughter as well. Not as she is Sherlock's sister!

HeyRoly · 08/01/2017 22:48

I took that to mean that Sherlock knew that John was "seeing" Mary (John spoke directly to "Mary" during that scene after all) not that Sherlock himself could also see Mary. He obviously couldn't.

CaveMum · 08/01/2017 22:49

Exactly, John was talking as if Mary was in the room ("I cheated on YOU", not "I cheated on HER"). Sherlock was just acknowledging that, and the hat thing has been a running joke for a long time ("You're Sherlock Holmes: wear the damn hat!").

OP posts:
CaveMum · 08/01/2017 22:52

Clawdy, but "the therapist" was a disguise as well - she took out contact lenses to "reveal" herself. She wasn't the real daughter, she just disguised herself to look enough like her to convince the smacked up Sherlock.

As a side note - bloody loved Mrs H in tonight's ep. Brilliant 😄

reader77 · 08/01/2017 22:54

Mrs Hudson was brilliant!

I loved it, much better than last week.

MayhemandMadness01 · 08/01/2017 22:58

Wondering why the text came through? If John didn't know it was his birthday then how would Irene Adler? Could she have been told by Sherringford?

EsmesBees · 08/01/2017 22:58

How long was the real therapist meant to have been in the airing cupboard? Surely her other patients etc would be missing her or the neighbours notice a stranger letting themselves in?

Otherwise, a much better episode. Also prefer Mary now she's dead. Loved the Irene mention.

PandasRock · 08/01/2017 22:59

Even high as a kite (and then some) there is no way Sherlock could have spent a whole evening with his sister and not known it was her (or not suspected something was very wrong with the woman at the least).

Sure, she had contacts in, and spoke in a different accent, but really?! Not noticing the disguise, not noticing his own relative, when he was able to notice and control so many other thing said while off his face?

Bollocks.

CaveMum · 08/01/2017 22:59

I think the suggestion us that either Sherlock is very close to Irene Adler, or she's smart enough to have found the information for herself.

braceybracegirl · 08/01/2017 22:59

Poor dead therapist.

CaveMum · 08/01/2017 23:00

And yes, Mrs Hudson was a total badass!

OP posts:
HeyRoly · 08/01/2017 23:00

I bet Irene somehow figured out when it was Sherlock's birthday and texts him once a year. It was her style, always asking him out for dinner, which he'd ignore. It's funny that it's still going on. Little bit of harmless fan service.

Mrs Hudson is what the kids call a BAMF.

EATmum · 08/01/2017 23:01

Absolutely. Mrs H is the best.

If the fake Toby's daughter left that piece of paper with Sherlock - how did she get hold of it??
