19 kids and counting / safety

Followed Sue and Noel Radford and family on our tv programmes & see they have a new show on tomorrow (29/12/16).

Something I don't get is child safety in this and other larger families.

I mean I had 3 under 7 and I watch 2.5y old all the time, even when he is in older siblings room as there's bunk beds etc and even dressing up clothes can be dangerous

I know the Radford's have super high bunk beds and they always have around 4 kids under 6y I wonder how they supervise them? Or do you think kids like these and in other larger families are in hospital much more often ?

I was from a large family (nowhere near as big though!) And we definitely had more than the average number of a and e visits. I never really thought about it till now though.

I think the older children spend a large amount of time supervising the younger ones tbh

I thought about this also. I read a news arrival a few years back when they probably had a few less children, and they were flying somewhere hot on holiday. How can you get 15+ children through an airport? How can two adults safely watch that many children in a swimming pool? Assuming a child born every year roughly that's 7-8 children under the age of 8years who would all need good supervision around water

Also, I would loose the will to live making food. 20 breakfasts, lunches etc day in day out. Even 20 bowls of weetabix takes a while to sort out

Kind of makes me wonder how larger families do avoid nasty incidents. Is it pure luck?!

I mean even if the kids hardly leave the house sill probably have to cross the road to get to ther school every day with 5-6 kids that's dangerous with just Noel? Isn't it?

And then all the times there is just one adult supervising lots of children. Lots of household things are dangerous like even kids nail varnish if a toddler gets it, or a school uniform belt. Etc

One of the older girls (Chloe I think) helps pick up/ drop off the younger kids at school, so there's 2 adults. So yeah, I guess mainly the older ones supervise the younger ones.

I am ....how on earth have they afforded a trip to Australia? I would presume programme makers have paid?

I was thinking the exact same thing…the mind boggles!

Not at all knocking them & great that they have their own business, but does that bakery really make enough for the family to live on??

They are fascinating in a strange kind of way - kind of in awe, kind of shaking my head at the idea of so many blooming littles!

Oh my days. They're all flying to Brisbane. That's 19 lots of ultra jetlag.

Does any one know why this is on and not the guy martin programe

And 22 hours on a plane with 17 of your own children. Or possibly worse ... 17 of another family's children rocks silently

Anyone else think a show about 24hr in their house and interviews with friends family kids would be more interesting?

I'd like to know how

• they manage on virtually no sleep
• when both adults have down time
• how they manage 12 lots of homework
• what sport/ music activities kids do
• how they manage parties and play dates

The kids don't seem keen on new babies though. They seem a bit more candid tonight than previous programmes with a he vasectomy talk etc

The bakery probably makes them 30k if that based on friends who have similar business

Watching. This now and think it's chaos, but at the same time I'm always surprised by how well they seem to manage.

My best friend was one of 8 and there were lots more accidents from being unattended than a smaller family. Inevitable really isn't it?

I am in awe. But also a bit jealous! how do they afford it?? Makes me broody but we are stopping at 2 as we can't really afford more (money, house space, car size, any possibility of holidays, support etc)

I can't help but think it's selfish, the older kids are essentially parenting the younger ones so the parents can coo over new babies.

Lol at the oz family - knew they'd be religious and the radfirds look a little awkward with it!

I really think they could both do with having therapy rather than another child.

They could both do with sterilisation, not another child. It's an addiction, like alcohol and drugs. How on earth are they going to afford going to Australia?

They want baby number 20!
