Hi
Followed Sue and Noel Radford and family on our tv programmes & see they have a new show on tomorrow (29/12/16).

Something I don't get is child safety in this and other larger families.

I mean I had 3 under 7 and I watch 2.5y old all the time, even when he is in older siblings room as there's bunk beds etc and even dressing up clothes can be dangerous

I know the Radford's have super high bunk beds and they always have around 4 kids under 6y I wonder how they supervise them? Or do you think kids like these and in other larger families are in hospital much more often ?

I like the programme but have similar questions - especially about finances! I remember the wedding and all the trappings, the bride's dress, all the kids decked out in bridal wear...........and then dad was messing about with a calculator in the shop getting the boy's clothes! And yes Sue always looks like she's had 12 hours sleep and spends half her life in the hairdressers! And how DO they afford to go to Oz. Sorry I haven't read all the thread.

Thing is though we need to remember that there will be days on end of filming and then edited. I know a family who were part of the "Child of our Time" series and the TV cameras used to arrived at 7.00 a.m. and film right through till the kids went to bed about 8.00 p.m. and that was just for a clip of them maybe lasting 5 mins at the most. The family got fed up of all the filming as it took over their life. SO we won't see Sue looking groggy and tired and the house in chaos.

Just seen Sue's C'Mas present was a new car - NOT on a baker's wage with all those kids. Has to be paid for by TV. Not that I'm bothered.
Good luck to them.

There are 2 more big families - one who are mormons I think and have an incredibly out of control child (well at least one) and the other one have god knows how many daughters (maybe 10) and 1 boy I think. I like the dad in that one but the mom is irritating. One of the girls has a baby "Dolly" and she gets passed around all the girls.

TheHiphopopotamus · 30/12/2016 14:55

Yes but it wouldn't just be the income from the bakery would it? There's child benefit which is nearly a £1000 per month plus with all those kids they'd still be able to claim tax credits.

That's all dependent on how much the bakery makes obviously.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/12/2016 15:02

Some people just don't look tired, my sister in law being one of them. I look wrecked if I'm up just once in the night, I do NOT cope with tiredness well at all.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/12/2016 15:03

The Australian mum was a bit rude about the kangaroo pie gift, clearly not 'traditionally' polite then?Hmm

I agree about Sue.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/12/2016 15:12

Yes I get that about Sue, she could have slight learning difficulties, she seems almost child like and immature in her manner. Yes the Australian family were very rude, they did not come across very well.

Cagliostro · 30/12/2016 15:17

I thought that too! Poor Noel with his rejected pie.

BBCNewsRave · 30/12/2016 15:19

Dame The Australian mum was a bit rude about the kangaroo pie gift

Yes! And saying "we don't eat Skippy" but it's not like they're vegetarian or anything! It's perfectly normal to eat kangaroo in Austraila AFAIK.

Oz family seemed much more organised though. Although their chore list was a bit Hmm - it said something like "Mum's evening chores - wash, dry and iron clothes... Dad's evening chores - watch xyz TV show".

I think Noel is just fucked up rather than creepy in a predatory sort of way, even with the age gap. Still, legally very very dodgy.

Muppetslikecoco · 30/12/2016 15:20

I also thought the other family where very rude about the pie but I wonder if it was a culture thing. The Aussie mum said something about not usually putting Joey in a pie and I think maybe it was a bit like if someone gave a UK family a dog pie.

ThisSeason · 30/12/2016 15:34

No way they paid for the Oz trip. That would have been C4 / the production company.

Muppetslikecoco · 30/12/2016 15:35

X post with Cross that's my theory out the window then. I guess they were just very rude.

Muppetslikecoco · 30/12/2016 15:36

I meant BBC not cross. Got a bit muddled.

balence49 · 30/12/2016 15:45

Is this on catchup anywhere?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/12/2016 15:46

Yes it is.

BikeRunSki · 30/12/2016 15:50

It's on 4OD
The Oz trip was surely paid for by the TV company.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/12/2016 15:50

I think professionals need to intervene and insist they go to therapy as they really need it. To them, this child making is like a game, they do not understand or grasp the seriousness of it! The impact it is having on their other children. Even the middle to older children has a good grasp of it all, a few of them said that they did not want big families. They seem very dowtrodden somehow. Sue said a couple of programmes that she was addicted to babies, yeh no shit! Like any other addiction, they need professional help.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/12/2016 15:52

Who do you think will intervene and insist they have therapy?

Aeroflotgirl · 30/12/2016 15:55

They need SS involvement.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/12/2016 15:56

I can think of plenty of families who need involvement, they aren't one of them imo.

Wolverbamptonwanderer · 30/12/2016 15:57

Eh? You're allowed to have as many children you like without intervention. This isn't China

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 30/12/2016 16:00

Yes, quite.

Greenteandchives · 30/12/2016 16:07

2shoes Guy Martin, who was supposed to be on C4 last night, did his ankle in on the first day of his bike ride, so the programme never got made AFAIK.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 30/12/2016 16:19

I think taking a handle off a kids door, effectively locking them in is horrible. I have nothing against big families but something is off here imo.

BobbieDog · 30/12/2016 16:46

They are nowhere to be found on the companies house. Their bakery is called faradays sandwich and pie shop which again is none existent on the companies house.
