After watching worst tv of the 90's on five I was having a quick google of worse tv ever and one show universally panned was one I loved- called 'out of this world' 80's sitcom about a girl whose half alien and another one me and my sister remember but no one else about a ghost haunting a family that had moved into her house after she'd choked on a chicken bone.
What ransoms do you remember?

This popped into my head earlier when I heard a song on the radio.

A duck with Bolton accent
who might have been a failed pop star or DJ and then it would cut to a dream sequence of him being famous on TOTP singing whatever song was big at the time
Does anyone remember this? Is it real?

SalopianGirl · 05/12/2016 17:13

Does anyone remember Cover Up ? It was on in the mid 80's, the theme tune was Holding Out For A Hero. It was about a police detective who went undercover as a male model. However it only ran for one series as the main actor was messing about with a gun prop between takes, jokingly put it to his head and pulled the trigger, something came loose and he was killed! Absolutely awful.

SophieGiroux · 05/12/2016 17:36

I remember Carnal Knowledge, 'twas hilarious. Does anyone remember Pleasure Island? Was about swingers going abroad shagging about (usually old people!).
I used to love Get Stuffed, the late night 5 min cookery show. There's loads on YouTube.
I also remember Sitting Pretty "phenomenal" was the catchphrase I think!!

TheLegendOfBeans · 05/12/2016 17:39

Softly Softly
The Likely Lads
The Liver Birds

DramaInPyjamas · 05/12/2016 19:09

Just searched Dooby Duck on YouTube , yes it was him !
I had been googling things like Bolton TV Duck, totp duck, famous DJ duck, and coming up with nothing Grin- driving myself mad thinking I had made him up!

We didn't half watch some shite when we were young! Grin

SpeckledyBanana · 05/12/2016 19:10

I'll be back after bedtime to see if anyone else remembers Dusty Cushion.

DramaInPyjamas · 05/12/2016 19:22

I remember watching Carnal Knowledge as well, despite only being about 13 at the time.
In fact My vast knowledge of sex and issues at that age came from sneakily watching late night channel 4!
Eurotrash, The Girlie Show, The Word, Pyjama Party, Naked Elvis,

Isitjustmeorisiteveryoneelse · 05/12/2016 19:31

Thirtysomething

Sapphire and Steel

Triangle

Triangle is a BBC Television soap opera broadcast in the early 1980s, set aboard a North Sea ferry which sailed from Felixstowe to Gothenburg and Gothenburg to Amsterdam. A third imaginary leg existed between Amsterdam and Felixstowe to justify the programme title, but this was not operated by the ferry company - now that's random!!

The80sweregreat · 05/12/2016 19:39

Larry lamb was in Triangle and Kate o mara!

Autumnchill · 05/12/2016 20:03

I use to love Howard's Way, so much so I learnt to play it on the piano Grin

morningtoncrescent62 · 05/12/2016 20:13

Sapphire and Steel

Ooh, yes, that was so creepy. Loved the theme music.. transuranics? What are they? It sounded good anyway!

Haven't RTFT but has anyone mentioned the Kids from 47A? And what about Pauline's Quirks, the teen-magazine programme fronted of course by PQ? She did an item once on school uniform which had included a survey in Look-In (anyone remember that?) - it was about girls being allowed to wear trousers to school, and she made the point about boys being allowed to wear skirts as well. First time I'd heard someone seriously suggest this and it stayed with me!

TheTartOfAsgard · 05/12/2016 20:32

Also remember going to my nans for Sunday dinner and having to watch Jesus of Nazareth every week. Seems like it was on for years but was probably only a few weeks.

morningtoncrescent62 · 05/12/2016 20:32

Ah, RTFT now, and so many memories.

Tomorrow People - yy
Timeslip - yyyy
Children of the Stones - too creepy!
Big John, Little John - yes, I can also still sing the theme tune
Agony - ditto theme tune
Armchair Thriller - that was brilliant. The little Scottish girl was in a serial called Rachel in Danger and I remember being mesmerized by it. The one in the convent school was Quiet as a Nun, featuring a nun with no face - gave me the heebie-jeebies!

Anyone remember:

The Ghosts of Motley Hall
Edward the Seventh (with Annette Crosbie as Queen Victoria)
Angels (about student nurses)

There was a daytime programme on one summer early 90s which I watched when DDs were small. It was Australian, about a family from a distant star, where the youngest child was in charge and known as 'family organiser'. The older sister was called Estrella but I don't remember any other names.

BringMeTea · 05/12/2016 20:42

Mornington Crescent I had no memory of Armchair Thriller being multi-episodes. Bonkers. I might try and find those 2 on youtube.

JustDanceAddict · 05/12/2016 21:02

Loved Saphire and Steel. I was about 7 when that was on.
Has anyone mentioned The Wonderyears? American show set in the 50s I think & was in early 90s.

MichaelBuble · 05/12/2016 21:04

MagicalMrs you have made my night!

jmszel · 05/12/2016 21:23

I loved the brittas empire, you rang m'lord, the new statesman. I watched loads of weird things no one else in my classes had ever seen! David the gnome was another childhood favorite, I now own the box set :)

ghostspirit · 05/12/2016 21:32

theluckiest · 05/12/2016 21:33

So many blasts from the past!! My mum bought me a dodgy Dvd version of 'Children of Green Knowe' Tis still ace.

Moondial.
The Cuckoo Sister
Brushstrokes on a Mon eve
Dear John ('Any sexual problems?')
Silas (well dodgy dubbed prog)
Robin of Sherwood (deep, hopeless preteen crush on Michael Praed)

Manimal - about a feller who could turn into any animal. Except the animals in the credits looked amazing but he only ever turned into a panther in the actual thing. Shite. But good.

Wonder what our kids will look back on with fondness? My vote goes to 'Horrible Histories' for my lot.

theluckiest · 05/12/2016 21:36

Also, does anyone remember a late night Friday back from the pub programme called 'Who Do You Do?'

Was an absolute sack of shit and totally brilliantly awful. Consisted of terrible impressionists & presented by Mike Reid (comedian, not 80s funster) whose catchphrase was 'Look at the sign, it's after nine' when things got a little risqué.

Or I may have been drunk and dreamed it all...

formerbabe · 05/12/2016 21:41

I loved the brittas empire, you rang m'lord

You sound like me! Thought I was the only one who loved 'you rang m'lord'!

OllyBJolly · 05/12/2016 21:44

Byker Grove! Used to watch that in preparation for a house move to Newcastle. Loved it!

Loving this thread... so many memories. I do remember Who do you do? It was a bit like The Comedians with mainly has been acts doing impressions.

And Jokers' Wild - anyone remember that?

What about Ask The Family - questions divided into easy "Mother and younger children only" and hard "Father and oldest child"
