As part 3 is full.

I'm having a day off due to illness, so am planning a re-watch from the beginning as have got used to the time switches that confused me at first. Quite looking forward to it - will pay extra attention to all things yellow, legs in fireplaces and anything else that you suggest. Probably cover my eyes at the drilla moment again though!

ewan and fiderer I watched Ep 1 last night again looking for clues. I have a nasty cold so am planning to make my excuses at work and go home to re-watch as much as I can today before tonight's finale [big grin]. I specifically looked for Driller's role in various scenes and the nuances I would have missed first time round. The man by the door in the hospital scene where she is asked whether her abductor spoke with an accent and she replies German is out of focus, but I am sure he was wearing a red cap and therefore military police, and not Driller. I can't remember now who asked the question, Eve or the man. Eve was certainly the one asking the questions. By the time episode 1 ended Driller had not once been in the same room as Sophie.
I have not seen any sign that Sam is involved. I think all his reactions are the entirely normal reactions of a father. The only potentially off thing is that as soon as Sophie sees him she is very quick to say "hello Dad". She says this straight away, he being the first person she sees when she opens her eyes. As Sophie she wouldn't be entirely sure what her father looks like and I would have expected a bit of hesitation (but then again he does have WEBSTER sewn onto his army pocket flap so maybe this is how she knew he was definitely Dad).

Fiderer · 30/11/2016 10:09

dreamsheep You're right, just re-watched and it doesn't look or sound like him. Was another army man in a red beret.

Sophie does wait a beat before answering, "He was German."

ewanthedreamsheep · 30/11/2016 10:12

yeah I was fairly sure as I was particularly watching out for him.

Fiderer · 30/11/2016 10:39

Eve asked if he spoke English and BeretMan asked about the accent. Presumably to rule out any involvement by British Army personnel.

MargotLovedTom · 30/11/2016 10:40

Cheers Lillian.

I hope it's not going to be an almighty letdown tonight. I also hope there's some resolution for poor Jorn, and he can at last RIP.

Fiderer · 30/11/2016 10:46

Re-watching that scene in the hospital I wasn't only wrong about Gettrick being there.

Also about Baptiste making the Sophie link and the paramedics perhaps not having passed it on. Eve asks her about Sophie, that she had said in the ambulance to call her. Sophie say how weak she was and that she'd told 'Sophie' she'd go back for her.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 30/11/2016 11:00

Webster, web tattoo, 'liked spiders', metal spider (pendant?) in the opening credits.

Significant, or simply to build atmosphere of the web of events?

LillianGish · 30/11/2016 11:14

Sophie drops lots of clues and hints when she comes back as Alice. I don't think Eve is involved as she one who calls Julien. I think she is misdirected by her own father and because he is her father and she is close to him she doesn't see this at all. She cannot even come close to thinking he might be involved - she thinks Julien is not seeing straight because of his brain tumour, but it is she who is not seeing straight. I've said this before, but I'll say it again - I think Sophie is the favoured on because she is his girl and and Lucy is his child. I think Alice was the Brig's girl. I think Lena may have been Reed's girl - no coincidence they both died at the same time (assuming she is body in shed).

MillieMoodle · 30/11/2016 11:50

Yay it's Wednesday!

I don't think Eve is involved. I think (apart from the affair with Sam) she's a nice person. She had a baby for her sister, she called Baptiste's wife when he was arrested as I think she was genuinely worried about him. She told the police that she didn't think Baptiste was capable of hurting her father. She didn't make a fuss when Matthew pushed her over when heavily pregnant. I think she's used to keeping her head down and getting on with it.

The preview bit for today, shown last week, shows Eve looking at a computer screen and she seems to be realising something, so I wonder whether she's listening to Jorn's cd and it has something interesting on it? When he was making the cd at the beginning of episode 5, the recording stuff kept on running when he took a phonecall. I wonder if it recorded anything which incriminates anyone.

hollyisalovelyname · 30/11/2016 11:53

I just hope it is a satisfactory ending for all of us who have invested so much time in the programme.

Tableforjuan · 30/11/2016 11:56

Have rewatched a few extracts as am 'working' from home today.

Layout of Gettrick's house is as follows: Upstairs door on right is unlocked pink room with Mr Scribbles - likely Lucy's room which she is allowed to leave freely when she interrupts Jorn in ep5 (2016). Upstairs door on left is heavily locked blue room -Sophie's room, though Lucy also in there in ep 6 (2015). Basement - hidden lair with yellow padlock which Gettrick pocketed in Iraq- presumably Alice's room but this raises questions around "me and mummy in the basement" as we know Lucy calls Sophie "mummy". Could Alice have been the previous favourite upstairs 'when she used to behave'?

Also clear from her expressions that Sophie is just playing along and hates Gettrick. Not sure how she feels about Alice- looks like they were getting along at theme park and must have spent a lot of time together for Sophie to learn about Alice's life.

hollyisalovelyname · 30/11/2016 13:37

Will the Swiss butcher reappear as he seems intrigued with Sophie.

ewanthedreamsheep · 30/11/2016 13:44

I don't think Reed was involved. He was disgusted that Drilla slept with the 13y/o in Iraq and we know his tastes lie elsewhere (Ilsa). I think his help was sought as a Dr, then he was killed because he knew too much.
Stone, I can't quite figure out. I don't think he's in on the abduction with Drilla, but then i can't explain the turtle story. I think that he maybe believed that she was really Alice, and maybe the conversation related to something that happened before Alice was abducted.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/11/2016 13:46

i dont think sam is guilty/in on it

i still think stone isnt as guilty as others think he is but does seem weird hes aok in 2014 and yet 2yrs later totally living in the past/incontinent etc, what/why made him go downhill so fast

yes weird eve/sister mum isnt mentioned at all, and wasnt there something about her birth that he couldnt rem, so is eve actually stones dd?

cant wait till tomorrow and can watch :)

dArtagnansCrumpet · 30/11/2016 13:50

I think brig has to be involved somewhere. When he was on about the turtle story and she said after what you've done. Gettrick must have told her about Iraq and the way he barely flinched when she said it. Surely hed think that was an odd comment from someone he had no prior connection with

ewanthedreamsheep · 30/11/2016 14:01

But i do think he has a connection with Alice, prior to the abduction. The way he speaks about her, he definitely knows her.

Elendon · 30/11/2016 14:10

Less than 7 hours and counting. Smile

Brig Stone is going to be exposed I think, not as a murderer but an accomplice and an abuser, though given his current medical condition, nothing will be done. I do hope Eve keeps the baby and doesn't do anything rash on finding out about her dad.

youngestisapsycho · 30/11/2016 14:20

Cant wait for tonight... I'm still a bit confused by some things though...
If Drilla likes young teenage girls, would he keep them this long, now they are 10 years older? Why keep Alice locked up and hidden away, would it not be easier to just get rid of her?

dArtagnansCrumpet · 30/11/2016 14:22

So many possibilities! Maybe the brig and Gettrick groomed the girls. Maybe brig killed Lena hence after what you've done. Or or maybe brig killed henry after he tried to help the girls escape and Sophie put flowers on his grave for that reason!

dArtagnansCrumpet · 30/11/2016 14:24

Maybe Lena got too old and she was killed? Sophie might know this and is plotting escape.

BeyondTheHarpy · 30/11/2016 14:34

Marking my place ready for tonight's post showing autopsy Grin

MillieMoodle · 30/11/2016 14:37

Have re-watched episode 7 today and Sophie definitely clams up when Gettrick touches her. She's clearly scared of him and the change in her demeanour from when she cuddles lucy to when she hugs him is more noticeable this time I've watched it.

I think she's biding her time until she can escape with Lucy. Maybe she was hoping that in 2014 she'd dropped enough clues that someone would come looking for them. Not sure how she feels about Alice though, I can't work out whether she hates her, likes her or is completely indifferent.

SapphireStrange · 30/11/2016 14:38

I can't watch tonight as DP is out and I have to wait for him to watch it.

Must NOT come back on here until I've seen it!

The comment about 'what we did to that girl' refers to the Iraqi girl, not Lena, I think; but I still don't know quite what happened to Lena, except that I'm sure it was her (already dead) body in the shed. The DNA test must have been faked/swapped.

I think the Brig is absolutely in on it. I'm just not sure how much of his dementia is real and how much he's faking; but he IS faking some of it.

MillieMoodle · 30/11/2016 14:46

Sapphire how can he go out on a Wednesday?!! Utter madness.

I agree I think Brig doesn't have the level of memory loss he appears to have. Also think he's involved somehow. He didn't seem to be overly shocked or bothered that Gettrick had been sleeping with a 13 year old in Iraq. He was more concerned that they should rescue "one of our own" regardless of what Gettrick had done. I think he was involved in the original investigation into Alice's disappearance. Maybe he discovered something which he kept quiet.

I absolutely cannot wait for tonight. DH will be banished from the room. He's refused to watch it with me so far and I'm not having him trying to watch tonight and asking silly questions.

SapphireStrange · 30/11/2016 14:48

Millie, one of his friends has the temerity to have a birthday today and is having a gathering.

Maybe he discovered something which he kept quiet. Yes, I agree; the original investigation reeks of cover-up.
