As part 3 is full.

I'm having a day off due to illness, so am planning a re-watch from the beginning as have got used to the time switches that confused me at first. Quite looking forward to it - will pay extra attention to all things yellow, legs in fireplaces and anything else that you suggest. Probably cover my eyes at the drilla moment again though!

We don't know who (if anyone) died in the shed. The person found dead in there may have been dead before the fire.

Lena looks most likely, subject to resolution of the puzzle about the reported DNA match to Sam.

Fiderer · 25/11/2016 10:55

I still think it's Lena, too convenient that she dies just as Sophie had to go to hospital. Reckon Gettrick strangled her.

YY to the poster saying the timescale is v short.

How did Gettrick get hold of Herz's lost camera? And know the last few numbers of the card used on the receipt that led them to Herz?

LarkDescending · 25/11/2016 10:57

NB on Lena's missing person profile there were details of her mother, not father. Jorn contacted her mother. We don't (I think) know anything about Lena's father.

Moodybuggle · 25/11/2016 11:20

Place marking - I thought it was strange you'd all gone silent when I kept looking to the "I'm on" threads for new updates

Dulra · 25/11/2016 11:21

Fiderer Herz lost his camera and it got posted back so dk could easily have stolen it took picture and then posted it back. It is also easy enough nowadays to skim people's credit cards

spangles06 · 25/11/2016 11:39

I think I saw a brief glimpse of Sam doing the nervous finger thing like Sophie. Did anyone else spot this? Could he be her dad too making Sophie and Alice half sisters?!
Also- Wasn't there a comment that Sam hadn't been around when Alice was born? Could he have been in Paris at that time getting friendly with Madame girroud

Now I'm obviously speculating wildly here but DNA in shed matched Sam too. Assuming no switching gone on, that'd potentially make him Lena's father as well. 'Too many babies' was Brig's quote---- all belonging to serial shagger Sam perhaps

Dunno how drilla would know all that though to capture those three girls

PeppermintInfusion · 25/11/2016 11:41

I don't think Eve is badly involved but thay she is either a victim and/or witnessed Getterick's depravity as a child which she suddenly realised. Reid said the Iraqi girl was just a couple of years older than Eve when they discovered where Getterick was so she was the right age to be in his target range.
I think Sam was there at the same time, not necessarily involved in this instance but as Hersch said, she wasn't in control. Also she had slept with at least one of them, and her interest in kinky sex meant she may have seen what he was capable of and it was fuel for them blackmail her or her to keep quiet for fear of blackmail.
I think the scene in Iraq exposed their different moralities- for Reid it was clear cut, for the Brig it was about looking after one of your own which was how they dealt with it in subsequent years.
A lot of it comes down to 'open secrets' and turning a blind eye, which meant Getterick could go unchecked for years- its a small town and an army base people know other people's business even if he kept to himself.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 25/11/2016 11:43

I posted on the last thread that I think that there could be another connection between Driller and Brig - what if the creepy/abusive uncle who left Driller the cabin was the brother of Brig's wife? So he's protecting a family (abuse) situation, and the Army is actually incidental?

(both Army careers and the perpetuation of abuse can run in families)

Also, wondering why Switzerland. Property ownership by foreigners is so heavily regulated as to be close to impossible. Were the uncle and siblings Swiss? And Francophone? Is Vaaran in a French speaking Canton?

PeppermintInfusion · 25/11/2016 11:44

Also I'm pretty sure it was Getterick who told Eve about the DNA when she had been distracted, so it was maybe taken at face value without anyone else actually seeing the paperwork

LarkDescending · 25/11/2016 12:02

Perhaps Switzerland is just because it's beautiful. The place in which the demons of bleak Eckhausen and hellish Iraq will finally be exorcised (or will they)?

MillieMoodle · 25/11/2016 13:11

Just a couple more observations - episode 2 - when Sam lets "Alice" out of the shed, he says "good girl" to her which is creepy as that's what Gettrick says to her.

Episode 3 - when "Alice" is speaking to the psychiatrist, the psych. says that it's normal to have feelings for her abductor. "Alice" is very quick to say she has no feelings for him at all, so I think that Sophie's playing along with Gettrick to keep herself and Lucy safe.

It also seems Jorn believes the butcher is innocent from day 1.

And I think "Alice" is well aware that Baptiste knows she's Sophie from day one. She doesn't want to be around him as she's worried he'll blow her cover and ask too many questions, which could be disastrous for Lucy and Alice.

mikado1 · 25/11/2016 13:49

'What the three of us did to that girl'.. doesn't tie in with him burning house imo.

Cantgetmyoldnameback · 25/11/2016 13:57

'What the 3 of us did to that girl' surely refers to burning alive the 9 year old girl in the house. Seems clear to me.

mikado1 · 25/11/2016 14:25

It just doesn't sound right to me, it wasn't 'us' but him, sounds more like something else, obviously I could have it wrong.

deadringer · 25/11/2016 14:27

I hope they don't find any babies bodies in that basement. Baby boys would be useless to drilla in the future and possibly even eventually a threat.

MorrisZapp · 25/11/2016 14:34

No no no. Surely Drilla is an abuser of adolescent girls, and keeps the children they give birth to well cared for to please their mothers? Please don't say he wants to abuse that little girl too :(

GoldenGumballs · 25/11/2016 14:56

I think Eve knows the answers but is covering it up through fear. I don't think Andreas will feature as his part was to introduce the evil twins ( who bullied him - cut scene) and to show the patience and kindness of the butcher. But am flummoxed with the rest!

Fiderer · 25/11/2016 15:08

"The 3 girls" is how Stone sees it when his memory involuntarily brought it up. Doubt he gave it much thought over the years, unlike Reed.

Gettrick would have felt sorry for himself and blamed Nadya.

Fiderer · 25/11/2016 15:21

Wrong way around - "What the 3 of us did to girl"

BlackDoglet · 25/11/2016 17:30

The DM article refers to a photo in the Brig's office - any ideas?

LarkDescending · 25/11/2016 17:41

I think the photo in Brig's office was a group shot of military personnel in Iraq, I think?

LarkDescending · 25/11/2016 17:45

Oops! Too much thinking in that sentence.

I can't remember when we saw the relevant photo, I must say.

Isitjustmeorisiteveryoneelse · 25/11/2016 17:52

I posted a while back that I thought either Eve or her sister could have been 'stolen', by Stone, from somewhere - not as a creepy kidnap but as a 'rescue' almost, now the writers confirms he is harbouring a secret. The secret can't be the killing of the Iraqi dad or the burning of the girls because both Reed and Getterick know/knew too so that hardly 'harbouring' a secret. I'm also a bit worried by the DM article by the Williams. It says that they've made sure there's no ambiguous ending this time but they also say some things just couldn't be slotted in to eight episodes. What about some of the parallel issues? Will we find out the answers re Lena for example? What did Andreas tell the twins about Herz that was so bad it made them kick seven shades out of Nadia? Why did Matthew then befriend them instead of turning them in? And lots more I'm sure. They're interesting parts of the story surely? I want answers dammit!

Tableforjuan · 25/11/2016 17:55

The DNA test being faked would be an annoying narrative loophole. I think the body was that of Alice's deceased child- though would that be a sufficiently accurate match?

Reckon Stone's 'terrible secret' is just the Iraqi girl's death, and Adam had told Sophie about this provoking her 'don't know how you live with yourself'.

Also agree with pasadena re actress dissimilarities. Sophie looks more like child Alice than new real Alice does!

Tableforjuan · 25/11/2016 17:58

Also- surely the rollercoaster photo was the actresses on an actual roller coaster or simulator! Nobody looks their best at that angle....
