Thanks all, for your concern for Aotearoa. We are a pretty resilient lot, like the Aussies who we love to hate and vice versa. I think we are still only afew generations from the pioneers who came here and crafted our country out of the bush and the rivers and the sea. That includes the Maori who, according to legend came here in the tenth century,
From the "Only in Aotearoa" files: We are fatally obsessed with Rugby. Yesterday, less than 24 hours after the main quake, news photographers are out stalking Richie McCaw across the skies and the Canterbury Plains as he tries to go about his new career as a rescue helicopter pilot, just like all the other great people getting on with their work helping fellow Kiwis out.
There were lots of tourists in Kaikoura at the time and there have been some great stories about the locals taking groups into their homes for food and shelter. I like to think that we are good at taking care of our guests, I hope so, anyway.

kuiakaituhi · 16/11/2016 10:06

And even if our country and lots of us are hurting, it pales into insignificance compared to the footage of wounded and traumatised children in Mosul and other places under fire in the wretched war. I cannot bear the daily parade of hurt children and our helplessness to change it. The faces haunt me.

Evening all. Looks as if it's been quiet on here today.

My friend/neighbour (who gives the rubbish presents and who I went to France with last month) had some bad news at the weekend which I think I mentioned but they found out this morning that her father's illness is terminal. I've told her to come over and I will make her tea tonight after she's been up to the hospital. I don't foresee a very happy evening ahead. I would have done this for her anyway but it's hard to forget that when my Mum was ill and I was called to the hospital twice in the middle of the night, she came with me both times. I was always grateful for that.

Richtea19 · 16/11/2016 22:42

That's very sad ilove. We have had some sad news too. My very best friend has lost her father. He lives in Spain and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about 5/6 weeks ago. They talked about chemotherapy etc but in the end everything just shit down. It spread to his liver and lungs. I feel so very sad for her. Horrid time of year for me, anniversary of loosing mum, my lovely Flossie has gone and now my friends dad. Sorry for being so morbid! I haven't posted much because I feel just so sad and didn't want to bring everyone down.... I've done it now though!

On a brighter note the instgram photos of BA yesterday was superb. So gorgeously lovely in that long coat. Grin

Ilovelblue · 16/11/2016 22:50

I know just what you mean Rich. My friend came over and I think she was pleased to have somebody to talk to other than her Mum (who doesn't do stress well and is hysterical by the sounds of it). I suppose because I've been through it (twice), she knows I know what it feels like. This is bone cancer which they discovered first but then further investigations found lung cancer as the primary. He'd had nothing to highlight he may have had lung cancer.

Apologies if this is just too morbid for you all.

MaddieMoo82 · 16/11/2016 22:57

Hugs rich and ilove Flowers. It always feels that this time of year is full of bad news. And always the worse time for memories. Hope both of you and your friends are ok x

MaddieMoo82 · 16/11/2016 23:03

I know it won't make things better but here's some lovely CJ to put a little smile on the faces of those feeling a bit blue xx

Well Maddie you wouldn't refuse if he turned up on the doorstep, would you? Thanks for that!

Richtea19 · 17/11/2016 07:15

ahhh maddie those photos have put a smile on my face!

Think perhaps we need to organise a CJ tour for Christmas and the new year??

Ilovelblue · 17/11/2016 08:38

Morning. Sorry for offloading last night.

Saw Rhu's update this morning which has cheered me up. I know I say it a lot but I can really see her stories made into television dramas. I was holding my breath at one point.

I'm happy to organise a CJ tour! We might need to look for another chauffeur though as BK seems to have gone AWOL.

KeziaOAP · 17/11/2016 10:19

Morning all. ilove this is a very good place to offload much better than keeping everything in. Hugs to you and Rhu.

KeziaOAP · 17/11/2016 10:22

Welcome back maddie Smile.

Trish and Kiua glad you're safe, DS has a friend in Christchurch he's been in contact, she's safe.

KeziaOAP · 17/11/2016 10:25

Sorry Rich meant to send hugs to you Blush ...... had been reading Rhu's very good update.

Morning to you all.
I am sorry so many of you are having sad news but something I am sure will cheer you up is the Heathrow Christmas advert it is brilliant. Having said that I did have a few tears but happy ones

TRish47 · 17/11/2016 11:19

It does feel that this time of year is full of bad news. My friend has just been told her daughter (24) has bowel cancer and that it is aggressive. She has flown to Auckland to be with her and look after her
granddaughter who is only 2.
The weather here has been awful, wind, rain ☔️ which has severely hampered the rescue mission in Kaikoura. The army were hoping to get through. Unfortunately they had to stop due to more land slips, caused by the weather.
Loved the pictures of BA on instagram. Thanks Maddie for posting the others. It made my evening!
Take care everyone x

I have been trying to attach the link but sorry don't know how!
As you can guess from the OAP I do understand how hard it is when our parents are so ill and what it is like to go through this but with the help of everyone on here where you can say how you are feeling and the great pictures of BA which the experts keep posting do help to cheer us up

pixieg1rl · 17/11/2016 12:41

YES thank you Rhu one of these days I will learn all the things I need but it's a slow process I'm afraid!! I think it will cheer everyone up my DD sent it to us with the message 'I think they may have seen you two in the airport!!' for this Cheeky madam

Rhubarb01 · 17/11/2016 17:48

Evening. I've been watching some of the Molly and CJ music/video compilations and I've been overcome with the totally irrational urge to just lie face down on the floor beating my fists, kicking my feet and yelling, "I want CJ and Molly in series 3 and I want them NOW!" Completely stupid but I just feel so "ahhhhh," right now about how much I miss them. I wish I could just say, grow up you silly cockwomble, but I can't. Sad.

Sorry, to hear about the sad news ilove, Rich and Trish. Sometimes there is just no answer when you want one. All you can do is be there for someone else. Flowers

icemistOBE · 17/11/2016 20:10

Oh, I can sit down for 5 mins!

Been so busy in work!

Ilovelblue · 17/11/2016 22:24

Yorks and Rhu that advert for Heathrow made me smile to start with then I cried at the end. Never seen it before. Thanks for posting. Guess it's more likely to be shown in the south of England?

Been doing some fiddly sewing jobs tonight and sewing is my worst task, I really hate it. I watched the first two episodes of OG2 as well to take my mind off the tedium! I would have got onto episode 3 I think but thought I'd better keep up with The Apprentice as we tend to discuss it at work the next day. I have really gone off it this year - some of the contestants don't have the sense they were born with!

Rhubarb01 · 17/11/2016 22:41

I haven't seen that advert on TV either ilove but I know what you mean about smiling and then crying.

I haven't watched The Apprentice yet but will catch up tomorrow or later. I was watching 'Close to the Enemy' which I'm still enjoying but I think it was mooj who mentioned how Cal tilts his head and it's really grating on me now. I want to get a string and pull his head the other way!

moojangles · 17/11/2016 22:47

recording it to watch at the weekend, sorry about the headtilt rhu!!!
Loved your update by the way, I prefer your Elvis
