pixieg1rl · 15/11/2016 16:51

Welcome back mads

Does anyone know which supermarket is selling Children in Need merchandising? DS has a school thing on Friday where they need to wear something spotty for CiN (if you can't find anything spotty they have to go in uniform which seems a bit harsh). They don't do spotty clothing for boys. Whoever in the school office thought this one up has got right on my wick. I thought if I could find anything CiN I could shove him in that. I know I'm in a minority but I can't stand CiN so it grates me to buy any of their tat merchandise, but the alternative is an upset child.

icemistOBE · 15/11/2016 16:56

Asda are stockists- ours had tshirt and long sleeve tops, pyjamas, pudsey costumes but you'll be lucky to get them now

pixie I feel your pain there.

I'm not a massive fan of CiN, really that's because we do a lot at work to support our local children's hospice and our fundraising "timetable" does overlap with CiN. We raise £1,000+ every November/December and yet there's always some bright spark who asks why we don't do an event for CiN. Answer: if you want to do it, do it yourself! And of course, they expect it to be done for them so it doesn't get done. I don't have anything at all against the charity per se but it gets ginormous publicity whereas our local children's hospice gets nothing like that so I would rather we raised money for them and of course, we can see exactly where the money is going too.

Sorry, rant over.

Pix some good suggestions on here

Welcome back Mads!! Smile

pixieg1rl · 15/11/2016 18:53

thanks for that jen, although the similar numbers of people on there grumbling about it has just galvanised me into writing a snotty letter to the head about the whole thing.

I have no objection to paying more per child if they can wear non-uniform, but spotty clothing or a specific colour we don't have means the expense of buying something (even a cheap t shirt and some fabric paints etc is still more cash) not to mention the time to make the bloody thing. The nearest ASDA is a 20 mile round trip, so they can whistle for that. It should be that all kids can participate with minimal effort for all these things.

Nickel45 · 15/11/2016 19:24

pix white t shirt, get L to colour spots on. That's what I've done before. I hate buying stuff for just wearing once. Or sew coloured spots on if you have six hundred spare hours!!!! Our school don't do cin, but ours have to wear blue for anti bullying. Littlie wearing a chelsea kit!!

Nickel45 · 15/11/2016 19:26

Colour with a felt tip.

moojangles · 15/11/2016 19:41

There seems to be a lot of dressing up demands at primaries, yikes!

pixieg1rl · 15/11/2016 19:41

I was thinking of priming DS with witty responses nickel, so if wearing stripy stuff (lots of that) he could say they are spots side on.

I've written to the head and pointed out that it's not inclusive and will exclude some children.

pixieg1rl · 15/11/2016 19:43

The teachers seem to have to do a similar amount of dressing up mooj.

Nickel45 · 15/11/2016 19:45

Brilliant, love stripes being spots side on. Grin

moojangles · 15/11/2016 19:48

Morning all. Things are setting here in CH CH and thank you 😊 for your kind thoughts. Kaikoura is still cut off and yesterday saw the sky full of helicopters ferrying out the trapped tourists and also taking in supplies. The supermarket shelves were empty of certain items, all being sent to Kaikoura. Lots of people making donations of food parcels.
I wonder when the rest is the cast for OG S3 will be revealed? I see MK is looking for a house to rent in SA.
Whoops 😬 the earth has just moved again( not in a pleasant way) Take care ladies x

kazzaD66 · 15/11/2016 21:57

Still thinking of you in NZ. Have seen the photos of the Kaikoura evacuation over here. My DH has family in Wellington and we've visited a couple of times but haven't been to Kaikoura or Christchurch for nearly 15 years. NZ is a beautiful place but I guess the reason for some of that beauty is it's position on the Pacific Rim and what that has (literally) thrown up over millenia. Stay safe Smile

icemistOBE · 15/11/2016 22:04

I've seen photos of Kaikoura, completely cut off! And the cows on the tiny bit of land....

Glad you are all safe

And talking of photos.....love the ones of BA in the West End last night BlushWinkGrin

YorksOAP

Thanks for that tip Kazza
just seen them he really is so perfect it's just not fair that he has it all looks, voice, hair the lot. Especially the hair these days most young guys seem to have to have it as short as possible. Whereas my age group would give anything for some hair! Still haven't seen the big moon flipping clouds. Perhaps later tonight.

The biscuits didn't last long so have had to buy another tin so now the proud owner of two STAGS. This one will be hidden. Although still half price

Ilovelblue · 15/11/2016 23:23

Evening all. Late again tonight. No wonder I've been hobbling around like an old crock. The physio diagnosed sciatica today. I more or less suspected it but got a bit worried yesterday when I started to lose feeling in my foot. Eeek. Whatever she did seems to have helped but she did say I would feel very sore tonight so I sat and watched Holby, well started to do, but then fell asleep!

Great pics of BA. He could easily be a model.

Think it's time for bed. Night night.

SoEverybodyDance · 15/11/2016 23:25

Pixie, I'm with you on this dressing up bollocks for charity. All it means is that stressed parents have to go rushing out to buy things thereby spending money in supermarkets which could have gone as donations to CIN.

I always get it wrong anyway. Recently our kids had to dress up in red and yellow to mark some Spanish festival - my poor mite was the only one wearing red and blue because I'd mixed my colours up. Can't even remember having a drink the night before either!

Good luck with it all!

Ilovelblue · 16/11/2016 08:32

Morning from a very dull and soggy north west. Work beckons. Don't get too worked up about CiN if you can help it.
