Sorry about being AWOL but we have internet problems here. It's getting beyond a joke but provider says it's all fine - it's not!

Ilovelblue · 12/02/2017 15:03

I'm here, well I'm not at home at the moment but I'm around if you know what I mean. It's freezing cold up here in the Lakes - been for Sunday lunch at a hotel overlooking Windermere.

I had my friend's two boys most of yesterday and was completely shattered when they'd gone, hence no post from me then. I fell asleep after tea in front of the fire. It was really damp and miserable all day - the sort of chill which went right through you.

Richtea19 · 12/02/2017 15:28

Just back from seeing MIL, she looks fantastic, really upbeat and positive. Just waiting now for apt with consultant with results from the lymph so they can determine what treatment is needed.

PJs and catch up telly this afternoon!

KeziaOAP · 12/02/2017 15:45

Hello been AWOL have had visitors staying since Thursday until mid morning, now sitting down with a cuppa can't believe how quiet it is, lovely to see them but think I've had chat overload!

rich glad that MIL looking good, being positive I believe does make a difference.

icemistOBE · 12/02/2017 21:18

I saw your photos ilove looked like you had two great days out!

Sounds positive rich

Ilovelblue · 12/02/2017 21:53

Pleased MIL is staying positive Rich. Fingers crossed the news is good when she sees the consultant.

ice today was less tiring than yesterday, that's for sure. They are great little boys but at that age as you know (7 and 4) they take every second of your attention. Non-stop questions as well.

Howling gale tonight. It's supposed to warm up as the week goes on but my electric blanket is on full for bedtime!

pixieg1rl · 12/02/2017 21:55

Exciting news, ilove, I'd love to cut down my hours at work and do something a bit more fulfilling. One day I hope.

Good to hear some positives from your MIL rich

Ilovelblue · 12/02/2017 22:08

pixie long time no speak! Where have you been hiding or has RL got in the way?

It's not a done deal as yet - it has to be accepted - and I do know of people who have been turned down several times.

Exciting or downright scary? Financially, the time is probably right but if I do need to get another job, I have not had an interview for years and years! I just hope my financial advisor who I see next week says I can give up work totally if I want but it's a very long shot.

Good luck ilove and good news rich hope all continues to work out. I think a lot of you are too young to be interested in Casualty but am still watching and my last TV obsession returned last night,Tom Chambers,
if anyone remembers him!

Ilovelblue · 12/02/2017 22:42

Ooooh yes Yorks I loved him in Holby. Didn't realise he'd crossed over to Casualty (though to be honest, I don't watch it much). He was in Strictly a few years ago and in our once a year bet with my neighbour, I think he won us about £40.

Just booked a few days in southern Spain for the end of next month.

Rhubarb01 · 13/02/2017 07:26

Morning. We've been granted some internet parole here so I'm taking advantage whilst I can and hoping that this isn't another temporary blip before we're cast out into the wi-filess wilderness again. (I have recently finally joined the 21st century and can get access from my phone but I really only like that for a quick read or update and I can't get on with tiny screens. I'm a bit of a dinosaur and just prefer typing with two hands!)

Good luck with everything ilove. Fingers crossed you get good news all round and can change your life the way you want to. Before I went back to doing a 'proper' employed job I must admit that I couldn't imagine how I'd ever had time to work as there always seemed so much to do that it filled up the day. Knowing how keen you are on gardening and cooking and with all the interests you have I'm sure you could find plenty that's really fulfilling to do but on your own terms. Good luck.

Rich I'm glad to hear that your MIL is looking well and in a positive mind set. Hope it all goes well for her.

Yorks funnily enough I was only looking at the details of a touring musical with Tom Chambers in it the other day "Crazy for You." It's another of those classic thirties musicals with the great songs and dance routines like "Top Hat". My problem is trying to find a willing victim to go with me. When I saw "Top Hat" I dragged eldest DD along who said she'd go if I took a bag of pick 'n' mix with me. She wasn't desperately impressed by the musical and only asked me a couple of times "How much longer".

Well, have a good day everyone!

Ilovelblue · 13/02/2017 08:12

Lovely update Rhu. Great way to start the week. Thanks for your good wishes too.

There's an icy wind here today. Doesn't feel too springlike at the moment but there are lots of snowdrops out so maybe warmer weather is just round the corner.

Ilovelblue · 14/02/2017 07:49

Is anyone out there?

Alwaysfrank · 14/02/2017 10:00

I'm here ilove. Exciting news about your potential voluntary redundancy- I honestly think you won't look back if you can afford to do it. My older sister was made redundant 5 years ago in her late 50s and has a very busy life with no time for work at all!

I've had a very strange morning- dh is laid up with chest pains - think he has pulled a rib muscle or something like that. He managed to get an appointment first thing at doctors. Before that though he found a text on his phone from last night from our daughter saying she is pregnant. We were pretty sure it was a practical joke but I still felt sick until I got hold of her this morning! Drunken student escapades...

I'm here!!!
Half term this week so I expect lots of activities going on.

My eldest son is coming to work with me this afternoon tondo photocopying and scanning, he needs to start earning some money for his holiday and to run his car!

icemistOBE · 14/02/2017 12:41

Half term here is next week. Will prob do something one of the days

Rhubarb01 · 14/02/2017 16:36

Afternoon! I know I should be whispering but we've managed 24 hours of uninterrupted wi-fi so fingers crossed but I'm not holding out much hope. It's amazing how much we've come to rely on the old t'internet for so much.

Not much to report here. It's half-term but the kids are too old to want trips out and couldn't agree on anything if they did plus I'm working and to be honest they prefer not having a parent present to nag them for at least some of the day.

Wish we had some OG news to chat about. Still, there has at least been some new dramas to keep me occupied recently. The problem is nothing has really grabbed my interest since OG and after that 'The Missing'. I'm looking forward to SS-GB starting on Sunday. It sounds like it could be a nicely tense, plotted thriller with a bit of atmosphere thrown in. I've watched 'The Halcyon' but it's a poor imitation of Downton with a lot of wooden acting (perhaps that's unfair - maybe it's the dialogue) but it's undemanding fayre for a Monday night. I just don't really care about any of them. I still enjoy Call the Midwife though. Heidi Thomas is so clever. Every week I feel like crying about something (on Sunday I even caught DH wiping his eye when the mother gave away her baby), I'm amused by something, I love the warmth and humour and the fact that characters have been allowed to grow over time. It's still really enjoyable and perfect for that 8pm slot. Ahh! I'm rambling because I haven't got much to say but didn't not want to post for days!

icemistOBE · 14/02/2017 18:40

I love Call The Midwife and am too looking forward to the SS programme, it's sounds rather interesting

This time last year we knew most of cast too. Definitely need some announcements!

Half term here, been working and son is in holiday club, but I've got a few days off now.

We've had a few months of Netflix so I've been going through box sets mainly. We watched the Crown which was good, but been really enjoying Orange is the new Black which we finished last night. It's really fun one minute and completely brutal the next, and the characters are nicely complex.

Loved your last chapter Rhu, will review later.

Ilovelblue · 14/02/2017 21:02

Evening.

Went back to the doctors this morning as I've had some strange blood test results but pleased to say everything seems back to normal today. Was possibly the length of time I'd been taking the strong painkillers for the sciatica.

I'd been Googling to see if there was any OG news which there isn't of course, but came across MK's latest blog. I've nothing against her at all but have to say that her distressed denim jacket in this link looks only fit for the bin in my view. OK, I'm perhaps slightly older than the majority of us on here and maybe not the most trendy, but sorry, it's a complete mess.

Rhubarb01 · 14/02/2017 21:48

Well, ilove, I am reminded of Maurice Chevalier singing that great song from 'Gigi' which goes "I'm glad I'm not young any more....!"

Sorry, but I have to agree that as much as MK looks as beautiful as ever, that jacket is awful. Grin

Have now decided to read some ff with the picture on the screen!!!!!!😊How sad or mad am I.

Ilovelblue · 14/02/2017 22:05

..... and we're all here with you Yorks.

I've said this loads of times but as I've worked with lots of ex-Forces types over the years, I decided CJ was a stereotypical pompous chauvinist in the first episode. I warmed to him more in episode 2 and by episode 4, I remember emailing my friend at work and saying "I'm in love!"

Rhu why would you buy a jacket which has more rips than actual material??
