Thread one here

So, Sophie Giroux returned pretending to be Alice Webster. DNA results on the body in the shed confirm she is related to Sam.

Baptiste has found out about Henry Reed and the Brigadier being involved with a 9 year old girl in Iraq in 1991. Henry Reed was paying this girls brother.

There are 3 girls in the rollercoaster photo, Sophie, Alice and possibly the girl from Iraq? She has that colouring.

Henry Reed apparently committed suicide although Julien told Daniel he didn't. Whatever Daniel found out about him made him sick.

Nadia has been badly beaten and her husband is still in prison after being identified by Sophie/Alice. Matthew was made to promise to say sorry to the butcher.

Sophie is now in Switzerland. As is the newly spray painted yellow campervan that abducted Alice. Gemma and Baptiste doubt the DNA results as they are still looking for answers 2 years after she returned.

Birds keep being mentioned. Sophie and Alice both had the Web tattoo on their wrists.

Thanks Millie, that could well be true.

LarkDescending · 03/11/2016 21:22

OK I just rewatched the trailer by scrolling back on IPlayer live. You're right, it is cleverly cut so you can't tell who Baptiste is talking to, and what the German policeman is reacting to.

FoxesOnSocks · 03/11/2016 21:22

The whole language things mad. Is there any British character able to speak another language? I know the British aren't famed for their language skills but it's a bit daft none of them do (wait does Aldi lady?).

LarkDescending · 03/11/2016 21:23

*Millie is right, I should have said.

FoxesOnSocks · 03/11/2016 21:30

I do believe I suggested the Brig might be Sam's father ages ago, meaning Sam and Eve would be (half) siblings.

Sad
EsmesBees · 03/11/2016 21:30

Aldi lady and Baptiste's wife are Brits that speak another language. It is ridiculous that so many of the Germans are so good at English, I'm sure I remember more subtitles in the first series.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 03/11/2016 21:34

Germans are good at English and happy to speak in English.

The first series was set in France, French are not so keen.

please don't flame for generalising

FoxesOnSocks · 03/11/2016 21:34

Oh yes Baptiste's wife too!

It was at the amusement park that made me Hmm as Eve didn't speak any German!!

AnnieNoMouse · 03/11/2016 21:40

I think Brig told Eve the result of the DNA test. Eve naturally believed him, but really a test was never done.

AnnieNoMouse · 03/11/2016 21:41

I thought the owner/manager of the fairground looked like the butcher - coincidence?

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/11/2016 21:48

SAm and eve can't be siblings /half siblings as incest

Or are you saying they don't know hey are siblings - if they are .....

Blondes head explodes !!!

ktel1 · 03/11/2016 21:50

I think the comment Gemma made to "Eve" about whether or not she wanted her own family is very significant.

At first I thought that perhaps she was Eve's identical twin she was talking to and that Sam was having an affair with her and not with the woman who was pregnant in 2014.

I was going to go back and see if her name was mentioned when she was with Sam or Gemma

However someone just mentioned that she did refer to herself as Eve so that theory doesn't work.

I think the story is all somehow tied to parentage be it related to surrogacy, adoption, IVF or something else.

Who is related to whom?

Could genetic engineering be involved?- I'm remembering the comment Nadia made to the butcher about a bull that Hitler tried to re introduce and extinct cow.

All rather far fetched I know- no doubt it will all turn out to be something very simple and we're getting misled by red herrings

FoxesOnSocks · 03/11/2016 21:54

No they don't know they are siblings, the idea being that Sam doesn't know The Brig I'd his dad (and possibly The Brig doesn't know either) but this explains how a NotAlice shares DNA with Sam (the NotAlice being The Brigs daughter/granddaughter

OutwardBound2016 · 03/11/2016 21:59

Bows down to Foxes!!!

LillianGish · 03/11/2016 22:07

Coming on to mark place - baffled as ever. I like Hesterton's post about goodies and baddies as I think that"s an interesting way to approach it. I just wanted to say (though it probably doesn't need saying except to clarify things in my own mind) that the Swiss girl is definitely the same girl who had her appendix removed in Eckhausen - so whether she is Sophie or Alice she definitely isn't the body in the shed. I think the fact she understood the waiter speaking French points to her being Sophie (and she also seemed to understand when Julien spoke French to her) - KH and Julien are right in the thinking that the girl who comes back is not Alice, but KH is thrown by the DNA match until she finds the picture of Sophie at the amusement park. So however Alice died (presumably burned almost beyond recognition for post mortem purposes) Sophie (with or without help) returned her body to her parents. I don't think there are any mysterious circumstances that make Alice's father the father of of Sophie I think it's a straight swap of bodies. A pity they didn't hang onto the removed appendix so that could be DNA tested. My question now is who is the third girl as we are not aware of any other girls of a similar age who are missing?

LillianGish · 03/11/2016 22:37

Have been pondering further and the shed body swap makes some sense of what went before. Sophie hadn't come back as Alice to step into Alice's life, but as a way of getting her appendix removed and returning Alice's body to her family as a cover for her departure. She didn't want to identify her abductor as she had every intention of going back to him, but had to identify someone hence her pointing the finger at the butcher at the Brigadier's insistence then asking Matthew to go and apologise to him. She took flowers to Reed's grave suggesting some connection with him, but if he is dead and the Brigadier is now stuck at home with dementia who is driving the camper van in Switzerland?

Ha ha OutwardBound2016, it's about the only theory I've though of. Problem is I've no clue how it ties in with three girls being taken and one ending up burnt in a shed.

I don't know Lillian.

I'm wondering if Sophie who popped up in Switzerland (assuming it's present day) travelled there with the previous abductor (who obviously isn't the butcher) in the campervan. They then had a huge disagreement and she kills him, and abandons the van with the body inside in Vaaden (hence the family seeing it and the dog barking at it).

Or Van Man is still alive, has her back under his control and was watching her at the cafe almost as a test, hence the 'I'm taken' double meaning comment, which ensures she passes the test of not pleading for help.

MargotLovedTom · 03/11/2016 22:49

Aargh cross post again, but snap with the camper van in Switzerland thing!

MiddleClassProblem · 03/11/2016 22:50

Finally watched it. Sorry but cannot read back over pp since yesterday as there are so many. Apologies if I'm covering old ground.

Interesting that Matthew was ok with Aldi at this point. Could it be just the twins' influence or did she do something later? He is really racking up a body count though 😕

So confirmation of our more girls theory! Woohoo! We won!

I wonder if Henry Reed witness brig sexually abusing Tariq from Eastenders (he's every where atm , he was in The Night Of too, blast from the past) little sister and felt guilty so paid the family and in 2014 he was somehow introduced to the multi girl scenario, maybe because Brig thought he had covered for him before so would again, maybe he has medical training and brought in for the appendix situation? But he was against it and this time took a stand/tried to free them so they offed him but Sophie/Alice appreciated his kindness so did the flowers? If so it would be sad that his son died thinking he was a complete wrong 'un.

Are new graves always that moundy?

Sam is probably father to at least 2 girls. Just waiting to hear he was posted in France in 91 or something. Maybe it's just one of the women collecting his offspring.

It's nice to know at least one girl is alive.

Sorry if this is stuff others have said. I will start to read back now but just this thread, not the old one as I think my mind will implode 😂

MargotLovedTom · 03/11/2016 22:50

Sam angry with Matthew because his shove makes Eve lose the baby (their baby?)?
