Thread one here

So, Sophie Giroux returned pretending to be Alice Webster. DNA results on the body in the shed confirm she is related to Sam.

Baptiste has found out about Henry Reed and the Brigadier being involved with a 9 year old girl in Iraq in 1991. Henry Reed was paying this girls brother.

There are 3 girls in the rollercoaster photo, Sophie, Alice and possibly the girl from Iraq? She has that colouring.

Henry Reed apparently committed suicide although Julien told Daniel he didn't. Whatever Daniel found out about him made him sick.

Nadia has been badly beaten and her husband is still in prison after being identified by Sophie/Alice. Matthew was made to promise to say sorry to the butcher.

Sophie is now in Switzerland. As is the newly spray painted yellow campervan that abducted Alice. Gemma and Baptiste doubt the DNA results as they are still looking for answers 2 years after she returned.

Birds keep being mentioned. Sophie and Alice both had the Web tattoo on their wrists.

I thought that about the actor playing Henry. He must definitely be due an appearance soon.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/11/2016 00:15

I Thought they might live next door to each other as the front of houses looked similar .....

Or did I imagine that

ClaraLane · 13/11/2016 00:16

Just been watching the Les Mis 25th anniversary concert and DH pointed out that the Brigadier had joined the cast on stage at the end. Did a bit of googling and discovered he was in the original West End cast. Wonder if he'll break into song in one of the remaining episodes!

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/11/2016 00:16

god imagine they were next door all the time trapped in a cage but aware they were local

EnidButton · 13/11/2016 05:31

Clara I never knew that! How interesting. Going to look it up...

EnidButton · 13/11/2016 05:33

Wow, he was the original Javert! I've been listening to him sing for years and never made the connection.

I wonder (as you do on a Sunday morning and are avoiding news programmes because of YouKnowWho/revising for Biology exam in German with stroppy teenager) - if:

Henry Reed got suspicious or found out about Sophie/Alice/small girl and was trying to help or get them out and Driller killed him. Hence the flowers as a thank you gesture.

Maybe he found out as she was crying in pain from the appendicitis which led him to go round, also convinced Driller that she would die if not treated. Sparking the whole NotAlice plot.

GrumbleBumble · 13/11/2016 08:48

The tattoo and the level of detail Sophie knew about Alice's life makes me think the passing Sophie off as Alice was a long time in the making so the key question remains why didn't Sophie want to be Sophie? Because she wouldn't be able to do whatever it is she is doing in France or because her Dad was involved as Baptiste initially thought?
I think from the time line Reed died several days before Sophie/Alice returned so he can't have freed her so what did he do to earn the flowers?

Im0gen · 13/11/2016 09:04

Maybe the flowers weren't for Reed. Maybe there was another body in the grave, perhaps a baby .

Manumission · 13/11/2016 09:36

Remorse? If Reed was murdered, as per the transsexual prostitute's evidence and she's involved in the whole conspiracy (not simply a victim) as various things suggest, then she could have been Reed's killer or party to Reed's killing.

And she'd also be aware if he was the most conflicted/ remorseful of the paedophiles as the Iraqi blood money suggests, so maybe also a bit grateful to him?

EnidButton · 13/11/2016 13:25

My speculation was she had had a baby possibly with him as the father and the baby had died and been buried with him. But that was when I was barking up the surrogacy tree which I don't think is right now. But could still be a baby or someone else in there?

EnidButton · 13/11/2016 13:27

Although I agree with pp that the child we saw with driller could be her (Sophie/fake Alice), child and she was carrying out instructions, given by driller, to protect her child.

LillianGish · 13/11/2016 13:39

Grumble your post has got me thinking again. Sophie (and I'm convinced it was Sophie for all the reasons discussed before) genuinely had appendicitis something which comes on pretty suddenly so while there clearly was a plan could it really have been a long time in the making? It was also a plan which nearly worked - Alice's mum had her suspicions, but the DNA on the body in the shed seemed to settle it. If Sophie hadn't mentioned the rollercoaster and they hadn't found the photos that would have been that. Who would have benefitted? Alice's mum gets the body of her daughter back, Sophie disappears back to wherever she came from and the butcher takes the blame so the case is closed (still very odd that Sophie's dad doesn't kick up more of a stink). Why would Sophie go back - I've speculated it was to be with Drilla, but she was in a pretty bad state when she came out of the woods. Now I'm thinking it was to try and get back to her daughter - I'm thinking the letting go of the twig analogy is about not seeing her daughter again i.e. If she talks her daughter will be killed.

diddl · 13/11/2016 14:08

But if they were together for many years then it's possible that Sophie knew just enough to get by as Alice.

It was never meant to be long term so a risk worth taking?

GrumbleBumble · 13/11/2016 14:09

Either Sophie and Alice have the same tattoo to begin with or Sophie was tattooed to be able to pass as Alice. If this is the case it has to be a long term plan - otherwise it was be obvious that the tattoo was newly done. It can't have been done a day or two before she came back so was Alice taken just because she looked like Sophie and they could "return" her if Sophie ever need medical help? Again why doesn't Sophie want to go home? Is it Stockholm syndrome or was something happening to her at home?

EnidButton · 13/11/2016 14:13

Because if she does, the child she's left with Driller will be harmed.

ImprovingMyMH · 13/11/2016 15:52

Oh, just a thought, but what wrist was Alice tattooed on? If it was her right one, and if she's right handed, then presumably someone else did it?

youarenotkiddingme · 13/11/2016 15:53

The impression i got from the girl in present day Varen is that she's haunted. She looked like she was surviving by saying little to the waiter but like she wanted to say more. The throwing of the glasses in the fire looked like an act of closure rather than evil. She appeared to sigh.

I'm wondering if for some reason all 3 girls were able to escape and this girl came back to Alice parents by 'luck' of illness. That it was a split second decision to say she was Alice. That she then took the van and fled and Lena died too but by mistake. That this girl is hiding out.

Assuming the girl is Sophie could that be the relevance in the tag line. She realises that by her returning it's going to cause more harm. Or she returned as Alice in a quick decision but once she realised things couldn't be the same fled again?
The girl certainly knows the Brig and certainly feels he has something to feel guilty for. It could well be the Iraqi girl or could be something entirely different. Could the Brig have murdered Henry Reed and she knows about it? Could that be why she took flowers to Henry's grave? Could Henry have been involved somehow with the girls - maybe as a way the help them escape rather than as a baddie?

storminabuttercup · 13/11/2016 16:23

I don't think Sophie's dad is involved because baptiste doesn't seem to anymore and I tend to agree with him. I'm also convinced that Henry Reed was a good guy.

LizzieMacQueen · 13/11/2016 16:26

Re the tattoos, if Sophie and Alice are in captivity together for a long term Alice could well have tattooed Sophie out of boredom.

Has anyone analysed the opening sequences yet?

SusanneLinder · 13/11/2016 16:26

May have been brought up already, ( not read every post) but the DNA evidence of the girl in the shed, said that Sam was her father. Didn't say that Gemma was her mother. And we know he has had affairs.

MoonfaceAndSilky · 13/11/2016 16:40

Could the Brig have murdered Henry Reed and she knows about it?

Yes, we are all assuming Henry reed is a goodie - maybe he wasn't and maybe the Brig is a goodie after all?

youarenotkiddingme · 13/11/2016 17:32

The brig isn't that much if a goodie if he killed a girl in Iraq and Henry Reed!

MiddleClassProblem · 13/11/2016 20:35

Totally can't keep up with this thread😂

braceybracegirl · 13/11/2016 22:41

I knew he was the original Javert. Also Sarah and duck voice and in the thick of it.
