Thread one here

So, Sophie Giroux returned pretending to be Alice Webster. DNA results on the body in the shed confirm she is related to Sam.

Baptiste has found out about Henry Reed and the Brigadier being involved with a 9 year old girl in Iraq in 1991. Henry Reed was paying this girls brother.

There are 3 girls in the rollercoaster photo, Sophie, Alice and possibly the girl from Iraq? She has that colouring.

Henry Reed apparently committed suicide although Julien told Daniel he didn't. Whatever Daniel found out about him made him sick.

Nadia has been badly beaten and her husband is still in prison after being identified by Sophie/Alice. Matthew was made to promise to say sorry to the butcher.

Sophie is now in Switzerland. As is the newly spray painted yellow campervan that abducted Alice. Gemma and Baptiste doubt the DNA results as they are still looking for answers 2 years after she returned.

Birds keep being mentioned. Sophie and Alice both had the Web tattoo on their wrists.

Yes baptiste says to icelandic man 'if there is a chance that aleece websterrrr is still alive i must....'. Towards the end of the last episode. So he does in 2016 think she may still be alive. But we must remember that he is now having hallucinations, presumably because of his brain tumour.

Really good point about father of eve's baby - how could we have failed to speculate on that so far?

The80sweregreat · 04/11/2016 10:57

Eve hasn't made any reference to the father - in present day a few episodes ago she said something to Sam in bed about ' a baby you don't want to talk about' but that was it ( and I could be wrong, but she did mention a child ) Sam cant be the dad as they only started the affair after the fire I think. I feel she gave the baby away or he or she has died.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/11/2016 11:09

I don't think eves baby was Mathews dads

No way a mum would say to a lady who had a mc about having her own children

Unless eve didn't have a mc and baby was a surrogate hence why mum asked didn't she want her own

do we def know she had a mc? All we know is that eve doesn't have a 2yr in prssent day

The tattoo was very neat. Not sure a 10yr could draw so perfectly

And baptiste can't die. As they left Iraq the long haired bearded guide told him to stop running away and have the op

So assume will have tumour removed and be third series 😁

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 04/11/2016 11:21

Why did people think Eve was a surrogate?

GrumbleBumble · 04/11/2016 11:38

chardonnay in episode one Eve's father says something to her about what would her sister think of her still working while so pregnant. People have assumed that given there is no sign of her child in the present day and the reference to her sister that she was carrying for her sister.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 04/11/2016 11:40

Righr.

LarkDescending · 04/11/2016 11:50

Brig: You should really be on leave by now, not stuck in the middle of something like this.
Eve: I'm fine, Dad.
Brig: I know. But your sister would have killed me for not at least saying it.
Eve (strokes Brig's arm, looks sympathetic, meaningful pause): Have you told her?
Brig: I will...I will.
Eve: Dad!
Brig: It's my job to worry about you, remember, not the other way around.

(Ep 1 at about 50:53).

LarkDescending · 04/11/2016 11:52

Having rewatched that exchange between the Brig and Eve, my take on it is that the "have you told her" is some bad news about the Brig - quite possibly the dementia diagnosis.

rumbelina · 04/11/2016 12:04

We don't know for definite that Eve has mc do we? The surrogate idea would clear up a couple of things: lack of father, Gemma's question about having kids/family of her own one day (I can't believe it was a continuity error as at least one person in the cast/crew would have noticed).

I can't remember which episode it was but Daniel Reed went into the kitchen and there was blood/red stuff on the floor and he started scrubbing it. Does anyone know what that was about? I think it was our first sighting of him.

I keep remembering that the first series was FULL of red herrings. It's hard to know what's relevant but I'm really enjoying it and Keeley Hawes is great as ever.

GrumbleBumble · 04/11/2016 12:18

We know Eve is bleeding and having pains but she is far enough along that the baby could live. I agree that the family if your own comment isn't a mistake or Gemma having some how forgotten that Eve was pregnant when they met.

TobleroneBoo · 04/11/2016 12:20

Grumble, Eve is at least 8 months pregnant, so the baby could have lived I think

GrumbleBumble · 04/11/2016 12:21

*of your own. Damn my fat fingers.

TobleroneBoo · 04/11/2016 12:27

Sorry Grumble totally misread your post! Thought you asked if she was far enough along!

LizzieMacQueen · 04/11/2016 12:27

In last night's episode a man comes into view outside the hospital, where the press are gathered (BTW why didn't Gemma mention Alice had died in her stattement - I think she just says she returned??). Is that man significant?

I'll see if I can screen shot.

HRarehoundingme · 04/11/2016 12:36

I was thinking could the DNA results have been faked? Did they actually do it?

They said they did it against dad but how - same blood group or proper DNA test and why not both parents? Could it have been reported that the DNA was correct as Dad wouldnt remember having the test [in hospital] as a way of covering up the polices failure to deal with the reappearance of alice. It wouldn't look good to the papers if "missing girl returns and dies then we realise she's not the right girl and we still have a missing girl somewhere"

Cases like Frédéric Bourdin and Bobby Dunbar show us that it could happen - someone impersonating a missing child and the parent hoping for the best that it's their child

LizzieMacQueen · 04/11/2016 12:38

The man walking from the left. He seems to purposefully walk on, stand still and stare at the window. You don't see him in later Press shots.

hollyisalovelyname · 04/11/2016 12:40

Thank you FoxesonSocks. I shall try the link.

TalkingSheds · 04/11/2016 12:44

I noticed him too Lizzie.

Why did the Brig mention Alice liking spiders? How would he know?

hollyisalovelyname · 04/11/2016 12:47

Sadly the link didn't work Foxes

TheSpottedZebra · 04/11/2016 12:49

Or maybe Gemma is just a bitch regarding the baby.

Yup, it was odd that she didn't say in that statement that (Fake)Alice had died, but then grief does odd things to you, and probably maybe the press knew that she'd died in the shed anyway.

TobleroneBoo · 04/11/2016 12:55

I think the press knew she had died, thats why they were there int he first place.

Also think the Brig knew Alice liked spiders as she had the web tattoo and that would probably been a distinguishing feature on file for when she disappeared?

LillianGish · 04/11/2016 13:10

I agree with the comment re the web tattoo - very neat for a 10 year old in her bedroom and hard to replicate so identically on Sophie. Makes me wonder if the tattoo was done by the same person on both girls. My DD thinks the tattoo looks like the photo they keep showing of the circle of bare trees filmed upwards from the ground in the opening sequence.

Mary21 · 04/11/2016 13:14
  1. Maybe Alice was groomed and went voluntarily i.e. Wasn't taken. She had been bunking of school
  2. maybe the body (dead Alice) had been in the shed a while. A little slight ill girl couldn't have got a body from where ever into the shed un noticed. Bodies are heavy.
  3. Is child in the car in Switzerland that saw the camper van Sophie's baby?
