New thread, boring title

Every week Ed Balls escapes the dance off and every week I'm like "whhaaaat the f...??". I get that some people find him entertaining but he is so bad I can hardly bear to watch him, it's excruciating - he should have gone in week 1. I think it's a shame Melvin went so early as although he wasn't great I think with time and training he would have improved - he had more potential to improve than Ed Balls certainly. I think the judges did make the right choice with Naga as she always looked so unsteady on her feet and like she really wasn't enjoying herself at all. However, I can't see Anastacia going much further anyway. Finding Louise a bit boring. Loving the 'old hollywood' routines this past fortnight from Ore and Danny, and loved Ore's jive.

I take your point this week re: Ed Balls. It was quite terrible. But the previous 2 weeks were just hugely entertaining. And he's a real tryer!

Naga, I think made a few mistakes in the dance off. Anastasia was better in the dance off, although in the main show, I thought she was more boring.

I'm in two minds re: Ed Balls.

His first two weeks were not good dancing wise, but you could see the effort and improvement, and you could certainly see he was giving it his all.

However his latter two have been more awful than not-good-but-improving. Full marks for effort with Movie week, he again really threw himself into it and was fully in character - excelllent, and exactly what people have been criticising Naga for not doing - but the dancing was poor, and he struggles with even walking with purpose (it really does look very camp and mincing). And this last week was just dreadful, absolutely awful, nothing redeeming about it at all.

The knight nonsense was just cringy i FF it 3 seconds in all that stomping really wasn't needed he seems to be having a great time though but it is painful to watch

Yes there was too much of the silly dressing up last weekend IMO

I agree that Ed is really trying hard (he can dance a bit, and he's not as stiff as Judy Murray who went on for weeks like a tree!!!) but he had a bad day in his weird knight costume, I also wonder how much of our licence money is wasted on ridiculous dragons !

I don't think any of our licence money is wasted on anything in SCD, the BBC makes a fortune out of it.

I suspect many of the ridiculous props aren't bought for the show but come out of the BBC prop store, and the bits of set are just re dressed and repainted depending on what they need for that week.

Oh they reuse a lot of the dresses too and after SCD finishes they sell them off. I remember my dance teacher telling me she'd seen Rachel Stevens' beautiful Foxtrot dress on a teenage girl at a competition a few weeks after SCD had finished that year. It must have cost her parents a fortune!

When I first moved up to open dress I wore an ex-Strictly one to compete It actually belongs to my friend but she has others she prefers so lent me that one to tide me over until I bought my own!

I was cynically wondering if Ore is crying as originally people thought he was arrogant. I did like his Jive though.

Remember Danny M's fiance lost one husband to be on this show. So may explain why Danny has been asked to behave.

Scott Maslen was one of those who I think left the show too early. He was really good and remember his Viennese Waltz gave me goosebumps. I forgot Holly was also really good.

I do have to say I really like Joanne. Her choreography was fab for the Jive.

Yes I agree about Joanne Halle She was on ITT last series and she gave some really good easy instructions on how to do particular dance movements. Better than Karen Hardy's IMO, I reckon that Ore wouldn't be so good without her.

My new ballroom dress was £800 (second hand, but only worn a couple of times and very expensive new).

New, made to measure you're looking at £1250+, probably closer to £2000 if heavily stoned.

They used to have prices up on the DSI website and certainly the SCD ones were all £800+

This second hand sale page gives a good idea of prices. From what I can see they vary from £250-£1400.

Some of them state they are old SCD dresses too.
