For those who loved it last time, will you watch after the let down of the ending? (Well I felt it was a let down, don't think there was a proper conclusion at all and still room for doubts as to whether he was still alive or not).

I loved it though and will definitely be watching the next series. I've seen the trailer and it looks very very good. Julian (think that was his name) is still in it. Looks like it is based on JayCee Dugard/Elizabeth Fritz type cases where they have gone missing as children and reappeared years later.

Cannot wait!

Ok, not really thought this through fully....could the baby (babies) have been involved in some sort of "baby market selling ring" type thing? Alice/Sophie thinks the baby died, but actually been sold on for adoption? Horrible thought mind and not sure it's feasible. Could this be where army lady baby went too? We've no idea on that yet have we?

OutwardBound2016 · 27/10/2016 08:19

So impressed - I like that theory. DH is crap with coming up with theories so you all give me my fix Smile

MargotLovedTom · 27/10/2016 08:20

I would say Gemma recognised Eve at the hotel, as you see her pull up outside Eve's house and pause in the car, as if girding herself for the encounter she's about to have with her.

TobleroneBoo · 27/10/2016 08:22

Hotel spying and rollercoaster pics were both present day, she had probably been looking through the pics for the last 2 years given the number of them, she also had the hotel pen

MiddleClassProblem · 27/10/2016 08:23

I thought there was meat like pork or something on the plate?

Ciutadella · 27/10/2016 08:25

You're right cg, we are still in the dark about eve's baby. There is also the question of eve's sister, referred to by brig in episode 1. It could have just been a throwaway line, or alternatively dsis will turn out to be incredibly important and the key to the whole mystery!
Incidentally was sophie alice allowed to buy petrol in an unmarked can? Isn't there some kind of law against that?! And where did she get the money from - i suppose gemma and sam might have given her some.

MiddleClassProblem · 27/10/2016 08:29

I wondered about the money for it too. I can't imagine them giving her money as they didn't want her going out alone.

Also no idea how she climbed out that window lol

MissWimpyDimple · 27/10/2016 08:39

The thing about the first series was that the family had no connection whatsoever to the area so in the end an awful lot of the red herrings were just that. They had randomly broken down there

In this one, the characters have connections and back stories which makes it a little more plausible that it will be connected. In this one, it's Julien who is effectively the outsider.

MiddleClassProblem · 27/10/2016 08:41

Re pregnant girl, the theory is that Sophie was pregnant at abduction. The girl walking along the road in ep 1 was Alice.

If Sophie was abducted preggers, she would already have the baby or not long after Alice's arrival.

Also with showing roller coaster pics to Eve, don't forget her husband had just been to see her and said about moving back to England. She might have assumed it was because he and Eve had ended things or gone sour as he didn't mention work op (or if he did I zoned out). Or she might have just accepted things with the distance between the two of them. They're not exactly warm with each other. And still being hurt by it, not surprised so just put it to one side for Alice.

PollyPerky · 27/10/2016 08:42

Not read all the posts but this is my take on it

why did they not do DNA on Alice/ Sophie- as it's clearly Sophie?
Gemma would have this knowledge if it had been done.

The butcher's wife presumably lost her teeth in the beating up she received.

Alice is still alive and most likely in that red van in the forest that we saw at the start when the dog was barking at it. But she's being moved around.

I don't know if the butcher in prison is guilty or if Sophie told lies because she didn't want to grass on the brigadier.

Was her 'sorry' for telling lies, or for telling the truth?

MiddleClassProblem · 27/10/2016 08:45

I think Alice will be found alive in the end partly because of the series 1 outcome. If everyone that goes missing ends up dead it kinda makes the ending a bit obvious when you start a new series.

I'm guessing that baptiste is convinced by someone, maybe his travel buddy, maybe Alice, to have the surgery and it's all ok and he's back for another series or another series is at an earlier point.

MiddleClassProblem · 27/10/2016 08:46

Yes, I think sorry is for framing him

FoxesOnSocks · 27/10/2016 08:52

I don't recall her following Sam to the hotel? How did I miss that? Thought she just found the pen

Don't you think Butcher Wife lost her teeth in the attack (possibly by the German twins?) She's a scar on her upper lip in present day I presumed was from the teeth losing incident.

Still no sure Sophie is pregnant in that video, surely it's just a smock thing, Baptist isn't a bad detective surely he'd have cottoned on if she was!

Ciutadella · 27/10/2016 08:54

Ah i think polly may have a point - if sophie alice felt some kind of misguided loyalty to the butcher-captor, she could have been saying sorry to him for telling the truth. And we are being led to think he's been framed, aren't we? so the double bluff theory says yes he was involved - but so was brig, henry, and who knows who else?
Yes i thought gemma didn't seem particularly ruffled by discovering the affair, so perhaps not so strange that she showed eve the roller coaster photo after all. Her priority is alice (and matthew).

TalkingSheds · 27/10/2016 09:03

I think whoever was in the shed fire was dead before it started. Gemma and Sam surely would have heard screams coming from the shed and the fist they noticed it was in fire was when it had been going for some time.

Lovelybangers · 27/10/2016 09:07

8episodes really? Wow - I don't see how many more twists can be woven in to fill so many episodes.

Sophie/Alice Def Sophie said sorry as she had had to frame the butcher.

I think so anyway.

The brigadier is bound to let something slip - I thought he was going to say more last night actually.

MiddleClassProblem · 27/10/2016 09:08

If you commit suicide like that, you could be in the mindset to take the pain and wouldn't scream, also she would have not wanted to alert them to make sure she burnt as much as possible (grim I know but also having seen making a murder and the Brit one, dna wise there would still potentially be some bone. But they didn't Dan as dad believed it was her and now it's too tragic to approach).

Having said all that it may not be Sophie at all in there. I HAVE NO IDEA AND CANT COMMIT TO ANYTHING!

Lovelybangers · 27/10/2016 09:09

Talkingsheds good name for talking about sheds

Do you think so? But she had been locked in the shed so where would a body have come from if it wasn't her?

TalkingSheds · 27/10/2016 09:16

I think the camera lingering on the key in the lock the previous week was a clue to that. When the brother locked her he left the key in didn't he...

Lovelybangers · 27/10/2016 09:22

Ah yes.

So someone else could have come along and unlocked the shed?

TalkingSheds · 27/10/2016 09:28

Possibly yes!

Bolognaise · 27/10/2016 10:07

Radio times article asks if we've seen the dog that is barking by the camper van before - have we???

I think it's Sophie in the shed, she was unhinged I could believe she realised she'd never actually be free while alive and I think she was covering for brig and following his orders to frame butcher. Eve was creeped out by the pale skin comment, I wondered if her baby had been her dads and she was mentally not physically "captive" by brig even after he got Alzheimer's and she suspects him but tries to ignore that thought re Alice/Sophie

giraffesCantReachTheirToes · 27/10/2016 10:08

Is it next Wednesday yet? !!

Tissunnyupnorth · 27/10/2016 10:10

When did Gemma follow Sam to the hotel?? Missed that completely. If she knows about the affair why did she go & see brigadiers daughter for help with the photo???

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 27/10/2016 10:42

Why does Alice call her mum by her name but calls her Dad Dad

she seemed to make a point of calling her Gemma

its so confusing but so so good
