For those who loved it last time, will you watch after the let down of the ending? (Well I felt it was a let down, don't think there was a proper conclusion at all and still room for doubts as to whether he was still alive or not).

I loved it though and will definitely be watching the next series. I've seen the trailer and it looks very very good. Julian (think that was his name) is still in it. Looks like it is based on JayCee Dugard/Elizabeth Fritz type cases where they have gone missing as children and reappeared years later.

Cannot wait!

Ah x-post and Dame had already answered!

Tissunnyupnorth · 27/10/2016 00:24

We still don't know what happened to brigadiers daughters baby do we?

MargotLovedTom · 27/10/2016 00:27

I don't know "MiddleClass* I'm trying to work that out but I'm too tired and fuzzy.

Funny how Sophie's dad said to Baptiste "I said I would knock your teeth out if I saw you again." when we also see Nadia putting false teeth as she's obviously lost her own in a traumatic fashion. Another red herring probably!

MargotLovedTom · 27/10/2016 00:29

No we don't know re baby.

So if Nadia was kneeling in front of butcher with a mirror behind her, that would show as it did in the programme?

MargotLovedTom · 27/10/2016 00:30

Ah hang on I see what you mean - her back view would also be in view. I hope they didn't rope Andreas into anything dodgy.

MiddleClassProblem · 27/10/2016 00:31

If there is someone else taking that photo, as Gemma said, it's hard for something to get deleted completely these days photo wise.

Also Gemma must have looked at a shitload of roller coaster pics. She didn't know exactly when they went to the theme park! Even in 1 yr that's a lot, let alone 11! Unless the drink was an alcoholic drink in which might rule out the first couple of years depending how they looked. At least figuring out the right theme park should have been easier.

Is blue top Alice wearing the necklace that Sophie-Alice had on when she returned?

MiddleClassProblem · 27/10/2016 00:33

My first bit was two thoughts merged into to one. Not sure what the if was leading to lol

MiddleClassProblem · 27/10/2016 00:37

Could third person be brig and actually the skin thing is about Aldi? Extra red herring? I think he's being pointed to too early perhaps and what part he had in it all was not long term? But then I also think he did it all at the same time 😂

MiddleClassProblem · 27/10/2016 00:38

She's wearing a necklace and it looks like returnee isn't. Now I must sleep!

giraffesCantReachTheirToes · 27/10/2016 02:01

Bloody hell. This is brilliant.

My thought was perhaps has some genetic thing. Maybe carries the gene for a life limiting illness. Could be why fake Alice baby died and then potentially Eves baby.

giraffesCantReachTheirToes · 27/10/2016 02:10

blondes just read your comment...you are preg? Huge congratulations. I'm delighted for you. "Known" you since 10 ish yrs ago on NJ. So from everything I remember I realise how special this is. Delighted for you. X

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 27/10/2016 02:11

Omg none of you have mentioned the car! Which probably means I'm barking up the wrong tree but nothing happens in drama like this without a reason.

At the beginning, in present day Switzerland, there is a family speaking German with the little boy who spots the camper van. The camper van that turns out to be yellow under the red paint.

So.... we're all busy being distracted by the campervan and how clever we are to notice the colour change, remember Alice was abducted by a yellow camper van etc and yet we fail to notice how odd the family in the car are. We never see the father (which seems deliberate, he is always hidden by a reflection or tricky angle) only the little boy and the mother. The mother seems very young and has a definite look of Alice about her!

Course now we'll never see them again Grin unless....??!

MiddleClass - I just had to check again re the dodgy photo - there is a full length mirror behind Nadia, and both the butcher (taking the photo) and the back of her head are seen so there's only the two of them in the room.

shins · 27/10/2016 06:50

Okay, obviously it's a BBC drama in English. But love the way we have several German actors speaking English, a French actor speaking English, an Icelandic actor speaking English and Arabic, but no English actor must ever be called on to speak a single word of German, even if their character has lived in Germany for years and years! Alice's brother and his friends is particularly daft. And the butcher's wife wouldn't do much for her business if she addressed every customer in English when they spoke to her in German!

youarenotkiddingme · 27/10/2016 07:12

We see butchers wife putting teeth in in present day - but we don't know she didn't have them in 2014 scenes. It could be another red herring.

She may have lost them during the gag in mouth scene we saw in the photo.

I LOVE this programme. Enjoyed the first one - although like many was frustrated by the ending. But then came to realise it was part of the story - lots of leads and it isn't always as complicated as it seems.

So I'm watching this episode trying not to look at all the complicated 'evidence' but rather what's in front of us.

And that burnt face in the shed was actually creepy.

Good theory re that being the real Alice and not the Sophie/Alice who returned. I expect they finally did a DNA test on the body.

Plus it's inter sting how the butcher and the Brig look similar and that's the picture she chose.

GreenGinger2 · 27/10/2016 07:19

Hmm I wonder if it was the brig with the butcher's wife in the pic. That he had tied her up and taken those pics without her consent. She had that info over him iykwim, which is why she left the army. Deleting the pics was getting rid of info which could have got her husband off? Or maybe brig was blackmailing her.

Re pregnant girl, wouldn't she have been pregnant in the pic of her walking down the road just before her abduction.

Finding the mum hesitating re the girl being her daughter even when living with her than absolutely sure after seeing one grainy pic a little far fetched. Hoping it's a red herring.

Ciutadella · 27/10/2016 07:32

did gemma recognise eve when she followed sam to the hotel? If so, is it a bit surprising that gemma went to her with her photo evidence?

I can't see any resemblance to alice at all in blue top alice! Could gemma be deluded - and baptiste as well, so sophie alice was actual alice?

Also what is the significance of the conversation we didn't see - between brig and daniel? Daniel must have told brig what he'd found in the diaries, but then what?

MumboNumber5 · 27/10/2016 07:40

Very essential announcement following the IKEA chat - their table is stornas (we have itGrin)

Turquoisetamborine · 27/10/2016 07:53

I think they were eating beef casserole and that's why they had it in a bowl with a spoon.

I feel so sorry for her brother.

Rolocookies · 27/10/2016 07:57

Ciut I really think you could be on to something there!

GreenGinger2 · 27/10/2016 08:01

Didn't she see them at the hotel in the present day. The rollercoaster pic realisation was before or not?Confused

MargotLovedTom · 27/10/2016 08:11

The rollercoaster realisation was definitely present day, and it was definitely the butcher in the photo.

Ciutadella · 27/10/2016 08:14

Ah - i thought roller coaster pic realisation was also present day, soon after gemma saw them at the hotel. But with the choppy timelines it can be hard to tell!

Was the i spy scene realistic i wonder - does anyone with young dc really still play that in the car?!

Changing location, does it turn out that the man who was following baptiste is a goody, as he's now taken him to meet daniel (transport could have been more comfortable i admit, but at least they got there!)
