I wondered if the orgy was a nod to Roman World from the film. It didn't seem very cowboy-y.

Orangetoffee · 01/11/2016 21:05

Yes that was what DH and I were thinking too

Kitsandkids · 02/11/2016 07:02

What did black hat guy say to Teddy? Something about 'You used to be beautiful then you were made flesh and bone.' I had a dog jumping on me and couldn't make it out. What did it mean?

TheHiphopopotamus · 02/11/2016 07:13

I took that to mean that back when the park first opened, they maybe looked different somehow, perhaps more like robots? Then advances in technology meant that they became more realistic.

However, I'm probably wrong as everything seems to have a deeper meaning on this Confused

When the man in black was talking to Ford, Ford got up, touched Teddy on the shoulder and said something to him, then Teddy leaped up and said they had to be on their way. I was wondering if that's one of those phrases like the deep and dreamless sleep thing that does something to the hosts and sets them off doing a specific thing.

Kitsandkids · 02/11/2016 07:51

I think Ford kind of sped up his his plan then. Because the piano started playing faster as well. So I think he put events into a kind of fast forward.

ClaudiaApfelstrudel · 02/11/2016 08:19

definitely the best episode yet, Obviously Dolores' past is something that is going to be revealed in the near future and her connection to 'Arnold'

gaggiagirl · 02/11/2016 14:05

There was a lot going on in that episode! I had a poorly tot crawling all over me so I might have to watch it again.

Embolio · 02/11/2016 19:42

Hi all, can I join in? Really enjoyed episode 5, holy cow I really have to concentrate while I'm watching it. I am desperate to know what's going on!

I'm not sure about the multiple timeline theory - I think I've worked it out then something happens that doesn't make sense and I change my mind.

I wonder what Ford is up to - think there is clearly something bigger going on than the theme park - and it was him that introduced the new code. Why has he kept Dolores around - surely she'd be a candidate for being in the basement in sleep mode/the incinerator!

TheHiphopopotamus · 02/11/2016 20:30

Hello embolio Welcome to the thread.

I agree about having to concentrate while watching it Confused and also agree about the multiple timelines.

In ep 5, I couldn't work out how they managed to pull Dolores from where she was in the orgy town and take her back to the control centre to be interrogated by Ford. Exactly how big/small is this place?!

Also found it interesting how Dolores said she imagined a story where she was the heroine instead of the damsel (or words to that effect), showing that she's capable of breaking out of her loop (or is she? Who knows? Confused). I think Rachel Evan Wood is absolutely fantastic in this btw, as is everyone else tbh.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 02/11/2016 21:41

I didn't think Dolores was being puled out of the orgy scene; I'm assuming we're flashing backwards and forwards but we're never quite sure where we are in the Westworld scenario. Or maybe that's just my feeble brain's way of coping with the confusion!

Ford did say that Dolores was the (or one of the) oldest hosts in the park though? And the man in black cut Lawrence's throat to give teddy a blood transfusion seemingly just before he appeared as El Laszo in the Dolores/Logan/William storyline, so it seems like those storylines can't be happening concurrently. I may well be wrong though. There's some passionate arguments both ways on Reddit Wink

Embolio · 02/11/2016 22:23

I wondered if Dolores was somehow re-living a previous storyline. Like she was in the train carriage with William and Lawrence and then it suddenly flashed to her being there alone - kind of like her retracing her footsteps? Again I could be way off

TheHiphopopotamus · 02/11/2016 22:27

And the man in black cut Lawrence's throat to give teddy a blood transfusion seemingly just before he appeared as El Laszo in the Dolores/Logan/William storyline

But the man in black said 'someone will be along to get him in a moment' or something like that. So he could have been repaired and sent back out (like we've seen Maeve and Teddy). Or maybe there are two or more Lawrence's in different storylines that run concurrently.

It makes my brain hurt to think about it, but I'm loving it.

TheHiphopopotamus · 02/11/2016 22:28

Much more obviously mechanical. And ah character said that the hosts used to be like that

That's an excellent point, especially with what the man in black said about the old hosts.

ijustwannadance · 02/11/2016 22:30

The hosts were changed and made more realistic, presumably by Ford, after Arnold "killed himself" because he found out what ford was planning. This was 35 years ago.

30 years ago the park then went to shit with dolores going off the rails.

Ford thought it was fixed but Arnold is still "alive" as a dormant virus.

30 years later the park is again going to shit with Dolores going off the rails.

Bad cowboy said to Ford at the end of 5 that it would have all been lost 30 years ago if it wasn't for him. I still think he's the brother in law in the past.

The 2 timelines still make sense to me because Lawrence was alive in town after just being killed.

You just need to think they are not playing things in order. They make it look like Dolores is taken out there and then but she isn't.

Also Dolores and the others have been living in constant dejavu their whole lives so things are going to be re-lived over and over and whatever happened in the last update has given them access to their memory banks which confuses things for them and us because they don't age and they get wiped every time they die then remember again. (Like Thandie with her drawings under the floorboards)

DP thinks Dolores is the missing link/cause of tension between Arnold and Ford. They said in previous episode that Dolores was the oldest host in the park.(the first?) Maybe she was made in the image of someone they both loved who died in real life or something.

It would make sense to have multiple copies of each host but then why bother fixing them at all?

Old Buffalo Bill in the basement seems to be the only untouched original host. Virus free? Ford is keeping him for a reason. Not out of sentiment.

A bit like me still having my old nokia 3210. When the internet goes to shit I can still ring and textGrin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/11/2016 22:51

Dh is watching this, and I am sort-of watching it - but I am finding it really hard to work out what is going on, so this thread might be rather useful, as the weeks go by!

I do wonder at what point I will stop being completely baffled, and will start to see some sort of story arc. It hasn't happened yet! Blush

Exactly Arf, only one copy. I think only 1 of each "consciousness" too so mutiple bodies wouldn't work unless it can be swapped or downloaded into another. Also once the hosts are too broken they go downstairs to die. Which in itself is quite odd not to destroy them.

KickAssAngel · 02/11/2016 23:11

I think there must be a few different copies of hosts, which aren't meant to meet.

In the last episode, not only are there 2 lots of Lawrence, but the whiskey that Ford drank in the bar was also called Lawrence, so I wonder if the name is significant somehow.

I don't know why they keep old hosts - I would assume so that they can pull them out & recycle them, but the refrigeration has gone - they said it went years ago - so won't those 'bodies' start decaying?

And yes, I got the impression that hosts couldn't do much more than mildly hurt someone. Although the guy walking off and leaving his BIL behind was the funniest bit so far.

DesolateWaist · 02/11/2016 23:29

What I don't get is that at night the hosts all reset and the staff come and get them to fix them etc.
Where are the guests when this happens? Surely there would be people still propping up the bar and enjoying the company of some ladies into the small hours.
