2 years ago a thread on Our Girl was started with these words ^Anyone watching this drivel?
although slightly enjoyed the family dynamics going on last night, unfortunately DD's favourite programme and in fact Guardian seems to recommend it^

40,000 posts, fireside wrestling contests, fan-fiction, autograph requests, carol concerts, CJ Grand Tours later we are about to watch the last episode of series 2. And that first post is a distant memory.

Oh kuia you couldn't make it up could you! How sleazy is that!

As for your son's friend volunteering to go to Aleppo, gosh I am full of admiration for someone who would do that but I'm not surprised that his family and friends are really concerned. It's such a dangerous place to be right now although they desperately need help.

Actually, the talk of Syria in the context of OG made me curious. I kept wondering why CJ and Two Section would be going to Syria as I'd never heard that anyone was officially out there. When I googled it I found that the only recent mention (August this year) are some BBC stories about Special Forces being pictured out there or perhaps I should say the pictures look like them BUT it's defnitely not official and the MOD won't confirm or talk about it. Goodness knows what CJ and the boys think they're going to be doing.

By the way you don't suppose that Fingers was missing in episode 5 because he was off on SAS selection do you? Perhaps he's going to join Elvis crew for Series 3 - just a little teaser of an idea for the Fingers Fans!

What on EARTH happened then? I promise you ladies that I like to make a point but I ONLY posted that comment ONCE! The flipping site went blank and then there were 15 posts of the same comment - WHAT???

Sorry, though, it won't put me off posting again Grin

Rhubarb01 · 09/10/2016 17:38

On a totally unrelated subject - I've been reading about the new series of 'The Missing' which is going into the newly vacated Our Girl slot on Wednesday. I didn't watch the first series but this sounds good - bit of a military connection too and it's got Keeley Hawes and David Morrisey in it. I think I'll be giving that my attention next.

KeziaOAP · 09/10/2016 18:50

Thought you'd kept your finger on the button rhu Grin

Hmm....... Fingers in the SAS brilliant idea Smile

icemistOBE · 09/10/2016 18:51

Crikey Rhu what happened there? Bloody glitches Grin

Have sent you a PM Wink

Well Kezia perhaps I am losing my touch - still there's nothing like reiterating something 15 times - got it now everyone? Grin

Actually, slightly worried now that the repeated use of the words Special Forces and Syria in the same paragraph will trigger some computer programme at GCHQ and before I know it there will be armed men in black banging on my door - still every cloud and all that, one of them might turn out to be Elvis!

Nickel45 · 09/10/2016 19:23

:) rhu

KeziaOAP · 09/10/2016 19:26

Oh dear Rhu Chinook flying over heading south, as the crow flies not too far from GCHQ and SAS base Hmm

KeziaOAP · 09/10/2016 19:38

Wow Alfie Boe and Michael Ball on SCD, gorgeous.

Rhubarb01 · 09/10/2016 20:08

Oh dear DH is seriously unhappy as the drainpipe has just detached from the house due to Elvis attempting to gain access after spotting a window open upstairs - threatening to send the bill to the MOD!

Ilovelblue · 09/10/2016 20:15

Send him here Rhu - I can cope with a damaged drainipipe!

Ilovelblue · 09/10/2016 20:17

I'm trying to work out what I would like from series 3. It's a harder task than I thought Rhu and I think it's partly because I wasn't as disappointed as most of you seemed to be with the series which has just ended. I enjoyed it, warts and all. Perhaps I am more easily pleased and I know I set my expectations differently than some of you seemed to do.

I agree with everyone who's said they want more of a military theme. When you cast your mind back, we had men in uniform in every episode of the first series and we only saw the Dawes family in episode 3 and then again part way through the final episode. The banter amongst Two Section was one of the highlights and although it was quite amusing in the first episode and little bits of the third, there was little else to commend Two Section to us, other than they were there as a link between both series and to appease us as TG knew we liked them.

Talking of family, please get rid of the parents, especially Georgie's mother. I am still convinced she was more in love with the idea of having a doctor as a son in law than she was ever concerned about Georgie's wellbeing. She was incredibly irritating.

As much as I am a huge fan of CJ which obviously goes without saying, I think we are all agreed that the part he had this time did him few favours. I thought he was good in the second episode with his open hostility to Elvis and there were odd scenes in episode 3, for instance when he was at Georgie's bedside and when they landed back at Brize, plus how he handled Jamie in the cafe in episode 4, but other than that, his appearance was pleasing but gratuitous. OK, gratuitious it may have been but TG knew he was giving us a thrill with CJ in his suit! If he didn't have a substantial role to play in the next series, I think he would be better having been promoted to Major and out of the story altogether. Sorry ladies, I love him as much as you do but a supporting role like that isn't what we want for him.

I suspect that Elvis will return (not just for my benefit but I won't say no and I've been open about my appreciation from the start) because he clearly has a massive fan base and TG will know he will add to the viewing figures. I suppose that all depends whether Luke gets any better offers in the meantime. From an interview I saw he had done on Good Morning, he sounds as if he's another one seeking the bright lights of Hollywood. There has to be some sort of romantic interlude, so if not Elvis, I am sure there will be some other delicious hunk they can rustle up. She will just make it clear that he has either died of his injuries in that case.

As for location, yes, I agree with you all that overseas would be best but something which sprang to mind was the scenes with Nafula at the refugee camp when Georgie goes back with the SF guys. She rhymes off her favourite parts of soldiering: security at the Olympics, helping out with the floods in Cumbria (not that far from where I live) and then being at the camp with Nafula and Kicki. Instead of one continuous storyline for the next series, could it be a series of one shots, in different parts of the globe? Just an idea....

I didn't quite understand the ending where Georgie reappears at the refugee camp. Is she there in an army capacity, ie, did she not resign after all (we should be used to that with CJ resigning his commission then reappearing in series 2) or did she go out working for an NGO or what? If she is still in the army, how come she appeared on her own when previously she was surrounded by Two Section? There needs to be a proper explanation in the third series as to how Georgie does not resign - we don't want to be left guessing as we did with CJ apparently not resigning his commission.

Anyway, those are the musings from Ilove Towers tonight.

Rhubarb01 · 09/10/2016 20:50

ilove I think from what Georgie says she is on leave at the end of episode 5, presumably because she was supposed to be leaving and going on her honeymoon anyway. I'm guessing she's changed her mind but taken a few weeks to go to Kenya. She says "I can't leave now" to Nafula when she asks about the army so she's stayed in. Perhaps the papers hadn't gone through by the time she got married?

Like you I still doubt it would have been a good idea to go out to Kenya again if it was so unstable there the first time.

TRish47 · 09/10/2016 23:18

I agree with Kuta regarding the FF and new stories about CJ and Molly it certainly sums it up!!
I wonder if CJ would move into Millitary Intelligence? He did say he was War Weary!!
A promotion to Major?
I would like to see a role for him in S3.
I have said this before Our Girl will always be Molly CJ and Section 2 for me.
Syria posting sounds promising as it was mentioned by CJ.
Dump the Lane family apart from Lulu. I think she has promise.
Anyway just saying. Sleep tight ladies. Glorious day here in Christchurch NZSmile

Ilovelblue · 10/10/2016 16:44

Very, very quiet on here today ladies?

Rhubarb01 · 10/10/2016 17:54

Hi ilove

Full, busy day at work today and I am always in radio silence when not at home, no lurking possible etc. It is probably a blessing in disguise considering some of the deranged witterings I utter on here when I am at home.

Well, to utter one of my favourite sayings - its's all very lacklustre isn't it? Not sure what to do with myself to be honest. Any entertaining suggestions welcome!

Rhubarb01 · 10/10/2016 18:01

Ok hands up - how many of us are eagerly awaiting delivery of Series 2 of Our Girl next Monday? Who was seduced into purchasing it by episode 2?

MaddieMoo82 · 10/10/2016 18:05

Busy old day ilove looking after sils children. They are lovely but makes me very content with my one!
Agree with trish that if CJ appears I reckon he will major but I would like him still to appear even it is with minimal lines. Even just a bit of CJ makes me happy!

MaddieMoo82 · 10/10/2016 18:06

Didn't buy as couldn't afford it at the time rhu but may get it a few months time.... when it's reduced in tesco

Rhubarb01 · 10/10/2016 18:26

Well I may try a binge watch when it arrives to see what effect that has. I think it may be at is best in that format.

I'm just remembering the feverish excitement when series 1 came out on DVD. That seems like a long time ago now - probably because it was.

icemistOBE · 10/10/2016 18:29

I am eagerly awaiting mine ilove Grin Cannot wait!!
