I'm trying to work out what I would like from series 3. It's a harder task than I thought Rhu and I think it's partly because I wasn't as disappointed as most of you seemed to be with the series which has just ended. I enjoyed it, warts and all. Perhaps I am more easily pleased and I know I set my expectations differently than some of you seemed to do.
I agree with everyone who's said they want more of a military theme. When you cast your mind back, we had men in uniform in every episode of the first series and we only saw the Dawes family in episode 3 and then again part way through the final episode. The banter amongst Two Section was one of the highlights and although it was quite amusing in the first episode and little bits of the third, there was little else to commend Two Section to us, other than they were there as a link between both series and to appease us as TG knew we liked them.
Talking of family, please get rid of the parents, especially Georgie's mother. I am still convinced she was more in love with the idea of having a doctor as a son in law than she was ever concerned about Georgie's wellbeing. She was incredibly irritating.
As much as I am a huge fan of CJ which obviously goes without saying, I think we are all agreed that the part he had this time did him few favours. I thought he was good in the second episode with his open hostility to Elvis and there were odd scenes in episode 3, for instance when he was at Georgie's bedside and when they landed back at Brize, plus how he handled Jamie in the cafe in episode 4, but other than that, his appearance was pleasing but gratuitous. OK, gratuitious it may have been but TG knew he was giving us a thrill with CJ in his suit! If he didn't have a substantial role to play in the next series, I think he would be better having been promoted to Major and out of the story altogether. Sorry ladies, I love him as much as you do but a supporting role like that isn't what we want for him.
I suspect that Elvis will return (not just for my benefit but I won't say no and I've been open about my appreciation from the start) because he clearly has a massive fan base and TG will know he will add to the viewing figures. I suppose that all depends whether Luke gets any better offers in the meantime. From an interview I saw he had done on Good Morning, he sounds as if he's another one seeking the bright lights of Hollywood. There has to be some sort of romantic interlude, so if not Elvis, I am sure there will be some other delicious hunk they can rustle up. She will just make it clear that he has either died of his injuries in that case.
As for location, yes, I agree with you all that overseas would be best but something which sprang to mind was the scenes with Nafula at the refugee camp when Georgie goes back with the SF guys. She rhymes off her favourite parts of soldiering: security at the Olympics, helping out with the floods in Cumbria (not that far from where I live) and then being at the camp with Nafula and Kicki. Instead of one continuous storyline for the next series, could it be a series of one shots, in different parts of the globe? Just an idea....
I didn't quite understand the ending where Georgie reappears at the refugee camp. Is she there in an army capacity, ie, did she not resign after all (we should be used to that with CJ resigning his commission then reappearing in series 2) or did she go out working for an NGO or what? If she is still in the army, how come she appeared on her own when previously she was surrounded by Two Section? There needs to be a proper explanation in the third series as to how Georgie does not resign - we don't want to be left guessing as we did with CJ apparently not resigning his commission.
Anyway, those are the musings from Ilove Towers tonight.
