Because we can't wait until next year for season 3. Highbrow discussion of Jamie's knees, hair and anything else Outlander

I know, extended episode during half term. Grrrr.

Dizzybintess · 16/10/2017 20:23

I was ready to punch a wall when I discovered no new episode today!! Grrr!

susurration · 16/10/2017 21:16

Seneca It needs to be something scottish themed. Mince and Tatties?

SenecaFalls · 16/10/2017 21:42

I mentioned your suggestion to DH susurration. He likes the tatties idea, but instead of mince, he plans to make meatloaf and call it "faux haggis." And Boston baked beans as another side dish in honor of Claire's Boston sojourn. It will be interesting.

So far we have six people confirmed to attend; they are all Outlander fans except one person's DH, who is clueless but who has been promised lots of single malt whisky.

I'm in charge of dessert. Any ideas?

quirkychick · 17/10/2017 07:02

Cranachan for dessert? Whisky and cream with toasted oats and raspberries, I think. A very boozy kind of trifle Grin.

I'm feeling rather bereft, as I've read all the books. Reread Voyager (so I'm at the stage of the show) and watched the last episode a few times. Trying to make do with Black Sails, in preparation for all the boats/pirates/West Indies stuff.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/10/2017 07:19

In fact, he announced this morning that he thinks we ought to have a watch party Sunday night

You’re having people round and you’re all going to watch an episode that has loads of shagging in it?

You’re more grown up braver than I am Blush

snozzlemaid · 17/10/2017 07:48

I was thinking that Courtney. I'd rather watch on my own than with a party of people.
Hope your parents aren't coming too. Could get uncomfortable.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/10/2017 08:25

Yes snozzle just like watching it with your parents! Maybe we’re too British...Confused

Lessstressedhemum · 17/10/2017 09:11

Seneca, you are brave. I am uncomfortable at the idea of watching it with DD, never mind having people round. I think I might have to get up really early and watch it on my own first. Just to see if it's suitable for her, of course.

quirkychick · 17/10/2017 09:37

My dd is nearly 12, but at that stage where even snogging on screen is "eew" so I really don't think she would watch a series based around a passionate relationship and the accompanying sex scenes Wink.

ToniMumsnet · 17/10/2017 09:50

How long is the episode? My lot get up really early, even in the holidays. I think I'll have to set my alarm for 5am.

LonelyOversharer · 17/10/2017 10:40

Tablet, earphones for me! Daren't watch it on the telly, too many interruptions. Dp doesn't do fiction, and the dc are pests!

Dd1 always walks in at the end of The Reckoning and rolls her eyes (nearly 15). Always that bit.

Outlander is mine I have to share everything, like most mums with lots of kids, but outlander is for me.

Not having to dodge the school run on monday means I can binge watch it over and over, I'll go into my work room and fake working all day. I'll just put crackers and biscuits out on the table and leave the dc to it! Disclaimer: dp will be home and dc are not little any more.

quirkychick · 17/10/2017 10:49

Lonely Outlander is mine Grin Oh, yes.

I will have to try and hide somewhere with the tablet. Dd2 has some short breaks days, I'm trying to get dd1 to organise seeing some of her friends (she breaks up on Weds!), but we often have "film night" in the holidays after dd2 goes to bed. I have the worst of both worlds, early waking 7yr old and lying in wanting to stay up nearly 12 yr old.

AngeloMysterioso · 17/10/2017 11:02

@Treadlightly how have you managed that??

Lessstressedhemum · 17/10/2017 11:21

My DD is a few weeks short of 18 and tries to police my Outlander watching by "borrowing" my tablet. Don't know why, she has a chromebook and a smartphone, she just wants to stop me watching it more than onceAngry No chance! She doesn't even like it that much but insists that we watch together. I don't think she likes the idea of mum watching hotties in kilts!
All 5 of my kids are grown, DD is second youngest. But DS4 is autistic and doesn't sleep well, also still wants to stay in with me most nights, which at 15 is a bit of a pain, so I have to grab the opportunity for my Jamie fix with both hands when it presents itself.
Toni, episode is 74 minutes long, so you might need to get up really early.

snozzlemaid · 17/10/2017 12:28

I’ll be getting up at 5 to watch my own. As it’s half term I won’t have to take dd to school so can leave later for work than usual. Plenty of time to watch first thing.
Will then rewatch with dp in the evening.
I don’t seem to feel the same amount of emotion if I’m watching with someone else.
I want to totally emerge myself in this episode so want the first watch to be alone.

breadwidow · 17/10/2017 13:15

Similar situ for me lonely

I’m working next Monday so will have to hang on til the evening I think and in fact may well save it til after DCs go to bed on Tuesday as DH is Going out. He Doesn’t get outlander at all and that way I’m guaranteed to watch in peace.

SenecaFalls · 17/10/2017 13:49

You’re having people round and you’re all going to watch an episode that has loads of shagging in it?

Haha. I hadn't even thought about that aspect of it. The people who are coming are very close friends. It's my brother and sister-in-law who are our traveling companions on trips to Scotland, another couple who have been following Outlander since the beginning, and a friend of mine from work and her husband. Four of them were at a watch party we had for the wedding episode, which is what gave my husband the idea. So we have watched shagging with most of these people before, with no ill effects. Smile

Cranachan is a great dessert idea. With Glenmorangie Lasanta, I think.

quirkychick · 17/10/2017 14:02

Seneca your party sounds great, lots of whisky Grin.

Lessstressed dd2 has ds and poss asd, lots of sympathies on the sleep from me. I will have to grab the chance when I can, too.

Treadlightly · 17/10/2017 14:40

I had to warn dh about the constant shagging!
I've been made to watch every single marvel show & film so it was my turn to suggest a series
Now we're both hooked & it's not on 😩 & we're away next week so will have to try & watch it on our phones

I haven't read any of the books, could I just start from voyager or do you think i should start from the beginning?

SenecaFalls · 17/10/2017 15:29

Just to clarify, we have watched other people shagging on TV with most of these people before.

Those of you watching on tablets and phones, all I can say is, with Outlander, I have finally figured out why they make 60 inch TVs.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/10/2017 16:15

Just to clarify, we have watched other people shagging on TV with most of these people before

Er, that sounds very...erm...nice, if a little Seventies for my tastes Wink

quirkychick · 17/10/2017 16:20

Courtney Grin

I did watch Season 1 & 2 on the large tv, it's just it's half-term and I will have very little time to myself so will most likely watch on the tablet when I can. The 2 weeks after we have my parents staying, so will be more of the same. I may rewatched on the big tv at a later date, though.

SpunkinLatte · 17/10/2017 20:19

I'm going to have to get Ds to play at a friend's house next Monday....

JuneFromBethesda · 17/10/2017 21:19

Treadlightly start from book 1! They don't take long to read. I didn't start reading them until after I'd watched the first two seasons, but I really enjoyed them - it added to my understanding of the characters and added a new dimension to the TV episodes.
