Och aye mistress (sp?)

AKAmyself · 24/09/2017 20:47

How could I forget Rachel Hunter?!? (I didn't but I forgot a) that she was a Quaker and b) anything to do with pickles)

I think we're being a bit Too harsh on book Claire. Jamie loves her so she must be ok :)

Calmanrose · 25/09/2017 11:28

Ohohohoh....murtagh! Phew.

Lessstressedhemum · 25/09/2017 12:53

Jamie's face when Lord John touched him. He was terrifying.

LonelyOversharer · 25/09/2017 13:20

Oh, I liked that episode! Nice to see Jamie smile a bit. Yukky Frank. Handled well again, the writers are very good.

On a side note, the chap who plays Lord John is verrry pretty! Not slight and blonde like the books, but cast very well I think.

So Franks snuffed it, aren't we about up to where we left off at the start of season 2? Yet they don't meet until ep6? So it must be mostly Jamie in the next 2 episodes, as Claires pretty much up to date. I shan't complain!

JuneFromBethesda · 25/09/2017 13:55

Claire has to do the research that leads her to the print shop, I guess that's what she'll be doing for the next few episodes.

susurration · 25/09/2017 16:12

Ok who has watched the new episode?

If not look away because:

WTF, MURTAGH IS STILL ALIVE! NO. (as much as I love TV Murtagh) How the hell are they going to fit him into the story now? Is he going to replace Duncan Innes? This makes no sense. The whole point is that J can't take any of his old clan or connections he fought with, with him into his new life. I thought the fact he had to make all new connections after Culloden and in Ardsmuir was supposed to be indicative of how much has changed for him and the other Scots.

AngeloMysterioso · 25/09/2017 16:31

When it said spoilers in the title I thought it meant TV spoilers, not book spoilers. Haven't read the books so didn't know about a lot of what's been discussed Sad guess I'll have to peace out of this thread

GreatWhites · 25/09/2017 16:48

Poor old Murtagh didn't look as if he had long on this earth, never mind transportation in a death ship and so many years indentured servitude.

Did anyone notice the resemblance to the witch in Snow White when he was all wrapped up? Grin

I thought Caitriona Balfe and Tobias Menzies were very very good, especially after he brought his dolly bird to the house. Frank and Claire were never going to recover from that two years apart.

LonelyOversharer · 25/09/2017 18:54

Sorry angelo this thread has always been very spoilerish, books v tv etc. It was reading this thread that got me (avidly) reading the books. Honestly there's so very very much detail in the books you'll not have gleaned that much from us.

Poor old Murtagh (I was right! Thought he'd be at ardsmuir) he did look a bit far gone. But I guess they did that to show how hard it had all been on them, as SH just looks far too healthy! Especially when he smiles...

Calmanrose · 25/09/2017 18:57

Murtagh has been fixed up though... as good as new. I sense a reunion in America.

Although was anyone else annoyed that it skipped the moment when him and Jamie saw each other for the first time in over 6 years?! I think that would have been far more moving than the Edinburgh oneGrin

susurration · 25/09/2017 21:16

Yeh i'm pretty sure they'll catch up with him in America, but I just can't work out how. How is he going to fit into the story? There must be a character from the books that we don't get to see instead, and Murtagh was so important in the first two series, that for that level of involvement to continue he either must replace Duncan Innes, or he'll live at FR but in what capacity? Just as an extra person pitching along on all of the adventures?

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 25/09/2017 21:16

Murtagh is alive! I’m so happy Grin They had better not kill him off now for more emotional impact or else.

I actually felt really sorry for Frank in this episode. As hard as it was for Claire, it was hard for Frank too. Glad they didn’t make him out to be as much of twat as book Frank.

Middleoftheroad · 25/09/2017 21:44

I felt sorry for both Claire and Frank. I've watched it twice now (I always watch it on Kodi on sun). It spanned such a big chunk of time but there's lots of ground to cover I guess.

There will be a focus on both Claire and Jamie next week, the synopsis mentions both. It does indeed catch up to where we left Claire and her daughter in the last season, researching what happened to J.

Claire's hair and clothes were fab and I love the scenes and house in Boston, I'd love to live there (but clearly prefer boggy highlands if Jamie were there)

DryWhiteagainW · 25/09/2017 22:47

Gosh I thought Murtagh was going to be executed for having the tartan.....that did happen in the book to a prisoner didn't it?

Hellwater is just as I'd imagined. Look forward to that episode.

David Berry is perfect as Lord John .......I really liked Hal in the later books.

Loved it.

steff13 · 26/09/2017 00:51

I just started watching this season. I'm heartbroken over Rupert. 😔

I feel sorry for Frank. It's gotta be hard when your wife gets herself knocked up by a hot Scot.

wellyclad · 26/09/2017 01:35

Just caught up with the most recent episode

Although I get that they have a hell of a lot of ground to cover in just a few episodes - does anyone think that the relationship between Jamie and John at Ardsmuir was rushed a bit too much? Or do you think it could be expanded a bit more in flashbacks in future episodes?

gamerwidow · 26/09/2017 06:39

Much better episode this week I liked LJG. It was a bit rushed but they've got a lot to get through on Jamie's side of the story. Interesting choice to have the animosity between LJG and J resolved before they get to Helwater. In the book J is furious with him for splitting him up from his men for years and doesn't realise the massive favour LJG has done him until much later. I can see why they did it but it does over simplify the actions of LJG who is scrupulously honourable to J even when J is being a total arse to him.

Drywhite no one was executed for having tartan in the book but Jamie did take a flogging for a young prisoner caught with tartan in order to force LJG to order the punishment to severe any good feeling between them. They couldn't show it in the episode I think because there wasn't time to show how much it hurt LJG to order the flogging and it would have made him look as bad as the other red coats.

Lessstressedhemum · 26/09/2017 10:27

I think the relationship with John Grey was very rushed. Perhaps they'll show more in flashback. Hopefully, they will show Jamie going to the island looking for Claire later as well. The loss on his face when LJG refused to kill him was awful. Something was lost, I think, by not being able to show how that relationship developed.

Frank was a total git in this episode. Imagine bringing your fancy woman home when your wife and all her friends are there. And telling her he wouldn't divorce her because he didn't trust her to give him access to Brianna. There's a reason I don't like him.

DryWhiteagainW · 26/09/2017 19:33

goodbye Tobias

JuneFromBethesda · 26/09/2017 21:32

Oh WOW. This just gets better with every episode. Part of me wishes I could resist watching until the whole season is available, but then I wouldn't get to discuss it with you lovely lot Smile

Sam Heughan is magnificent. I don't just mean to look at Grin but he is such a good actor. Amazing.

JuneFromBethesda · 26/09/2017 21:35

(I had many more coherent thoughts while I was watching the episode but I can't think of any now!)

JuneFromBethesda · 26/09/2017 21:56

One of my less profound thoughts was how awful Claire's 1960s wig is Grin

DryWhiteagainW · 26/09/2017 22:17

Almost as bad as Jamie the cave dweller's

DryWhiteagainW · 26/09/2017 22:18

I think we'll see RR next week.......Smile
