Do they have a constant power cut in their house? Sorry, I am enjoying this but It bugs me how they are always in the kitchen in the dark!!

poppopp · 11/10/2016 21:53

AAAAAAGHHH

HelenaDove · 11/10/2016 21:54

Looks to me like he did it but he got off.

mellowyellow1 · 11/10/2016 21:56

Gutted he got off his friend covered for him!

Destinysdaughter · 11/10/2016 21:58

Of course he fucking did it. The criminal justice system is not fit for purpose when it comes to prosecuting rape and sexual violence. 6% conviction rate of reported rapes. It's a fucking joke!!!

But not funny...

poppopp · 11/10/2016 22:02

Depressingly realistic.

Fedupofallthemud · 11/10/2016 22:03

I suspect he abused his daughter too. Very upsetting that he got off but agree with above 6% conviction rate says how hard it is to convince a jury

Lottapianos · 11/10/2016 22:05

'Depressingly realistic.'

Totally agree. Still very unsettled by his interaction with his daughter, it was strongly suggested there was something very inappropriate about their relationship. Very disturbing, brilliantly done series

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 11/10/2016 22:07

Okay. I did end up watching it.
spoilers
So...he was guilty.
Wife knew he was guilty so left his sorry arse.
His double act partner knew it was rape but said nothing.
He lied in court as it would mean his name was synonymous with a rapist.
His daughter had been abused??
His wife knew his patner had perjured himself and was disgusted so no future for them either.

^ Sorry. Meant to ask, have I drawn the right conclusions?
Am in Germany, no chance of seeing other three episodes.

mellowyellow1 · 11/10/2016 22:09

Agree the unspoken between him and his daughter was very unsettling. Great acting by all!

Janus · 11/10/2016 22:14

Almost difficult to watch lots of that but it was done so well.
Yes, he was guilty and Marie left but wouldn't she take her daughter?

Lottapianos · 11/10/2016 22:20

I wish Marie had been given more of a definitive ending, rather than just disappearing into thin air.

southeastdweller · 11/10/2016 22:27

God that was uncomfortable viewing, especially the scene where the rape in the trailer was heard, but so terrifically done in all respects just like the previous three episodes.

TroysMammy · 11/10/2016 22:37

Wasn't she planning on leaving in a previous episode? She had a suitcase packed but he came home with the daughter in tow.

colouringinagain · 11/10/2016 22:54

Really excellent writing and acting all round. Like others have said extremely uncomfortable viewing. I definitely think that RC abused his daughter in some way. Dees body language with him has been very agitated, apart from this week when she's got all pretty and friendly. Something not right there.

Awful to see the women on trial listening to the not guilty verdict, a sadly realistic portrayal of the ineffective legal system for these types of cases.

Very thought-provoking.

UnGoogleable · 11/10/2016 23:20

Aargh can someone tell me what happened right at the end? My Sky box cocked up, it cut off as he was outside shouting his wife's name - was that the ending?

I thought it was really good - and yes, so depressingly realistic.

There was so much left unsaid - his daughter, why did she hate her mother? Why was she so disturbed?

His partner - lied for him to save his own reputation I think.

How very sad

colouringinagain · 11/10/2016 23:24

That was the end Ungoogleable!

I agree completely re his partner, but yes lots unanswered re his daughter.

CeeBeeBee · 11/10/2016 23:50

There is no doubt that he did it and those closest to him also knew but chose to deny it for their own reasons. When Carl insisted that he didn't remember that night, that was when the penny dropped for Marie and all the viewers at home. Carl said nothing, not out of loyalty because after all, he slept with Marie, but to stop his name from being dragged into it.

His daughter knew because of what she saw in the flashback. Perhaps as a young girl, she had a bond with her father because she was jealous of Christina getting attention from him, so clung to him? Or perhaps she was cold towards her mum because she felt it was her fault for not protecting her? I agree that the unknown/unsaid between them is eerie.

Well, I thought that was very well done and the acting was excellent.

prh47bridge · 11/10/2016 23:58

6% conviction rate says how hard it is to convince a jury

No it doesn't. Where a jury gets to decide the case the conviction rate is similar to other major crimes - close to 50%. The 6% figure shows how difficult it is to get a case to court. The primary reason for cases not making it through is victims withdrawing their allegation.

NinjaFeminist · 12/10/2016 00:32

Robbie Coltrane's facial expressions- the close ups where his face told the story- that acting was immense. The 1st one that I think told us who he was, was earlier in the 1st episode when he was looking at his computer while his wife was in bed. All the other scenes where we were guessing if he did it or not, was he being genuine or not, how much of a bastard was he etc. - I think that scene really told us who & what he was.

Brilliantly acted - it really makes me want to see more of RC.

The style of the filming was really cold & impersonal - their home never felt warm or inviting (which I think was deliberate). It's probably a stunning home but I never once felt it was the sort of place you'd feel comfortable in.
