I really enjoyed this. The acting and writing were brilliant. Right now I reckon he definitely did it, but is that all about to change, I wonder...?

NoFuchsGiven · 21/09/2016 16:12

Is this a series or a one off?

Lottapianos · 21/09/2016 16:21

Last night was part 1 of 4

southeastdweller · 21/09/2016 18:16

I was also a bit Hmm about the cop announcing the allegation on the doorstep. I think she was so cheery with him (initially) in the interview room as that was her tactic to put him on the back foot.

Fab acting from the two leads - within just a few minutes I forgot I was seeing 'Julie Walters' and 'Robbie Coltrane'.

AnyFucker · 21/09/2016 18:22

I thought it was boring

I have up after half an hour and went back to Dexter

Oblomov16 · 21/09/2016 18:25

Watched it now. Not sure what to make of it.

MrsBotox · 21/09/2016 18:47

I think the point is that he may not be a 'nice' man and he is a cheat and a porn-user but that doesn't necessarily make him a rapist. People can make judgements about someone's guilt because they disapprove of his character and not on the evidence. Look at some of the recent historical abuse witch-hunts.
The daughter is probably going to be revealed as a victim of sexual abuse - real or not - the point is no one in these cases ever knows the truth except the two people involved at the time.
I expect the viewers won't ever know the truth even by the end of episode four.

Asheth · 21/09/2016 23:44

I think the cheating and porn could go either way. Either it's saying that while these things may be abhorrent, they're not illegal, but now that it's out in the public his image is going to be wrecked anyway. So he pays the price even though he is innocent of a crime.

Or it's going to be a sign of how he see's women as sexual objects. So he is guilty of rape and assault, but in his own mind he genuinely believes he is innocent because he just sees most women as there to cater for his desires.

Wingedharpy · 22/09/2016 20:01

And, of course, his wife continually turning a blind eye to his numerous dalliances just helps to confirm that women are there for his use - however he chooses to use them.
Interesting to see how it pans out.

Dozyoldtwonk · 22/09/2016 21:11

Really enjoyed this, just watched again on catch up with DH.

DH couldn't help hypothesising who Robbie Coltrane's character may be based on in real life - he's convinced there is someone (well known) they have closely based his character on. I haven't decided if I agree; I think it is more a reflection of current affairs / media interest & I like the different perspective that it's portraying - the side of the accused.

EachandEveryone · 22/09/2016 22:00

I agree with your DH.

southeastdweller · 25/09/2016 11:27

I followed all the arrests in the news for Yewtree and don't think it was based on anyone in particular so agree with Dozy that the writer is reflecting what happened in a more general way.

notthebees · 25/09/2016 11:34

I managed about 20 minutes. It was tedious.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/09/2016 13:29

Just watching the first episode now.

Will read thread and report back after!

SlinkyB · 26/09/2016 22:51

What did you think Dame?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/09/2016 07:53

I was hooked! I loathe RC so well cast imo, the shower scene at the end was so disturbing. Can't wait for the next one.

I'm going to watch.

Destinysdaughter · 27/09/2016 20:00

There's no such thing as a 'witch hunt'. The police can only respond to allegations that have been brought to them. The reason why they have exploded is that finally, many pp realise that after years of not speaking out, victims of abuse realise that they may now be heard and listened to and taken seriously. Aprox 85,000 women are raped every year, a minority of which actually report it and only a fraction of those cases ever result in a conviction. It pisses me off TBH that so much attention is paid to the 2% that may be subject to false allegations and not the thousands of pp who have their lives destroyed by being a victim of sexual violence.

What about a drama that's about them..?

GuinefortGrey · 27/09/2016 21:32

I missed the first episode but started watching tonight by accident (couldn't be bothered to change channel after Location!). Blown away by the incredible acting and got totally drawn in. RC & JW are excellent and the actor playing the daughter is brilliant I think.
