Yes! I love Littlefinger's scheming.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 07/06/2016 16:45

I wonder if the letter is directly to the son (blank moment here...) rather than LF?

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/06/2016 17:01

Ashara killed herself didn't she, jumped from a tower after having a still born daughter?

WeDoNotSow · 07/06/2016 17:17

Random but... I'm thinking of re-reading the books character by character? Has anyone done this??

CaitAgusMadra · 07/06/2016 17:20

My mistake re. hair colour. In the first book Cat says Ashara was "tall and fair"... obviously fair in the beautiful sense rather than blonde.

In the books only Barristan thinks of her stillborn daughter. None of the other POVs where she is mentioned talk about a pregnancy or child

Middleoftheroad · 07/06/2016 17:29

Bloody work gets in way of my posting but have just caught up on day's musings....

Just going back to Brienne and Renly...there was a moment in the show when Jaime teased her for it saying Renly would sit on an iron throne only if it were made out of cocks (or sthg equally charming). Had to change my Tena after that one!Grin

Re this week. Little Lyanna Mormont initially discounted Jon and Sansa's claim to the North yet they mentioned Rickon so why didn't that sway her? Nowt wrong with his legacy (unless his skin has been perled by Ramsey's apple corer of course)

The players make Tyrion look like the bad guy so maybe they are spreading propaganda.

Thanks for the background Every. I really need it. Welcome lurkers - Momand Yr binge reading is impressive Smile

twocatsandatoddler · 07/06/2016 17:39

Hi, I'm a lurker too! Just discovered these threads but been enjoying them the last few weeks.
On the Arya theories, don't the faceless men use the faces of the people they kill when they're being someone else? So how would Ja'qen (or anyone else) be able to impersonate Arya without having peeled her face off? Or have I got it wrong? I do think she's probably not dead otherwise what would be the point of the rest of that scene where she walked around bleeding, surely they'd have just left it as her bleeding in the water.

CaitAgusMadra · 07/06/2016 17:51

True, we did see Jaqen peeling off a face in the last ep.

Unless it's a glamour /illusion as per Melisandre.

Speaking of her, where has she been the last few episodes? Surely she would want to be with Jon for the battle

RJnomore1 · 07/06/2016 17:58

I don't think Jon will be asharas child in the series at least. Six series in and I don't think she has been mentioned - I'd be a bit annoyed if that was thrown in now. Lyanna has been mentioned from the very start when Robert visited her crypt so her having a child would be a better fit.

TheNorthRemembers · 07/06/2016 18:12

middleoftheroad You made me laugh out loud. Those were really good conversations between Jaime and Brienne. A bit like how Bronn teased Jaime about putting his money on the Blackfish. I can't believe Jaime is still pining after Cersei in the trailer for the next episode. They really missed an opportunity there.

It is great to have more opinions and ideas from all the lurkers.

I have only recently realised Ashara had dark hair. Otherwise the Daynes are meant to look Valyrian. But she did not.
Yes, Ashara did apparently kill herself. Barristan would not have seen her pregnant, as she was sent home to Starfall after she "was dishonoured".
That may be the reason for persistent theories that in fact Aerys was the father of her child. (I do not believe that as Aerys disliked dark-haired Dornish-looking people and preferred blondes like Joanna Lannister.) Queen Rhaella also sent Joanna Lannister home years earlier, as she felt that Aerys continued to be too close to her.

Wedonotsow on the ASOIAF website lots of people do Tyrion reread of Arya reread. I have only ever done the reverse, where I missed out certain chapters I found too boring. Blush

EverySongbirdSays · 07/06/2016 19:12

Yeah the argument is where she would have had a Lemon Tree

With why wouldn't he have told Cat, well it comes with a lot of explaining.

This is Brandon's bastard?

By who?

Ashara Dayne

When did you find out he existed?

When I was swapping Lyanna's secret targaryen baby

But that means Jon has a claim to the throne.

Oh fuck.

The divergence from the book is kind of weird for Brienne/Jamie

Book : Jamie no longer gives a fuck for Cersei and has flounced. Brienne arrives in a short chapter from which I had inferred Stoneheart had sent her to lure him to his death.

Show : Completely different

It makes sense in the book for Jamie to be the Valonquar but they havent gone that way yet. The Valonquar could always be The Hound of course.

Edmure behaves like a twat when his father is dying. Cat and the Blackfish more or less agree that he is a twat - I reckon that's why he makes no move to save him. He also knows that the Freys in the siege are spineless tossers - perhaps a bit different now Jaime and Bronn have turned up

TheNorthRemembers · 07/06/2016 19:59

In the book Jaime's battle plan (Frey's in the firing line and Lannisters at the back) and his trebuchet speech to Edmure prove how much he changed and became a politician / commander (ie Tywin) and not the impulsive person who was in the Whispering Wood chasing Robb and shouting his name even after he was encircled and essentially captured.

"No one can fault Lannister on his courage," Glover said. "When he saw that he was lost, he rallied his retainers and fought his way up the valley, hoping to reach Lord Robb and cut him down. And almost did."
"He mislaid his sword in Eddard Karstark's neck, after he took Torrhen's hand off and split Daryn Hornwood's skull open," Robb said. "All the time he was shouting for me. If they hadn't tried to stop him - "

They are nearly all younger brothers from Euron, Theon, book Loras, Kevan, Ramsay, Edmure, Brynden Bloodraven Rivers, Gendry, Rickon, Bran, Jon depending on his parentage, to the Blackfish (maybe even Varys to Illyrio, though that may be brother-in-law). We also had an Elder Brother in the book. Older brothers have a very short life expectancy in GoT world.

I was really looking forward to the Lannister reunion with the simmering resentment and love between Jaime and Tyrion, but in the show it can't happen that way.

TheNorthRemembers · 07/06/2016 20:06

Actually they do say Jon looks like Lyanna. They constantly say that Arya very closely resembles Jon (that is what hurts Cat the most that her beloved Robb, Sansa, Bran and Rickon do not look Stark at all), and Ned thinks Arya looks a lot like Lyanna. The theory is that by the Mercy chapter Arya is probably a spitting image of Lyanna and very beautiful, she just does not know it herself.

EverySongbirdSays · 07/06/2016 20:15

I really do want it not to be JUST R+L= J now just because the whole world and his dog thinks it IS R + L = J it would be GREAT if it was something more.

SausageSmuggler · 07/06/2016 20:35

The problem is there are so many fan theories now, some of them are going to be spot on. I reckon the writers are cursing social media Grin

ILikeToClean · 07/06/2016 21:13

Enjoying all the Arya theories and think one must be right as all of her scenes seemed odd and out of character. Just looked at the trailer for next week again, looks like it's the waif (or someone fair) who originally jumps and then turns into Arya as she leaps off, what do you think?

Also in the trailer Pod has a knife to his throat - noooo love Pod!

Does anyone watch Thronecast - Syrio actor was on last night and he says he knows nothing about being Jaqen...hopefully he's lying Smile

SausageSmuggler · 07/06/2016 21:52

Would they bring Syrio back after all this time?

Middleoftheroad · 07/06/2016 21:58

North the Brienne/Jaime banter is a wasted opportunity.

I did see the Syrio actor on Thronecast and he did seem in the dark.

One YT preview did show that we still havent seen some of the s6 trailer shots. Littlefinger (how I miss him) in the snow and Sansa on horseback in snow - next episode's meeting?

Also, Walder Frey (how I loathe him) toasting something at his large family celebration. The re-capturing of Riverrun?

TheNorthRemembers · 07/06/2016 22:01

Iliketoclean Have a look who is holding the knife at Pod's neck. They are trolling us. Again.

EverySongbird I do not know what the truth is, and as long as it is plausible I am OK with any theory coming true.

Middleoftheroad · 07/06/2016 22:03

Iliketoclean True, the waif is initally seen running and smiling.

Think it's Bromn who (playfully?) has Pod in headlock? Mind you, Brienne looks stressed on the boat. And possibly without her right hand man? Noooo.....Shock

ILikeToClean · 07/06/2016 22:10

The trailers like to mess with our heads! Hope Pod is ok.

NewMinouMinou · 07/06/2016 22:50

I thought that when Arya was running through the streets it seemed she was invisible.

EverySongbirdSays · 07/06/2016 23:01

Pod and Bronn are pals, aren't they?
