That's true actually. I need to rewatch I think!

Middleoftheroad · 12/06/2016 19:51

Ok, so just started book two. With all the speculation, I'm reading the Jaqen bits with interest. I thought this was interesting...

It's bit hard to read so: "^Something about the way he (Jaqen) talked reminded her (Arya) of Syrio; it was the same, yet different too.
^
Of course, they both hail from Braavos, but curious none the less.

Middleoftheroad · 12/06/2016 19:56

Oh and they 'both' worship the many faced God.

Or could be that they are one. Dum, dum, dum!

Trills · 12/06/2016 20:24

But to a kid from a small place in the rural North (or not small in itself but not much thoroughfare or new people) is this not the equivalent of her meeting two people from Egypt and noting that they have similar accents and are both Muslim?

BelfastBloke · 12/06/2016 21:02

Don't forget the Mountain is known as Robert Strong in the books; but not in the show.

On IMDB he's listed for the TV series as Gregor Clegane, not Robert Strong.

I almost couldn't breathe seeing that picture of the silhouette... I have been a huge advocate of this theory for years and years and I am almost giddy at the thought. SF was my fave character and Miltos nailed him - made him better, I'd say. I will literally have a fit if this pans out.

I did dislike the tone of the article though - a bit too 'I'm too cool for school' imo. All of the returns of characters so far have been canon or heavily implied by canon, so hardly a sign of desperation on the show's part. I guess in the book it's more subtle and padded out by a billion more characters who die and stay dead, so isn't so glaring.

I hate the 'it's pandering to fan fiction' whining too (apologies if anyone on this thread has said this - I'm aiming this comment squarely at news articles). Hugely popular book and FB series with a fuck-tonne of mysteries = a huge amount of speculation and theorising based on friggin' clues the author has put in place due to the fact he isn't a hack and therefore it stands to reason that people, analysing on such a scale, will guess many twists! What's more likely - the writers lifted whole plots on fan theories just to keep fans happy OR that they're following plots given to them by the author that have been foreshadowed in the works they are adapting? Hmmm...

maggiso · 12/06/2016 21:20

Wasn't there a scene where the head of a dwarf is brought (hoping for the reward for killing Tyrion) and Tyburn asks if he could have it as he has a use for it? I cannot remember if there is a similar scene in the books. Perhaps the reconstituted mountains' head is from one of those heads - or not since the bit about the mountains head is not mentioned in the TV version.
I have just realized I will have to wait nearly 2 months to see episode 10, as I will be away!

QueenOfThorns · 12/06/2016 22:08

I agree with BelfastBloke - they're not pretending he's anyone other than the Mountain on the TV, so maybe he just has his own head. But in that case, why does he never take his helmet off? I really don't want him to - whatever is in there is bound to be nasty!

I hadn't realised that show Loras isn't in the Kingsguard. That's interesting!

And I reiterate my point about Jaime from the last thread. He's been booted from the Kingsguard, so should be Lord Jaime now, shouldn't he? As far as I remember, the Mad King made him Kingsguard ostensibly to reward him for something, but really to get at Tywin (because of Joanna?) by taking away his heir.

SerJorahsSecondChoice · 12/06/2016 22:20

Another character who died in books and on screen was spotted filming - they look different in terms of style and clothes but were filming with a relevant character. I've seen photos. This has not been shown yet though. I'm guessing it won't be a return of the character though - maybe a dream or a glamour...

EverySongbirdSays · 12/06/2016 22:34

Can you PM me Jorah?

Anyone staying up with me tonight? I'm guessing not as the thread is so quiet. I hope so though - there were 3 of us last week, it was fun.
