Lyanna's mother died fighting for Jon Snow.

Her father is supposed to be none of your business, I am a fierce she-bear - my daughter will inherit my island - rawar

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 12/06/2016 10:29

Hi - am finally up to date watched all five and a bit seasons over the last five weeks so hope it's okay to join in Grin

I can't believe they killed Lovejoy! Shock

I wonder if Lyanna is Jorah's niece? Or whether she was left to rule when Jorah was exiled?

Trills · 12/06/2016 10:37

Jorah has been exiled for AGES.

Maege (Lyanna's mother) is Jorah's aunt, and the sister of the old Lord Commander of the Night's Watch.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/06/2016 11:04

The ASOIAF wiki page about House Mormont seems to indicate that GOT has diverged from the book here, but not in any dealbreaking detail.

In both book and TV, Jeor was Lord Mormont at the time of Robert's Rebellion and then went off to the Night's Watch. Jorah took over but fled rather than be executed by Ned Stark.

His aunt Maege then took over.

Her heir(ess) was her daughter Dacey. Dacey died at the Red Wedding.

In the book, Maege has five children in all. After Dacey the next eldest is Alysane, who has two children. Alysane is therefore either the heir or the Lady of Bear Island at the moment in the book. Alysane's younger siblings are Lyra, Jorelle and Lyanna. Lyra and Jorelle are with Maege seeking out the crannogmen (Howland Reed's people). Lyanna is the only one on Bear Island and is therefore deputising for her mother or sister.

In the TV series, for obvious reasons, they've decided to simplify all that and just go straight to Lyanna as Lady of Bear Island in her own right.

TheNorthRemembers · 12/06/2016 12:57

Jorah has forfeited his claim to Bear Island when he ran away from the law. He could though take the black. That is what his father's last wish was. Jorah or book Jaime would make an awesome lord commander.

Trills · 12/06/2016 12:59

I don't think Jorah would make a great Lord Commander.

He cares more for his own wants than for protecting people.

He was spying on Dany for Varys because he hoped he would be pardoned and allowed to go home.

He then changed his mind and follows Dany because he's in love with her.

Cerseirys · 12/06/2016 13:07

book Jaime would make an awesome lord commander

I wonder if that's GRRM's endgame for Jaime? I don't think there's a HEA with Brienne on the cards as GRRM doesn't do HEAa!

QueenOfThorns · 12/06/2016 14:20

Hmmm, I like this one better than the Arya theory, but I'm not convinced. She'd need to be more ginger Grin

I have a question: if we assume that Cleganebowl is Cersei's trial by combat, which is supposed to happen soonish, how does the Hound get from where he is now to being the Faith's champion?

QueenOfThorns · 12/06/2016 14:23

Also, I agree that Jaime would be a good Lord Commander (although I thought it would end up being Stannis), but after everything is settled and the White Walkers are presumably no more, will there still be a need for a Night's Watch? The Wall will come down next season, I reckon.

Mumanddadtoone · 12/06/2016 14:39

Can soneone please tell me this new theory or tell me where to find it, thanks

EverySongbirdSays · 12/06/2016 15:33

Wait, wait, I'm here, I've only just come online today.

It's Alt Shift X

His videos explaining stuff are very good. It's a review of Episode 7, so no strict spoilers, but CLICK AT YOUR PERIL and do not blame the Songbird! Grin

Mumanddadtoone · 12/06/2016 16:09

Thank you Songbird, I'm so excited for tomorrow's episode, won't get to watch it till I've dropped ds at school but come 10am, my phones getting turned off so no distractions

CaitAgusMadra · 12/06/2016 16:46

Thanks songbird. I guess we'll know soon enough what's going on.

I still have a niggling suspicion that Melisandre's absence for the last couple eps will turn out to be significant

Middleoftheroad · 12/06/2016 18:10

Thanks Every I love a good theory!

Maybe the Hound represents the seven because Lovejoy worshipped that faith? Or maybe he finds out Ser Robert Strong is part Mountain and wants to have another one to one combat?

EverySongbirdSays · 12/06/2016 18:36

Do you know what will really fucking upset me like properly?

If zombie Mountains head turns out to be Robb Starks Sad

OP posts:
Trills · 12/06/2016 18:41

Zombie mountain is all Mountain, just reanimated.

There would be no gain for anyone in taking Robb's head all the way to down to King's Landing.

It might rot on the way
We don't know the exact timings - it might have had to wait around
This was an experimental procedure at best - you want to make it as simple as possible
A zombie with Robb's brain in it might be less easy to control than a zombie made from someone who was accustomed to taking your orders

OlennasWimple · 12/06/2016 18:44

The Mountain was decapitated was he? So why would he need a new head?

OlennasWimple · 12/06/2016 18:44

*wasn't...

EverySongbirdSays · 12/06/2016 19:05

Isn't the theory that he's now known as Robert Strong because it's NOT his head though?

OP posts:
RJnomore1 · 12/06/2016 19:16

Envy.

Boak.

MaterofDragons · 12/06/2016 19:18

So he's got Robb's name and his head? Confused

Trills · 12/06/2016 19:19

I thought it was a generic hide-who-he-really-is name.

Probably making a joke about him being a better protector for Cersei than Robert Baratheon ever was.

Trills · 12/06/2016 19:24

I've just rediscovered that in the BOOKS it's said that the Mountain's head is sent to Doran Martell.

On the show there was no mention of this though. We spent enough time pissing about in Dorne with grumpy Ellaria and the Sand Snakes that if the Mountain's head had been there we would have known of it.

So it's a good book theory, but if they were going to make it be a thing on the show we would at least have had a throwaway line that coming back to Dorne with his head was not good enough to satisfy justice.

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/06/2016 19:25

It annoys me that the other Tyrell sibling has been left out. Not because he has yet featured in person in the books but because Loras is a member of the Kingsguard and keeps being referred to as the "heir of High Garden". Well he can't be because the Kings Guard cannot inherit title or marry. Much like the Nights Watch.

EverySongbirdSays · 12/06/2016 19:43

So, Zombie Mountain is Mountains Strength plus Robb's head = Robert Strong.

RE Loras I think this is another case where they've simplified. I can't remember them ever portraying show Loras as Kingsguard, unless as Kingsguard to Renly which doesn't count. Renly never sat the Iron Throne. Cersei was supposed to go off and be the Lady of Highgarden a couple of seasons ago. Remember all the cutting remarks about whether she was too past it to produce an heir?
