GAME OF THRONES S6 E7 - SPOILERS AND FAN THEORY DISCUSSION WARNING 2AM SHOWING ONWARDS
iisme · 07/06/2016 07:17

I'm really disappointed in the North. So much for 'the north remembers'. The north doesn't give a fuck and just wants to save its own skin. No GNV then.

Not sure whether the Blackfish gives a shit about Edmure or not. I think he does give a a shit. He just doesn't want Jaime to know that.

Kings Landings is interesting for once. I really can't see how Margaery is playing this - what is she hoping to achieve? Could be good.

Dunno about Ayra. She's been stabbed several times in the stomach. Meeting a friendly actress isn't going to help her now. She needs serious magic to sort that out - or some complicated twist which means things aren't want they seem ...

Middleoftheroad · 07/06/2016 07:27

Every for those of us who are just finishing book one (ahem) can you please fill us in on these pairings/backgrounds?
Mom You read all books in a month? I am slower than Ser Davos at the mo......

Mumanddadtoone · 07/06/2016 07:58

Middle, yes I totally binged on them, got about 50 pages of the final book to go so should be finished by tonight, I've been watching the series and reading the books for about 8 hours a day! 4 hours whilst ds is at school and another 4 hours once he's in bed, I've totally neglected housework Blush.

BelfastBloke · 07/06/2016 08:05

Blackfish not giving a fuck about Edmure is not the same as not giving a fuck about Sansa and Jon. If he genuinely believes Edmure is screwed anyway, tactically he might as well forget about him.

It makes sense NOT to act as if hostages change anything. Even if you do actually care.

MaterofDragons · 07/06/2016 08:07

Love that feery!

Ashara is part targaryan right? So both Dany and Jon are Stark/Targaryan (Dornish for Jon)

Would explain why Eddard went batshit at Robert when he believed the young Targaryans had been slaughtered.

MustStopAndThinkBeforePosting · 07/06/2016 08:34

Not sure whether the Blackfish gives a shit about Edmure or not. I think he does give a a shit. He just doesn't want Jaime to know that.

I thought there was a "significant look" exchanged between Blackfish and Edmure which I would have translated as
B: You aren't the kind of man who would want his kin to hand over a castle to the enemy just to save his own neck, are you?
E: Of course not. You keep the castle. I know I am effectively already dead at this point.

I think I am a long-term lurker. I read all these threads but don't remember whether I have contributed before.

Felascloak · 07/06/2016 09:52

Hello! Just came on to say intetesting about arya going to the actors. In medieval times plays were used to spread dissent/cause rebellions so I was wondering if that's what the actors were doing. The plays did make the lannisters look like idiots.

BelfastBloke · 07/06/2016 09:57

Actually the play made Ned Stark look like an idiot.

It made Cersei considerably more sympathetic.

Felascloak · 07/06/2016 09:59

Why? I thought it made them all seem pretty ineffectual...

LaserShark · 07/06/2016 10:05

I am quite hopelessly lost with all the theories and complexities. I struggle to keep up with all the characters. There has got to be a proper twist in store for Arya - I feel like they need to justify her storyline somehow and make it really spectacular. I assumed whilst watching that the waif was disguised as Arya and the real Arya killed her wearing the waif's face but I don't think that works. Have also read the Reddit theory and it's interesting but I sort of hope it's not true. I really want Arya to reclaim her Stark identity and go and kick some Bolton/Lannister/White Walker/whoever else is unpleasant ass. But after Jon's stabbing and resurrection, it feels a bit lame to have an Arya stabbing and then recovery/resurrection - I want them to surprise me! But also for Arya to survive.

Jaime seemed to serious lack conviction in his negotiations - I don't think his heart is in this siege.

RoxytheRexy · 07/06/2016 10:06

Long time lurker answering the call!

I watch the episode when the baby has gone to bed so I can never join in love. I look forward to reading this thread as much as watching the episode.

I'm loving the Arya theories. She's my fave. I was sick of her mopping and fighting with a big stick. Plus Sansa stop it. As soon as I start to like you you go and do something that makes me go eurgh.

I'm going back to lurking now

CoffeeAndOranges · 07/06/2016 10:17

I'm still Shock at the stabbing but having read a few Reddit theories I realise there was something very weird about the whole scene (am not alert enough at 10pm to notice these things when watching). I definitely think there has to be some twist - else why have it as the cliffhanger? Why not just show her as dead straight away a la Lovejoy? Although GRRM seems happy to discard characters, no matter how 'important' they are, I feel that Arya just can't die right now, she needs to reclaim the Stark name and go and fight with Jon etc. We've come too far with her and sat through too many tedious Jaqen scenes for it to all end now.

I feel certain she has a very key role to play.

EverySongbirdSays · 07/06/2016 10:22

In the book the repeated whispers around Winterfell until Ned silences them are that he has acknowledged Jon because his mother was Ashara Dayne who he apparently looks like. It is never said that Jon looks like Lyanna.

Dany reminisces about her childhood featuring trees, a lemon tree specifically and a small house with a red door.

When Arthur Dayne dies his sword vanishes.

It's believed in this theory that Ned took baby Dany and the sword back to Dorne and once getting there found that his elder brother who was dead and was previously engaged to Cat Tully before him had a bastard by Ashara - a baby swap of Dany who was obviously Targaryen and Jon who was obviously Stark took place.

This could also pave the way for a Dany Jon supercouple as first cousins among royalty is not like siblings

What then happened to Ashara is also a mystery

lovelychops · 07/06/2016 10:26

So many theories !!
I'm trying to keep up...

Don't have anything useful to contribute, other than I LOVE that everyone on here refers to Ian McShane's character as love joy and no one bats an eyelid. Smile

Felascloak · 07/06/2016 10:36

I just read the waif theory and I don't think so. It seems out of character for the books to have that kind of plot device.
I much prefer todgers. I think arya was acting V strangely throughout last night's episode.
I always thought Jaqen H'ghar and Sylvio Forel were going to turn out to be the same person. It's not been explained how Jaqen came to be in westeros and I don't believe arya just stumbled across him and he was indebted to her. Everything he does seems too planned for that.
I only read the first 3 books so I'm probably missing loads though

NeedACleverNN · 07/06/2016 10:45

I like the Arya and J'aquen theory. That seems plausible

The Arya and the waif theory seems a bit weak

SparklySandals · 07/06/2016 10:55

Is everyone enjoying this series? I'm finding it hard work, and not in an good way. I think it's kind of boring and convoluted, punctuated with gratuitous brutality... There's no romantic or sexual tension storyline, no humour, not much suspense or intrigue, and each story is being progressed in tiny amounts which makes it slow going.

I'll battle on until the end of the series in the hope of falling in love with it again, but I find myself having to psyche myself up to watch it on a Monday night. Sad

MakingJudySmile · 07/06/2016 10:58

I've also no much to contribute (and I'm also hopeless with names) but I think Arya needs to survive. You're right about her needing to reclaim the Stark name; the young girl on Bear Island said as much about there being no true stark.

Robb - dead. Big disadvantage.

Sansa - either a Bolton or a Lanister, possibly both. Though I'm hope (for woman kind and all that jazz) she'll show she really is a Stark and being married makes no odds.

Bron - too annoying (and probably not very handy in battle)

Rikkon - possibly deflected to the Boltons. Also meh. (We know nowt about him really - he is as much as Stark as Theon was a Greyjoy - in fact less so having been left without his family from younger. So maybe he'll re-Stark; Theon appears to be coming back to Greyjoyness.

Jonn - actual a Snow (for now)

So we have Angry Arya - vengeful and now trained to be kick arse; has a moral code and also still an independent thinker.

(No prizes for guessing my favourite character)

As a side I was disappointed that they made ??? Greyjoy (confused to name) be enjoying a bare naked lady. I'd like to have an attractive bare naked man once in a while. Sexual equality in willing prostitutes is all I want really.

Felascloak · 07/06/2016 11:04

I'm not sure I agree after last week's cock shot judy. Bleurgh.

sparkly I think it's noticeable that this series has not had a book to guide it. The plot isn't as tight and some of it has been clunky (in particular Sansa and Little fingers meet up - I thought they were at opposite ends of the country and now he's buggered off again)! So I kind of agree. Also both the show and books suffer from too many characters imo. I had to stop reading the books as it was too confusing Smile

MakingJudySmile · 07/06/2016 11:04

Speaking of lack of humour, my favourite line yesterday had to be Theon spluttering his drink over 'a tough few years' (admittedly I've forgotten the exact phrasing - more than 12 hours have past - poor memory!)

MakingJudySmile · 07/06/2016 11:11

Last week's cock shot is not the equality I'm after!!! That disturbed not just because of the camera angle of the coot bald balls be also because I'd assumed the character was supposed to be a woman playing Joffrey as the actors were wanting to mock him as a man-boy

No I was think more of equality like in 300.

CoffeeAndOranges · 07/06/2016 11:52

Chops Ian McShane is and always will be Lovejoy, whatever else he does. Poor chap could do Hamlet in the Globe theatre and the headlines would still be 'Lovejoy hams it up'. He could be President of the USA and it would say 'Lovejoy rules the world'. He could... Well you get the idea Grin

EverySongbirdSays · 07/06/2016 12:17

No sexual tension??

NO SEXUAL TENSION?!

RE Syrio anyone who dies offscreen can't be counted out Smile

Except Stannis I think - Brienne loved Renly, though that said he ain't dead in the book (yet) but D and D were told what happened to Shireen and Selyse it makes overall sense for him to be dead
