I'm on my first viewing but reading the spoilers and fan threads alongside, as well as knowing what happens later on, so it seems like I'm doing a repeat viewing IYSWIM

Yes, v dodgy wigs...

Middleoftheroad · 09/06/2016 07:18

I watch iit three times too and watch a few Youtube reviews and then previews of the following week. You pick up on much more.

Binge watched HP films over half term with the kids and just on book one with them. Cant wait until they catch up so we can read the Cursed Child. Would love to go to show.

Ah.....Viggo

TheNorthRemembers · 09/06/2016 08:29

I would have liked to get tickets for both parts of the Cursed Child consecutive days or close enough (as we live in the North), but could not. Or maybe I am not patient enough. So DS has to make do with going to the recording of Ninja Warrior. He is happy and it will give me time to sneakily read the book.

Apropos wigs. Did they find a proper hairdresser for Jaime or did we just get used to it?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 09/06/2016 10:14

Arya cannot be dead, because then the whole House of Black and White shizzle would be even more pointless. Similarly, she can't go and be No One because she needs to go back as Arya Stark and retake the North, ffs, and No One sucks. Besides, I bet No One wouldn't re-connect with Nymeria. I would be delighted if the ending to the HoB&W bit is that she admits that a girl is Some One and Jaq'en says that that was the goal all along - it is not possible to leave your past behind you and she needed to know that it is okay to be herself.

MakingJudySmile · 09/06/2016 10:27

Also George R R Martin's wife said she'd divorce him if Arya was killed off.

SuffolkNWhat · 09/06/2016 12:55

I'm seeing the CC on the final preview weekend, can't wait!

kungfupannda · 09/06/2016 13:02

Delurking to put forward my first ever GofT theory - normally I have no clue what is coming Grin

We had the War of Five Kings - are we now being set up for a War of Five/insert appropriate number Queens?

Yara has made a bid to be queen of the Iron Islands. There's Danaerys who claims to be the rightful queen. Margaery and Cersei are both at KL, hovering around the iron throne. There's the Queen of Thorns. Dorne seems to be in the hands of a woman/group of women. And I've seen various online theories about JS being crowned King in the North this season - but what if Sansa went up against him to be Queen in the North?

TheNorthRemembers · 09/06/2016 13:10

kungfupanda That would actually make sense.

Suffolk You are so lucky!

TheNorthRemembers · 09/06/2016 13:36

Episode 9 will clock in at 60 minutes, making it the longest Game of Thrones episode so far this year, while episode 10 will be a bumper length 69 minutes, the longest episode in its six season history.

Equiem89 · 09/06/2016 13:39

Episode 9 sounds fairly self explanatory. Not posting title in case people don't want to know

LaserShark · 09/06/2016 14:17

kungfu, I love that theory - and can't believe I hadn't noticed how much power has shifted or is shifting towards women!

EverySongbirdSays · 09/06/2016 14:48

I proper love that theory Kung Fu

Dany vs Sansa vs Yara vs Margaery vs Dornish woman whose name I can't recall.

Prediction : Cersei dead this series

And Cheddar where do you think you've been if you please? Good to see you back.

Does Sansa hold more right to the North as a Stark, even if she's a woman? They know Rickon is alive and in the hands of Ramsey but if he gets out of there alive, is he the rightful heir?

pyrowall · 09/06/2016 15:33

well, I suppose Bran is still technically the heir

EverySongbirdSays · 09/06/2016 15:35

I don't really get the whole gender thing if I'm honest, it's very inconsistent.

Sansa isn't really seen as a Stark now as she is married...but Lyanna is a 10 yr old who is head of house. Yara can't rule the Ironborn, nor Theon due to lack of cock, but on Dorne it's eldest first regardless of gender.

OP posts:
EverySongbirdSays · 09/06/2016 15:38

I'm going to say the unpleasant thing : were Bran to become Lord Bran Stark of Winterfell then he'd be easily overthrown and probably not respected as a 'force' the way his father was.

He will probably end up in a tree anyway.

OP posts:
AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 09/06/2016 15:51

Bran is the heir to Winterfell under Northern laws because he's the eldest legitimate male. Then Rickon, then Sansa, then the slightly late Benjen presumably. Jon as an unlegitimised bastard just doesn't feature. If Ramsay kills Rickon, and in the absence of Bran, I assume that Jon Snow would support Sansa's claim to Winterfell and to be Queen in the North. There's no way he'd try to claim it for himself.

Male-first primogeniture applies throughout the GOT world except:
A) in Dorne where the oldest child inherits regardless of sex (I don't think this is show canon but it certainly applies in the books)
B) the Ironborn operate a system of representative democracy where any captain can stand as King and the other captains elect their favourite candidate. This has never been a woman, but there's nothing to stop one standing if she's a captain.
C) if you have a fucking great dragon at your command then all bets are off (although after the death of Visaerys Dany was the Targaeryn heir in her own right anyway).

It's similar to Medieval Europe where some countries applied the Salic Law barring women from the succession completely and some allowed them to succeed if they were the only living members of the senior branch.

WeDoNotSow · 09/06/2016 16:06

Sansa doesn't deserve the North. A Queen of the North who goes running to Littlefinger at the slightest bit of trouble?!? Fuck that shit.

LaserShark · 09/06/2016 16:08

Sansa is still developing as a character. I am nurturing hopes that she will end up taking Littlefinger down.

WeDoNotSow · 09/06/2016 16:09

And Bran isn't going to be a tree, he's been marked, he couldn't stay in once place long enough to root before the Nights King got him.

EverySongbirdSays · 09/06/2016 16:16

Bran being "marked" - yes, currently

But what is end game for Bran?

Lord Of Winterfell - doubtful

Dead?

Tree?

I'm talking after the war when the dragons have come and killed The Nights King n shit.

OP posts:
emilybohemia · 09/06/2016 16:21

I think Sansa may try to take Jon down. Does she regard him as a true Stark?

weirdsister · 09/06/2016 16:33

I like the 5 queens theory. Where does Arya fit in there?

EverySongbirdSays · 09/06/2016 16:39

I don't think it's fair that Sansa doesn't deserve the North because she's turned to Littlefinger for troops

Tactically they need those troops

Robb went cap in hand to Frey after fucking him right off because he was desperate after the Karstarks and Umbers were pissed off with him.

OP posts:
WeDoNotSow · 09/06/2016 17:02

I don't think Bran is going to live to see the end of the war personally, he can see all times, so I think his job is to learn and some relevant piece of history.

I don't think Sansa deserves the North for many many reasons, lesser mistakes have led to better people being deader.
It's a shame Aryas not the older sister.
Lyanna Mornomt puts Sansa to shame.
I blame Catelyn personally, and her obsession with Tully-ness.
