Anyone watching?

BusStopBetty · 12/06/2016 20:54

This is the first one I've seen. It's awful.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 12/06/2016 20:58

Haven't seen this weeks because of the football. But so far I'm enjoying it more than the old top gear. JC is a top class knob (not saying that CE isn't) but I like the new team so far. And as someone else said its the presenters that have changed not the actual show. I'm not sure how different people were expecting it to be!

Of course the ratings will be hit again because of the clash with the Euros.

UnGoogleable · 12/06/2016 21:18

The show itself is identical to the old one, even the script sounds the same.

The presenters... hmm, I like Chris Evans' radio show, so I wish him well. I don't think he 'gels' with MLB very well. But I do like the other presenters, the new guys and Sabine the kickass driver.

Some of the reviews have been very biased against the new team. I read one that said CE couldn't possibly be any good because he doesn't know cars like JC does Hmm and that the 'genuine friendship' between the previous 3 stooges was what made it magic... really?

But given that the format is unchanged, I'm sure it will do well. I mean, do people really, really believe it was the BBCs biggest selling show because people all over the world enjoyed watching JC and his middle aged cronies? I think it's more likely because people like cars and daft videos involving cars myself....

RainbowsAndUnicornss · 12/06/2016 21:20

I love Sabine!
I think they've listened to feedback - there was less CE and more MLB

Roussette · 12/06/2016 21:25

Yes, I noticed that Rainbows. They've obviously been reading this thread Grin

SauvignonBlanche · 12/06/2016 21:33

CE was marginally less irritating this week.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 12/06/2016 21:46

(Adopts Louis Walsh accent) ''Well, I liked it!'' ;-)

UnGoogleable · 12/06/2016 21:52

I think they've listened to feedback

I read somewhere that next week's show is filmed before the previous week has aired, so they can't react to the previous week's feedback. But there may have been enough time for them to react to the first week or so by now I guess.

Also, not sure if I missed it - but the VT where they drove around London - they got some bad press for doing doughnuts around the Cenotaph (accused of being disrespectful), and I watched the VT tonight and didn't see the cenotaph at all - did they cut it do you think?

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 12/06/2016 21:55

I do indeed think and said as much to dp!!

member · 13/06/2016 09:22

Didn't see it from the beginning but enjoyed what I did see though I'm not keen on them having 2 "celebs" at once for the driving segment. I really enjoyed the hot hatch comparison(price still out of my league but seems more realistic than endless supercar comparisons). The films are good, it's the studio stuff that needs improvement but that may come as friendships develop.

InternalMonologue · 13/06/2016 14:16

I think this week was a lot better. Chris Harris and Rory Reid were brilliant. MLB was a lot better as the main host too. I loved Sabine, the chemistry between her and MLB was great. You can tell that Harris and Reid are writers, their pieces flowed well.

I still think the rallycross car segment is too long, and they need to get a more natural chat on the go. I don't understand why they cover half the picture of the stars' first cars with a photo of the celeb. Yes, the teenage photos are funny but you could have them next to the car rather than in the way.

AnecdotalEvidence · 13/06/2016 14:46

It is better than the first week with reduced CE input, but it's still not great.
The celeb section is dreadful. It makes me cringe when they have to introduce each other.
It used to be funny and now it isn't. Some of the car bits are ok (if you like fifth gear), but it just lacks the entertainment value that it used to have.

RainbowsAndUnicornss · 13/06/2016 15:16

I read somewhere that next week's show is filmed before the previous week has aired, so they can't react to the previous week's feedback
Oh I didn't realise, I thought it was always pretty topical.

Yeah agreed I can't stand how the celebs have to introduce each other, who the fuck thought that up its so cringy. And the way Chris Evans starts them off its like when you were a teenager and your mum starts a story off for you in front of strangers then prompts you to keep telling it arrrgh no

RainbowsAndUnicornss · 13/06/2016 15:19

didn't see the cenotaph at all - did they cut it do you think?

Definitely, they had to apologise & it was all a bit embarrassing so unlikely to include. Thought the tour of London was brilliant though !

UnGoogleable · 13/06/2016 15:28

I can't stand how the celebs have to introduce each other, who the fuck thought that up its so cringy. I imagine that is a CE idea, since he does something very similar on his Friday morning breakfast radio show where he gets the celeb guests to ask each other questions. It's often cringey.

RainbowsAndUnicornss · 13/06/2016 15:50

Ah right, I've not had that pleasure

mimbleandlittlemy · 13/06/2016 17:46

We're enjoying it - ds (14) didn't want to like it but actually seems quite relieved it's no longer Clarkson though he misses James May. I really like it. Sabine is fantastic, I thought the Chris Harris and Rory Reid pieces were excellent and I find myself quite looking forward to it. As someone said - can't remember if on here or elsewhere - the papers that are hammering it are mostly those for which Clarkson writes.

By the way - they didn't do doughnuts around the Cenotaph. They didn't even film next to the Cenotaph but some photos made it look like they were close even though they weren't. Another storm in a DM teacup. Their judgy pants must strangle them.

TrixieBernadette · 13/06/2016 20:59

I liked this weeks. A lot. Matt was good. Sabine was good. The sections with Chris and Roy with the Tour de France car and the Essex car were good. The celebrity spot is still a bit shit, but if that's all they let Evans do now I can make a cup of tea.

Definitely hope this is sign of things to come and there's more Matt and Sabine and less Evans

Heratnumber7 · 13/06/2016 22:22

I hadnt watched TV in years. I couldn't stand the puerile, egotistic knobhead that is Jeremy Carlson, and his fawning sidekicks Hammond and May.

I'm loving the new TG though, proving to myself that it wasn't the actual programme I didn't like, just the presenters.

The new lineup is fab. CE isn't the best, but it's early days and I'm sure he'll settle down as he goes along. He must have been very nervous.

situatedknowledge · 13/06/2016 22:24

Our 3 X DD really like the new line up, especially Sabine. We're watching again after giving up years ago.

oldmum22 · 14/06/2016 18:57

Well 3rd one in and I have to say it is getting better. Sabine and MLB have got a good rapport and the reports from Chris Harris and Rory Reid were intelligent and entertaining. CE still needs to calm down . I cringe whenever I hear the "voice over" he does for some VT ,as he still tries to sound like JC .

SoleBizzz · 19/06/2016 20:19

Anybody watching tonight?

OP posts:
Heratnumber7 · 19/06/2016 20:31
