prettybird I cringed totally cringed (and I'm cringing now to think of it again) when CE introduced Stig saying "and we got custody"......

It was triumphalist and loser at the same time

I liked the old TG but did not like the casual, sly sexism and racism. It wasn't even done in a knowing way of 'well, we know we shouldn't say this' which the best comedians do.
Instead it was a 'we're too big to have our wrist slapped' vibe.

Hated that.

Jesse Eisenberg is a very talented actor....I suspect that with another interviewer he could have been naturally sidesplitting.
Instead of which he was overshadowed by GR with his ridiculously over-priced and over-powered "show-off that I'm bigger than you" toy.

Honestly, GR has no doubt worked very hard to get where he is, but I have no time for men who devalue the role of luck and supportive people in their lives. And for whom being the "big man" is all about power.

Liked the TG last night...probably 5/10.
I'll watch again as I want to see CE implode and leave develop.
And definitely very, very impressed with the charismatic MattLB

Strange that in one article they call Sabine "co-host". She was only on for 10 minutes! Hope they make more use of her in the future and sideline the ginger motormouth

Apparently she earns £650,000 per episode. If that's the case what the heck is CE earning?

I agree with Roussette. Especially about Joe90.

I thought Matt looked uncomfortable in the studio, but (as it has been reported be people there during filming) as Chris had been shouting at the audience for not being enthusiastic enough he was probably nervous as hell in case he kicked off again.

He reminded me of people's behaviour around a bully - not wanting to rock the boat but deeply deeply uncomfortable.

I think there was a lot of warming up of the audience with CE swearing 'n that, I just found the audience looked awkward.

Apparently the audience was the lowest that it had been for a decade (4.4M), would've thought more would have tuned in, even if it was just for curiousity.

CE previously said he would be disappointed with under 5M. Now he is saying on his twitter it was a huge success with fantastic viewing figures.

I really really wanted it to work because I love cars and love TG but my heart sank when I heard that CE was fronting it. My opinion hasn't changed.

We couldn't watch last night, so tried to catch up tonight. We've all agreed to watch the Chelsea Flower Show instead- including 10 yo DS.

We'll pass thanks.

I'm watching it now. It is without charm. They don't seem to like each other much.

Terrible I'm afraid - the obvious copying! And without meaning to sound anti American it is just such a quintessentially British Programme it just can't have an American presenter!

Just watched the whole thing all the way through and I liked it on the whole. Wasn't keen on Evans trying to be Clarkson, and some of the studio work was a bit clunky, but Le Blanc has irony spot on and he's a breath of fresh air.

Don't forget, it took several years for three motoring journalists to gel and become best mates and make it the show it became, even though towards the end it was getting a bit Last of the Summer Wine but with cars instead of a tin bath on wheels.

I watched it today, it was better than i expected after the reports.
The magic isn't there yet, but i thought it was a good watch.
The Extra show was good, I thought it could and should have been part of the main show, Chris Harris is certainly well regarded in petrol head circles so i do hope we see much more of him. I hate BBC three and the downloading thing now so i don't like its on there as its too much if a pain in the arse.

Starting it on a BH Sunday couldn't have done the ratings any favours.

CE was trying way too hard. He shares many of JC's characteristics, when he goes into TFI mode it's just ridiculous.

Matt was great outside the studio.

DS9 and I were properly laughing during the challenge and DS wants to drive like Sabine and own a Nomad.

7/10 but scope to improve.

It's not copying, it is still Top Gesr, just with new presenters.

Dad if that happened then I'd watch.

I agree on all counts, having watched TG since the William Woollard years :) CE is the worst thing to happen to TG since VBH.

Hated CE - warmed to Matt LB even though I hated him as Joey. Think most people would be wooden trying not to say "stop shouting you twat"...

Given they've got Sabine and Chris Harris not too sure what the Stig actually adds - Chris or Sabine could take the car around the track and tell us what it's like at the same time. Missed a trick not having Chris/the Stig take the Nomad around the rally cross track imo.

Not sure what the point of the reliants was - USA has some equivalent cars and the whole point of a challenge is seeing what they choose rather than being handed a roofless crap car!

It was a great advert for clarksons new show! CE was terrible .... Mat lovely but overall an awful end to what was once a great show!

CE could not have taken the Nomad round the track... he is not a driver... to me he comes across as someone who loves cars, spends money on cars but isn't a petrol head

Rousette I get the impression that CE actually knows nothing about cars. Or at least cars that aren't Ferraris (possible slight exaggeration ).

we'd decided that MLB was a proper carfiend/petrolhead versus CE being a car collector with more money than sense

I will wait to see how (if?) things change after the show is aired that was filmed around and about London, where CE apologised profusely about the Cenotaph incident and basically threw MLB under the bus, totally passing the buck and denying any responsibility for input into "the prank", cannot see that going down well tbh.
