I suppose in the show Targs are a bit one-sided. In the book there is another Targaryen heir who was raised and trained to rule in a fair way. (Even if he is fake he must be at least Blackfyre or Brightfyre). So there is a compare and contrast between Jon, Dany and the third person (whom I shall not name in case he will be introduced in the show later).

In fairness the Dothraki would probably be phenomenally useless in Westeros, and I can't see how they would make Dany the popular choice. Their role will be probably to enable Dany to defeat the slavers by the time the ships from her secret admirer turn up. This is not a spoiler, only a guess. She needs to get a move on.

I was also thinking what will be Arya's ultimate hit, and she will either have to go after a metaphorical (a Targ) or a real dragon. Braavos's whole political system is built on opposing the dragonlords and Valyria. They would stop at nothing to eliminate them. Same with the Maesters. That is why Jaqen is in Oldtown in the books.
Where is Sam now? Is he still on the boat? If yes, they could pick Arya up when they stop at Braavos.
The immediate next hit is going to be the Mercy chapter I suppose, that is why they cast that theatre troupe.

WeDoNotSow · 18/05/2016 22:13

Dany would make a terrible queen. Absolutely awful.
I don't think it happened in the show, but in the books she allowed the torture of two innocent girls, because she was so angry, and wanted to get a wineseller to talk (the one who tried to poison her) so agreed to have his daughters tortured in front of him.

Dany doesn't free slaves, she just steals them for herself

Cerseirys · 18/05/2016 22:21

In fairness the Dothraki would probably be phenomenally useless in Westeros

Not to mention the little fact of how she's going to get them to Kings Landing, given that the Dothraki are notoriously afraid of water.

EverySongbirdSays · 18/05/2016 22:27

Secret admirer north? I've forgotten something important from the book haven't I - I don't know how you keep track of it all! I feel that at the moment Dany thinks she is invincible but will be shocked to discover Jon and that she is not alone - but also surely whoever rules westeros will be whoever can defeat the walkers will be whoever controls the dragons....

TheUnsullied · 18/05/2016 23:42

The Dothraki wouldn't be entirely useless in Westeros. They could make a dent in the white walkers. There's nothing to say they'll dock in the south. If they're up Braavos way I'd say it's more likely they'll take the shorter trip and sail directly west, bringing them to the north. The shorter the sail for the Dothraki, the better.

weirdsister · 18/05/2016 23:54

I think that Dany would quickly become frustrated as Queen in Westeros and she'd be off to the other side of the world on her dragons. I think she'd find Jon a bit of a drip as well.

I think that she's most similar to Arya. I'd love to see those two together.

I think that Jaime would be a good match for her as well.

MagratsFlyawayHair · 19/05/2016 07:07

I don't know about Dothraki v white walkers. Dothraki are fearsome fighters...while mostly naked in a hot dry climate. Take them, and the horses trained in that climate, and stick them All in the freezing north? I can't see them being as capable wrapped in furs, it would have to change your fighting style.

Unless of course the walkers come south. But what happens to walkers in hot sun? I just don't see how it would work out well for Dothraki. For walkers to head south winter would need to come along everywhere and the Dothraki would have the same issue.

Unless the dragons will melt everything and keep the army toasty warm Grin

Buscake · 19/05/2016 09:35

I think the Dothraki will help Dany secure the cities she has already conquered while she heads off to westeros with the unsullied. How will she get there? Well, who has a shit load of boats?? The iron islanders!

TheUnsullied · 19/05/2016 09:50

I don't necessarily think the Dothraki would have much of a chance against the white walkers as such. But killing them would certainly slow the walkers down while the dragons burn them.

pyrowall · 19/05/2016 09:52

buscake - but aren't the iron islanders all the way across the other side of westeros?

Buscake · 19/05/2016 10:03

Yes pyrowall they are...but it's still possible, I think? If you think Sam and Gilly will get to Oldtown soon from the wall, and they're not experienced seafarers-they just paid for passage on a boat. Viking type seafarers (as the iron islanders are in my head!) would surely be able to cover a similar distance much faster. Just an idea!

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 19/05/2016 11:19

The only thing I could think when Dany did the whole fire thing in front of all the Dothraki is that surely they'll just think she's an evil witch or something and not really want her ruling them. Confused But I really don't know the ins and outs of what they believe so perhaps not.

Highsteaks · 19/05/2016 12:10

Did I imagine it or in the book did Danaerys have um, relations with one of her lady servants whilst on a boat? Possibly even Missandei?

As an aside, I really like the name Danaerys, i think it sounds really cool and pretty at the same time. Luckily, I'm not having any more kids........

Cerseirys · 19/05/2016 13:06

Not Missandei, as she's only about 11 in the books. I think it was one of her Dothraki hand maidens.

QueenOfThorns · 19/05/2016 13:08

Also, don't forget Cersei and the Myrish swamp Grin

Highsteaks · 19/05/2016 14:32

Actually it's a good job I'm not having any kids as it appears can't even spell the name Daenerys properly!

Yes it's Irri that Dany gets it on with. I dont think I got as far as Cersei and her the myrish swamp (I gave up reading book 4 at some point during the iron islands kingsmoot zzzzzzzzzzzz)

Abraid2 · 19/05/2016 17:41

Me too, Highsteaks.

I think the TV series is better, with the exception of the first book or two. The screenwriters have better focused the narrative.

ClashCityRocker · 20/05/2016 13:49

I need to stop watching and reading game of thrones.

I had the filthiest dream about Ramsay Bolton last night.

TheNorthRemembers · 20/05/2016 13:59

Clash The actor is lush. I have just read an article with him on The New York Times website (an archive article) and the pictures were so sweet.
I know it is wrong Blush

WeDoNotSow · 20/05/2016 14:09

He's such a fantastic actor though, he has those crazy eyes down to a T.
I also loved him in Misfits. And that Coldplay GoT video, his crazy eyes in that are the absolute best!

ClashCityRocker · 20/05/2016 14:18

He is a great actor, I think the casting is down to a T.

Those eyes!

I do hope ry do something more interesting with him this series, show a bit of depth to his character rather than him just being psychopathic and eventually getting his comeuppance.

I mean, I'm fairly sure he's going to die a very horrible death at some point in this series, but I'd like something in the storyline to show that he is human and does have feelings. I can change him

TheNorthRemembers · 20/05/2016 15:39

It probably helps that I have never watched the torture scenes.

I'll have to watch Misfits now.

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 20/05/2016 15:44

And Vicious. Don't forget Vicious. You can give yourself a nasty case of whiplash by flicking from one to the other and watching him change. Though there is a brilliant episode of Vicious where Iwan Rheon's lovely sweet gormless sidekick character suddenly unleashes his inner Ramsay.

WeDoNotSow · 20/05/2016 15:52

I've never even heard of Vicious! Where can I watch it? Netflix?

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 20/05/2016 16:05

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vicious_(TV_series)

It's, ummmm, a bit unusual and, ummmm, not to everyone's taste. But if you love IR on GOT then you should certainly seek out an episode on YouTube because the comedy value of seeing him playing the loveable gormless neighbour is immense.
