Not a book reader, (well I was but stopped due to not having time) but I saw elsewhere someone saying Euron Greyjoy is more formidable than Joffrey and Ramsey?! Any book readers want to give us some insight into his character?

Cerseirys · 17/05/2016 20:47

Formidable yes, IIRC, but certainly not a psychopath like those two.

iisme · 17/05/2016 20:55

There's no way Maergery would tell the High Sparrow anything in order to save Loras. She knows their only hope is in saying nothing. If the High Sparrow had that sort of confession they would all be fucked. Maergery is tough - she's playing the long game. Loras, on the other hand, would definitely tell. But I'd be amazed if he knows. Surely the Queen of Thorns would have been cannier than that?

TheNorthRemembers · 17/05/2016 21:11

It is hard to tell what Euron will be like in the show. In the books he dabbles in sorcery, is a pirate and utterly ruthless. He seduced / raped his brother's wife, got her pregnant and the brother killed the wife. It is strongly implied that he abused their youngest brother. Euron is hoping to marry Dany and gain control of the dragons.

Several book readers think Euron and book Cersei would deserve each other. Not in a good way.

EverySongbirdSays · 17/05/2016 21:17

I don't remember any of that BUT I need to hold my hands up and say that I may have totally did skip/skim most of the Iron Islands stuff for being boring as fuck. And not being characters I cared about.

I do need to re-read

In theory Iron Islands wouldn't support Starks and would probably go Boltons this would change because of what happened to Theon or effectively be neither as they have reason to hate both.

EverySong - I'm exactly the same, it was either skim read the Iron Island chapters or give up on the novels completely, I found them so so boring.

EverySongbirdSays · 17/05/2016 21:43

I knew I'd heard your UN Eva I had to Google I must admit I found Restless flawed

Am I the only person who thinks Ned's past lie wasn't a big deal and certainly didn't besmirch his honour. He didn't stab The Morning Star in the back, Howland Reed did - maybe his lie WAS noble in order to protect his friend's reputation.

EvaDelectorskaya · 17/05/2016 22:10

EverySong - What are your criticisms? I loved it but I'm always interested to hear a different opinion.

TheNorthRemembers · 17/05/2016 22:21

The Ironborn chapters are like watching paint dry. Even in the re-read, I just could not read them properly.

No, SerJorah you are not alone. I think they were just trying to make the points of "You know nothing" and do not generalise.
I lie to my DS all the time. "Of course there are dragons in the Mariana trenches." "No, we did not throw your broken toy out, DS." "Sky TV has blocked Cartoon Network, there is nothing I can do."
Mind you today I could not even lie, I was laughing so hard. We were singing "Cake by the Ocean" with DS and I asked him not to shout out the swearword. DS said is it the word "Naomi"? Confused No, DS it is "go f*ing crazy", but I obviously did not say it. He really has no clue. He is 8.

RedFoot · 17/05/2016 22:33

I loved Tormund & Brienne last night! Great bit of light relief, especially with Ed's face at the dinner table!

EverySongbirdSays · 17/05/2016 22:54

Off the top of my head and it's been a while, isn't there a load of random stuff that has Bugger all to do with the plot? To whit her PhD her Xbil randomly inviting himself to live with her and her red herring Muslim friend or have I got the wrong book?

OP posts:
JonSnowsBeardClippings · 17/05/2016 22:55

Every I literally cannot understand what you have just written there

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 17/05/2016 22:59

Wrong thread possibly?

EverySongbirdSays · 17/05/2016 23:02

LOL my post is a reply to Eva's question to me upthread about the William Boyd novel Restless Grin

OP posts:
EverySongbirdSays · 17/05/2016 23:16

Erm ? Have we now got 2 threads with identical titles going ? Has someone started a separate thread for the same episode with the exact same title ? Confused

Finally caught up- enjoyed that very much. Cheered when Jon and Sansa were reunited and love the possible romance between Tormund and Brienne.
Hoping Dany's storyline starts to actually move a bit faster now and that she heads towards westeros soon. I'm trying to remember why she cannot have more children- did she miscarry her baby and it left her damaged in some way? I remember her baby was the price paid for Drogo's life in the blood magic but the details are a bit hazy.

QueenOfThorns · 18/05/2016 07:14

What do you think Jon Snow and Littlefinger will make of each other? I think Littlefinger will assume that Jon is just like Ned and treat him in the same way. But Jon will surprise him by not being perfectly honourable. Hopefully it'll turn out to be a fatal error on Littlefinger's part!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 18/05/2016 07:54

Yes, I think Jon will see Littlefinger for what he is- he won't trust him and would certainly not like the fact he arranged Sansa's marriage to Roose.

Trills · 18/05/2016 08:14

If you're fighting 2-on-one then does the person at the back not get to do any stabbing?

It's not the same as sneaking up and stabbing someone in the back.

And they were there to rescue Ned's sister.

Should they really line up and fight one at a time?

TheNorthRemembers · 18/05/2016 08:34

I think the idea is that true knights do not do that. But of course very few of them are true knights.

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 18/05/2016 08:38

Not line up and fight one at a time, no. But should be using a sword and making their presence known, not sneaking up behind and stabbing the other person through the neck. Definitely not honorable.
As to Dany not being able to conceive, I think it was a curse laid upon her by blood magic woman. In the last book she starts menstruating again, if that will lead anywhere, who knows.

EverySongbirdSays and everybody else.
I must confess! It was me who started a rogue thread, having searched for the other not seen the brilliant thread that is this (until another MNetter cut and pasted the link in the Ep3 thread) I hid it stupidly thinking it would be hidden from all and don't know how to delete it! This is my walk of shame BlushSorry and please feel free to mount my severed head on a stick or scoop my eyeballs out for supper. Confused
