Really good episode - felt like it really moved things along. At last they're dealing with the High Sparrow, that has been going on too long and I can't believe it's taken them so long to act Joffrey wouldn't have hesitated. I wonder though if the High Sparrow has set things up knowing that Tommen would run and tell mummy the secret about Margary?

Loved Dany and her smug look at them before chucking the fire! Don't think she'll be too happy with Tyrion though, although I think he's just buying time. Who was the woman talking to him and Varys in next week's trailer?

Sansa and Jon - lovely reunion which I think was really needed after all the Stark near misses and she's really becoming kick ass. I too hope she gets to kill Ramsay. Oh poor Osha Sad

Ooh Brienne and Tormund - just makes so much sense - love it!

Trills · 17/05/2016 08:15

All the things that have worked against Briennne in the past - being big, wanting to fight - are exactly the kind of thing Tormund would be impressed with.

He wouldn't like her enough to put up with those things (which is the best she could have hoped for with a man from the South), he'd genuinely think they were great.

rollonthesummer · 17/05/2016 08:18

I like the more steely Sansa but what was she on about with the 'if you don't help me against Ramsay, I'll go and do it on my own'?

What would she achieve? She's just run away terrified from the psycho torturing rapist-she wouldn't get very far on her own??

Trills · 17/05/2016 08:19

Maybe she thought she could rally the North?

Or maybe she was knowingly making a totally empty threat to try to manipulate Jon.

JonSnowsBeardClippings · 17/05/2016 08:45

She didn't mean literally on her own! She meant she would rally the army herself or die trying

EvaDelectorskaya · 17/05/2016 08:58

Does anyone else think it's a possibility that Ramsay and Rickon become best buddies? There are several references in the books to how disturbed Rickon becomes after most of his family disappear from his life when he is just three years old, and Ramsay's letter in this episode talked about 'your wild little brother'. I think a 'baddie' Stark could be a very interesting plot development, and we could be left in great doubt as to which side Rickon will take in the upcoming battle.

DocMcFanjo · 17/05/2016 09:30

Loved this episode. Finally some decisions and action!

I think the High Sparrow might have something up his sleeve too- Tommen is so limp he was obviously going to tell Cersei what the HS told him. They need to watch their backs.

I also love how this series is setting up to be about the women taking all the leadership roles; Sansa finally growing a pair and wanting to get the North back, Dany embracing pyromania again, Yara looking set to try and rule the Iron Islands, Cersei/Margaery/Olenna being the ones made of steel surrounded by weak men and getting set for some mutiny, even the tiresome Sand Snakes taking Dorne, and then of course the ultimate badass Arya getting ready to pounce.

Tyrion, Jon, and Bran, and a few others are the only males left poised to be of use, and then maybe more in a supporting role to the women??? Will we be looking at an all-female Westeros rulership pact in the end? Feminine fire and life vs masculine ice and death? Too much??

WestleyAndButtockUp · 17/05/2016 09:30

Good shout, Eva.

Why are the slavers funding the Sons of the Harpy even listening to Tyrion? Why should they even consider his seven-year deal to give up slavery, in favour of some unspecified 'other economic system'? What power does he have over them? What threat does he have for them? Aren't they independent from Mereen?

I didn't like the way everybody on Thronecast was so impressed with Dany this episode. She's a bit of a psycho, and the Dothraki aren't following her from anything other than fear.

WestleyAndButtockUp · 17/05/2016 09:35

BTW, on the Ben Elton/David Mitchell sitcom about Shakespeare 'Upstart Crow', there's a character called Kate who wants to be the first woman to perform on the stage. Fairly similar to the Kate in Blackadder.

It's the actress who plays Yara Greyjoy.

RedMapleLeaf · 17/05/2016 09:58

You know, I'm not enjoying this series as much. I've realised that before one of the most enjoyable things was seeing how the books were portrayed, what changes were made etc. Without all of the detail from the books it feels a bit one dimensional.

A second thing I don't like is the tying up of loose ends, generally by killing off characters. So far I've enjoyed the rich variety of story lines and interplay between them and wondering how things might connect up and resolve. Now they just seem to be cutting them off, "Oh, Osha's a loose end, kill her. Stannis is a loose end, kill him...".

Final grumble is that one of the best things about A Song of Ice and Fire is how it turned all of the tropes upside down. But it's becoming a bit too predictable now.

EverySongbirdSays · 17/05/2016 10:51

I now no longer cares who takes the Iron Throne in the end, or who the third dragon rider is, I only care that Brienne gets to marry Tormund and have enormous babies and live happily and badassly ever after, possibly as joint commanders of the Kings Guard. He is exactly who could make her happy: strong, seven foot tall, uncomplicated, and fancies the socks off her

Grin

I love this Kittens - not caught up the full thread BUT is Sansa's two marriages - which one counts? the "I think you should cancel the cheque OP' of the Game Of Thrones threads!!!! Smile FWIW If Ramsey isn't dead this series I'll eat my hat. It's time and the schtick is old and becoming annoying.

RIP Tonks again and Lupin forever in our hearts, oops wrong series it was not worth bringing her back for that really wasn't. In the book TWOW she probably does die protecting Rickon and that's why, but it's a totally differentstory now.

Yes, Jon Snow does get the letter from Ramsey saying he has his sister but that "sister" is Jeyne Poole masquerading as Arya and the Stark girl who comes for his help is Alys Karstark.

Dany - I agree Westley that was not the behaviour of a monarch but of a murderer and someone slightly unhinged/insane - is this the rise of the "taint" mentioned in sample chapters, will she just get worse?

I doubt that the secret tommen told his mum was about Margery doing her walk of shame. Too obvious. Maybe it had something to do with their family's involvement in Joffrey's death? Loras looked pretty broken by his jail time, begging Margery to make it stop. Cersie is essentially setting up the Tyrell family to take on the religious fanatics, it will hurt the Tyrell's to do so.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 17/05/2016 10:58

Trills Yes I am a big fan of TV Tropes, that must have been at the back of my mind when I wrote it Grin Although shame on you for not putting the requisite TV Tropes will ruin your life warning; I've lost days to that sight Wink

EverySongbirdSays · 17/05/2016 11:04

I totally agree that either Sansa or Jon must kill Ramsey this series. Poetic justice in both ie Jon FOR Robb, or Sansa for herself. It would make me happier still to see her end Littlefinger and, now, more than anyone she knows what he's capable of. She KNOWS that he and Oleanna Tyrell conspired to murder Joffrey that is huge political capital she may be the only one who does besides them.

Amibambini · 17/05/2016 11:05

I'm really enjoying this season by the way!! Woohoo at Tormund making sexy eyes at Brienne! I'd totally do Tormund.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 17/05/2016 11:20

Loved this episode! Good point Ami about the Tyrell's being responsible for Joffrey's death...that will add conflict later, if not now, surely.

Lemond1fficult · 17/05/2016 12:17

everysongbird, looks like Sansa will confront Littlefinger next episode, and if anyone owes Sansa it's him. I actually think he's shocked at just how bad Ramsay could be. LF is all about the political value, and it wouldn't occur to him that Sansa would be treated as anything other than an asset. Could this be GoTs most selfish character about to do something for someone else?

Eva totally agree about Rickon. If they're running to rescue him, but he appears on the battlements next to his new buddy Ramsay as the true Lord of Winterfell, that's going to put a spanner in the works.

TheNorthRemembers · 17/05/2016 12:18

I agree with most of the posts, although I still can't see how Dany is better than her father. Aerys was also charismatic and handsome in the beginning, but years of competing with Tywin seemed to have sent him over the edge. That is when he started randomly roasting people.

Ramsay grooming Rickon would be way more interesting than another flaying.

Sweetrobin's heir is a distant cousin, Harry Harding.

I want Littlefinger to live though. He may not be an unqualified goodie (understatement of the year), but he is at least entertaining to watch.

EverySongbirdSays · 17/05/2016 12:26

RE Littlefinger lets not forget he may be the poor son of a hedge knight but he was raised Tully, and the Starks are Tullys. He will give them The Knights Of The Vale for sure but may betray them at a later date.

I'm frustrated RE Theon, he's NOT in that Kingsmoot storyline and actually i thought (wrongly it turns out) that he was dead now, having being killed for a turncloak which sadly he still deserves to be, cock or no cock.

Totally agree with this. That would be a brilliant storyline!

EverySongbirdSays · 17/05/2016 12:32

Oh and do you remember the whole "Who's The Harpy?" chat we were having?

This red woman who's sprung up in Meereen! She's well The Harpy!

TheNorthRemembers · 17/05/2016 12:59

You must be right!

TheNorthRemembers · 17/05/2016 13:46

Someone on the Indy website speculated that the secret the High Sparrow told Tommen was that Loras confessed that the Tyrells conspired to kill Joffrey. And now Cersei is hoping that the Tyrells and the Faith will wipe each other out. It would explain Jaime's conversation with Kevan.

Fedup21 · 17/05/2016 14:20

Would Diana Rigg really have told the whole Tyrell family what she'd done though? I'm not certain Loras would know?!

MakingJudySmile · 17/05/2016 14:21

I'd like to see Sansa kill Ramsey. Him all confident she's pathetic and then: bam, you're dead; well bam-dead but slow enough for him to notice he's about to be deaded.

Has Sansa killed anyone yet?
