OK. I think that should be enough.

Right. R B - greatest TV villain of all time? I didn't see that coming!

OP posts:
SerJorahsSecondChoice · 03/05/2016 19:40

Regarding the comedy Dothraki's Monty Python nod, in book 5 vol 1 the phrase 'he farted in his general direction' is used :D

Cerseirys · 03/05/2016 20:00

I think hodor ' hodor's' because of Lyanna. Think he tried to save her from her kidnap and witnessed things that made his brain slip.

Only I don't think she was kidnapped. Robert Baratheon claimed she was, and that Rhaegar Targaryen raped her but I don't think that was the case at all. I think they fell in love and ran away together. Certainly everyone who speaks of Rhaegar says he was an honourable man, so I don't think he could've been a rapist. He's an enigmatic but fascinating character. Wonder if GRRM will ever write a prequel featuring him? Probably not.

emilybohemia · 03/05/2016 20:16

I think GRRM did say one of the forthcoming books might delve into the past though, Cers. I'd love it if that happened.

ILikeToClean · 03/05/2016 20:23

Never thought about listening to podcasts to go into greater depth analysis! I might start doing that Blush

Read the Independent who say that Jon's conscious lived on in Ghost while he was dead and transferred back when just he and Ghost were in the room. It's a nod to his warging abilities. I've only read the first book so I'm ignorant of a lot of stuff like this, hence I love these threads where you all explain more!

Think Tommen will die soon, interesting theory it may be Cersei who is behind it!

Alisvolatpropiis · 03/05/2016 20:31

Cers that's probably what he's writing at the moment instead of the 6th book fucks sake. The man does love a tangent.

WestleyAndButtockUp · 03/05/2016 20:38

Well Rhaegar can't be that honourable a man if he cheats on his wife, can he?

Which means if he fathered anyone with Lyanna Stark, they wouldn't be legitimate, would they?

WestleyAndButtockUp · 03/05/2016 20:39

What surnames do bastard Targaryens have, around Dragonstone or Valyria?

ILikeToClean · 03/05/2016 21:00

From google:

What is the bastard name for each region?

Waters for King’s Landing and Dragonstone, Snow for the North, Pyke for the Iron Islands, Rivers for the Riverlands, Stone for the Vale, Hill for the Westerlands, Flowers for the Reach, Storm for the Stormlands and Sand for Dorne. Some believe that the bastard name for Targaryen bastards is Blackfyre, however Blackfyre instead was a name which Aegon IV’s bastard son Daemon was allowed to take upon being knighted; prior to this, he was Daemon Waters. This is supported by the fact that his half-brothers Aegor and Brynden used the Rivers name, because their mothers were of the riverlands, and Princss Elaena Targaryen’s bastard children by Lord Oakenfist had the last name of Waters.

ClashCityRocker · 03/05/2016 21:08

You might be right jorah

I'm sure more would have been made of it if it was to come to something. It's interesting rereading the books.

Nana Tyrell is up to something though - something more than just ensuring Margery is queen....

I can see Tyrion being a targaryan - there was the whole 'all dwarves are bastards in their fathers eyes' conversation with JS, then when he asked to be named as heir to casterly Rock Tywin mentioned 'I must treat you as my son because I cannot prove otherwise...' And his last words were 'you're no son of mine' in the series (I think it was wherever whores go in the book)......plus Aerys was taken with Tywin's wife, wasn't one of the reasons Tywin was pissy with him that he 'took liberties' on Tywin's wedding night?

Ramsay - I find him oddly attractive books therapy sessions

According to the actor we are going to see a different aspect to him this series - although so far he's acting to form. My heart was in my mouth when he held the baby.

I thought the death was reasonably tasteful by GoT standards, though and suspect it will have wide reaching repercussions.

BonerSibary · 03/05/2016 21:16

Nana Tyrell is up to something though - something more than just ensuring Margery is queen....

Ooh I do hope so. She's brilliant, one of the best ones in it. I didn't really buy that she'd sit idly by while her grandchildren were imprisoned.

EverySongbirdSays · 03/05/2016 21:41

That's a point! Where the hell is Oleanna and why hasnt she sprung Loras and Margaery yet.........?

Oh.

Now a set photo I've seen makes much more sense.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 03/05/2016 21:49

Link, link, please EverySongbird! I love Oleanna Tyrell.

EverySongbirdSays · 03/05/2016 21:58

No Oleanna but....... :

QueenOfThorns · 03/05/2016 22:20

My idea regarding Cersei wasn't that she'd accidentally kill Tommen while trying to protect him, but that the pressure of trying to defeat the prophecy would make her more and more paranoid and crazy until she finally couldn't take anymore. She might kill him and herself just to put an end to it.

One can hope, anyway!

iisme · 03/05/2016 22:22

There's a theory that Rhagar married Lyanna because the Targareans traditionally practiced bigamy/multiple marriages, making Jon legitimate, and his heir once his older children had been killed. That's why most of the Kings guard were at the tower with her rather than with the King.

Trills · 03/05/2016 22:31

Gold shall be their crowns, and gold their shrouds.

WestleyAndButtockUp · 03/05/2016 22:42

All this great intel on this thread will be lost next week.

That's the downside of a new thread for every episode, TrillianAstra.

gingercat12 · 03/05/2016 22:44

I am so glad I found you, I got lost.

Trills · 03/05/2016 22:47

Lost how?

Telly Addicts doesn't get deleted every 90 days like Chat.

The OP for ep3 can link to the threads for ep1 and ep2.

Anyone who, in 5 weeks' time, wishes to read our current speculations and laugh at our naivety is fully able to do so.

I rather encourage that actually, I think it'd be very amusing to see how much we get wrong.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 03/05/2016 22:50

Can someone clear something up for me? I may have missed a bit of the conversation because so much happened this episode my mind wasn't keeping up with every word of the dialogue as I tried to process it all, but...

When Brienne was telling Sansa about Area "she looked good, she was with a man, he didn't seem to be harming her" etc., did she say anything like "but then I fought the man, quite probably killed him, and Arya legged it?" That is what happened right, with The Hound?

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 03/05/2016 22:52

I clearly meant Arya*, stupid phone.

WestleyAndButtockUp · 03/05/2016 22:53

She didn't mention the fight, but she did say she spent 3 days looking for Arya

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 03/05/2016 22:58

Ah ok, thanks. I wonder why she didn't? Not sure if there's anything to it or they just didn't want to confuse the viewers?

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 03/05/2016 22:59

Would be interesting to see Sansa's reaction if she or when she finds out that Arya was with the hound.

gingercat12 · 03/05/2016 23:02

I did not realise there is a new thread every week.

Now that Ramsay mentioned the Manderlys, will they appear? But we missed the Frey-pie, so there is no point now, other than Wylla's speech.

In the books Hodor is Walder, so I always thought his father was a Frey from the Riverlands. In the books the only Northern Wylis is Manderly. Son of Wyman, father of Wylla. He is the son Wyman talks about when he says: "The north remembers, Lord Davos. The north remembers, and the mummer's farce is almost done. My son is home."
