Just saw we were dangerously close to filling the last thread so have taken the liberty as starting this one.

Ah yes, Christopher Plummer as the Captain does things to me too.

Ida - Those pictures are amazing! He looks better out of his dog collar!

We need to look at other jobs the actresses have now. Who has "moved on" to something more lucrative?

Helen George has! (Maybe not more lucrative but very time sensitive) She's in some play from May until much later in the year I think. Right at the same time they film CTM! I know she did Strictly at the same time... but I can't see a theatre company working rehearsals around a TV schedule! It'd be impossible.

But I can't help thinking they would leave a door open for her... I think she's more likely to meet someone at AA and leave in the Christmas Special. That funeral pic doesn't look to me what Trixie would have wanted! She's far too modern for an old East End funeral surely??

SuffolkNWhat · 05/03/2016 20:30

Hang on PC Noakes? I thought he was a Sargent now?

SuffolkNWhat · 05/03/2016 20:31

My money is on Sr MJ for the funeral tbh

Alisvolatpropiis · 05/03/2016 20:34

Sister Monica Joan, surely? Hasn't had an awful lot of screen time this series and the "real" one did die suddenly, in the books.

MrsJayy · 05/03/2016 20:35

Smj was clutching her stomach in the womb episode i think its her Sad

SuffolkNWhat · 05/03/2016 20:38

Interestingly Liz White is listed as being in the finale so that must be part of the thalidomide discovery.

TheWrathofNaan · 05/03/2016 20:42

I thought in the books it said that Trixie had died young?

MarthasHarbour · 05/03/2016 20:57

Suffolk was she the mother of the baby who died? IMDB says she played Rhoda Mullocks, that was the second baby IIRC

Alfieisnoisy · 05/03/2016 20:59

I lose touch with who did and did not die young. I've read all the books now including the Goodbye to the East End one. Loved them all...my friend worked with Jennifer Worth out of the place that's known as Nonnatus House but wasn't called that in real life.

I think Jennifer Worth tried to protect people who might not want to be written about. Hence I think Chummy is based upon a real person but has several facts attached to her which are not true. Likewise I think Sister MJ was based upon several Nuns.

I know my friend was very good friends with JW all her life and they met at "Nonnatus House" as midwives.

SuffolkNWhat · 05/03/2016 21:20

She was the mother of the baby that survived, the Dad rejected her to start with.

BikeRunSki · 05/03/2016 21:26

Susan Mullocks was the first Thalidomide baby, whose sad rejected her to start with. The second one was the one left on the draining board.

ShelaghTurner · 05/03/2016 21:27

Yes Rhoda Mullucks was the mother of the first baby, Susan. Ruby Cottingham was the second mother. That was heartbreaking 😞

mogloveseggs · 05/03/2016 21:38

Shelagh I sobbed through most of the first series (dratted hormones) Grin. Good job dh is a heavy sleeper. Used to take me a week to watch an episode as we would doze off. Where has the time gone Sad
I'm not keen on Tom and Barbara at all. The brill cream on the wall Shock

TooAswellAlso · 05/03/2016 21:51

After casualty it said "birth, death and marriage brings them closer together" - so who is the wedding as well?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 05/03/2016 21:53

Tom and Barbara in a shotgun one if they carry on the way they have been doing...

mogloveseggs · 05/03/2016 21:57

Surely not? That would have been a scandal back then I bet!
Have to say I love nurse crane she's just fab

MarthasHarbour · 06/03/2016 08:45

Ah yes thanks all. I couldn't remember the NE of the other baby.

I am quite liking Tom and Barbara. They were quite - erhem - steamy! Blush

MarthasHarbour · 06/03/2016 08:46

'Name'

ppeatfruit · 06/03/2016 09:20

I LOVE mumsnet; nowhere else would you be able to have a Q AND A with someone who KNEW TRIXIE fgs!!!!

AND with someone who's been on the Great Interior Challenge!!!!! WOW just WOW Grin

ppeatfruit · 06/03/2016 09:20

Have you guessed I'm not on Twitter!

Alfieisnoisy · 06/03/2016 09:42

Well. Know that Trixie was based upon my friend but I suspect lots of things were added to disguise her. She bears no resemblance in character to the Trixie in the books or on TV. I SUSPECT THE Trixie in the books and on TV are an amalgamation of several midwives.

diddl · 06/03/2016 09:47

Won't it be Fred?

The nuns wouldn't have such a showy funeral would they?

Orany of the midwives?

Alfieisnoisy · 06/03/2016 09:52

Don't know....Pam Ferris has just come back but maybe she has returned for this big finale. She seems much in demand as an actress and I suspect she could have other work lined up.

Would not be surprised also if they kill off Trixie, Helen George has been there since the beginning and maybe she wants to move on and do other things.

The natural order of things would mean it is Sr MJ who is lovely and I would be sorry to see her go.

They have moved so far away from the books now that it could be anyone.

Alfieisnoisy · 06/03/2016 09:53

As long as it isn't Nurse Crane....love her. Met many a nurse like her back in the 80s...real old dragons with a heart of gold who trained back in the 50s.

Redglitter · 06/03/2016 09:59

diddl I thought that too. I would think nuns woukd have a very low key funeral not a big fancy one like this.
