I'm not familiar with the story, but the trailers for it look awesome.

I can't see anything with both Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston in, as well as Olivia Colman being bad, can you?

Tell us, tell us, tell us.......

MissBattleaxe · 24/03/2016 12:31

Muddha, if it's just guesswork, then feel free to share! The series has veered far from the book apparently so even if it's in the book it might not happen on TV.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 24/03/2016 13:44

shit. I should've known better

it's not even that GOOD Blush

just wrt to Apo's dd suicide/murder:

if TWMITW didn't have anything to do with it, who was straight in there with Apo to make hay out of it? -at least till he got whacked, anyway. Hhmmmmmn?

see what do I know. I knit while I'm watching. I'm like the Ukip Mum on Gogglebox

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 24/03/2016 13:48

I've been thinking again abt Tree's hopelessness for the undercover role

just about everything he thinks is written on his face. Jed's not much better

-mind you if he TH moved in with us I have NO DOUBT I'd spend my time looking at him like my dog looks at me when I'm making a tuna sandwich without the dribble

OnlyLovers · 24/03/2016 13:58

Yes, good point about the making hay, Muddha. I wouldn't put anything past Roper and imagine he has a finger in all the possible pies.

I think I'd gaze at Tom Hiddleston dribble and all, personally... Grin

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 24/03/2016 14:28

nonono I meant maybe it was the GOODIES what dunnit

Shock

Angela was in church after Apostol quicker than a rat up a drainpipe

OnlyLovers · 24/03/2016 15:02

Ah, I see, sorry. Yes, interesting thought.

GypsyFl0ss · 24/03/2016 15:23

Oohh good point Muddha.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 24/03/2016 16:39

Well. I won't put it past the "goodies" to do that. But I don't think Burr did. Doesn't seem like her. But who knows? MIx (x=5, 6 or whatever or MI13 in one Evelyn Waugh book) works in mysterious ways.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 24/03/2016 18:05

no I don't reckon Burr arranged it, or knew about it beforehand

but possibly someone close to her?

saggyboobs1 · 24/03/2016 20:38

Any suggestions of what to watch when this is finished? I'm limited to BBC...

Gruach · 24/03/2016 20:42

Line of Duty s3 starts tonight!

But all the real horror is happening on R4 at 7.02 pm.

GypsyFl0ss · 24/03/2016 21:16

Got that recording Gruach. Am in bed speed reading the Night Manager!

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 24/03/2016 21:33

ooohhh I listened to that by mistake

PAT

wtff

saggyboobs1 · 24/03/2016 21:34

Gruach I've given up on it - I quite like TA for light entertainment, I'm not really looking for gritty reality whie I'm loading the dishwsher....

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 24/03/2016 21:37

exactly that boobs

ivykaty44 · 24/03/2016 22:06

Not read any of his books - any recommendations?

ivykaty44 · 24/03/2016 22:12

The book was written in 1994, so iPhone finder didn't exist...?

Davros · 24/03/2016 22:20

I'm avoiding TA thread as I only listen to the film and the thread tempts me to read ahead. Gripping.
Sorry to hijack

AdventuresOfADentist · 24/03/2016 22:41

I don't know if anyone went on the "what actually happens in schools these days" thread, but posters were discussing their school days in response and sometimes job experiences too. And then this exchange happened Grin

The Night Manager - Anyone looking forward to it?
BossWitch · 24/03/2016 22:53

Grin at Corky's ghost from the school thread!

I don't think the lawyer's daughter's suicide will turn out to be linked so closely / actually be murder. I read it more as a straight suicide, showing the damage roper inflicts on those "lucky" enough to be in the rich and glamorous world which he controls. A bit like the au pair shagging storyline - more damaged lives, all linked in to Roper. All feeding into his WMITW title, that he doesn't just harm those on the receiving end of the weapons he sells, he harms everyone he comes into contact with.

CaveMum · 25/03/2016 08:53

BBC article on making Night Manager - contains no spoilers.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 25/03/2016 08:53

Grin at Corky's ghost.

ivy I've only read a couple of Le Carre's post-cold war books. The Smiley books are good - Smiley's People, Call for the Dead, The Honourable Schoolboy etc. The Radio 4 dramatisations are very very good too. Another one I like very much is The Little Drummer Girl.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 25/03/2016 08:56

The post-cold war ones are really a bit bleak for me. Hmm The Tailor of Panama, for example, makes you want to just hide in a dark room forever ...

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 25/03/2016 09:09

Yy Bosswitch

I watched that ep again with OH last night and thought her death was more story collateral damage ie it was there just to move the story on/demonstrate what a evil fucker twmitw is

It did look like suicide on second watch too as she appeared so deeply unhappy

But We Shall See

eeeeeeeek

(I'm going to be quite fed up when this is over. We never watch this sort of stuff but am enjoying it IMMENSELY)
